Mia dropped her gaze and fell silent. So, her Mom and Dad were only treating Thea nicely because they were guilty of losing her.
“They just want to make it up for me, you know. And it will break their hearts if I don’t let them do that. I have my own values, and I will always think that I’m a Todd instead of a Weston. I can’t get used to the lifestyle of your house.”
Mia went blushing.
Right… She had never considered her mom and dad’s feelings. It must have broken their hearts since the day when Thea went missing.
They probably just wanted to make it up for Thea. It couldn’t prove that they loved Thea more than they loved her.
“If a wealthy family adopted me, they probably wouldn’t feel so guilty. They would treat me the way they treat you. So, you don’t need to get so frustrated. I never wanted to take anything away from you,” Thea said calmly.
What she said was extremely reasonable. Her logic was perfect, and those words made Mia ashamed.
Thea had seen through everything. She would never love Drew and Fritzi as much as she loved Grace…. Even though they were really sweet people.
But what she was doing right now was basically taking care of broken hearts. She would never be able to treat them as her real parents.
Cody felt so protective over this girl after he heard what she said. How could she always be sweet and considerate when it came to other people’s feelings?
She looked like she didn’t need to be taken care of at all. But she was the girl who went missing. She was clearly the one who needed to be taken care of the most.
Cody was awed by her toughness and decency. He thought Thea was probably the most amazing person he had ever encountered. And he swore secretly that he would protect this girl from any harm from now on.
Life had treated her poorly. And she was still such an angel after what she went through.
Cody swore that he wouldn’t find a better girl than Thea Todd.
Daisy was crying secretly after hearing their conversation. The relationships between big houses were complicated. She thought Thea would be treated dearly after she finally found her family. However, what she faced was intense jealousy from her own sister.
He felt so bad for her.
Mia was extremely blushing while being speechless. What she had been thinking had been completely seen through by Thea. But she still had her pride, and she refused to admit that she felt ashamed. So she looked Thea in her eyes and argued, “Don’t act like you’re a saint! You took everyone’s role away! You stole all the resources.”
Thea painfully smiled. It seemed like Mia had started to waver. That was why she suddenly started to defend herself.
So she said gently, “This is my job, Mia. If I don’t fight for my roles, I won’t be able to have any chance. Everyone in this circle is competitive. Besides, I never did anything to harm anyone. I don’t know what you heard from people, but it’s probably not true.”
Mia still refused to soften, “Then what about Cody? You depend on him!”
“I can’t deny that Cody helped me a lot,” Thea said confidently. “But I never wasted what he can provide for me. It’s business, Mia. We both get benefits from this. He finds me great resources, and I earn money for myself and the company. It’s a fair deal.”
Mia didn’t know what to say anymore. But she still felt a bit embarrassed to give, “What about Amy then? Cody was gonna be with Amy. And you stole Cody away!”
Thea went silent. She was a bit speechless by that accusation.
“What?” Mia mocked, “Cat got your tongue?”
Thea sighed, shaking her head, “Mia…. I… It’s not like what you think. I never wanted to steal Cody away from anyone. I didn’t even know that he was with Amy until now. Believe it or not, I’ve never tried to destroy anyone’s relationship.”
“Humph, that’s what they all say,” Mia rolled her eyes. “Stop pretending! Why would you try to be with him every day if you don’t like him? Who are you trying to fool?!”
“I only treat Cody as my boss,” Thea frowned, “Even if I had any feelings for him, it’s none of your business. Besides, the person I have a crush on is actually Dylan.”
Cody was still standing outside the door when he heard Thea’s confession. He felt like someone had just poured cold water on his head. His face fell almost in a second.
Did she like Dylan? She had got to be kidding.
When the conversation ended, Daisy was sent to drive Mia back to the hotel.
The assistant was quite pissed off thinking about those things Mia did to Thea. So she didn’t say anything on their way back.
Mia was also in deep thought.
Thea Todd said she had a crush on Dylan. Was it true, or was it just another lie? Mia couldn’t confirm it. But what Summer did to Thea was quite nasty.
Mia decided to talk about this with her best friend. She couldn’t believe that Summer was capable of something as evil as this. But Summer clearly had done this for her. Mia felt like she was caught in between. And she felt lost when she needed to handle this whole thing.
When she entered Summer’s suite, however, before she could say anything, Summer suddenly started to cry.
“Mia… Look…” Summer rolled up her sleeves, and Mia saw bruises and wounds.
Mia was startled by those injuries. It looked like Summer was whipped by someone seriously a couple of hours ago.
“What happened?” Mia was so shocked that she didn’t know how to react upon seeing those bruises.
Summer was sobbing, “My Dad happens to be on a business trip in this city. I don’t know what your Dad told him on the phone. But he suddenly showed up here and whipped my ass. He said I was stupid, and he said what I did ruined his cooperation with the Weston family. He said your Dad would never work with him again.”
Mia only noticed that Summer’s face was heavily bruised too. She felt so bad for the girl.
“I don’t wanna live like this anymore,” Summer cried, “I wanna die!”
It broke Mia’s heart to see Summer this way. She instantly started to comfort her best friend, leaving everything she wanted to tell her behind.
