Thomas was freaking out while following his Mom. He went to prepare the car and came back to carry Amy. When Thomas started the car, he took out his phone, trying to call Cody to ask him to come over.
“Stop! Are you trying to call Cody?” Helena snapped.
Thomas’s hand faltered, “Why?”
“Just hang up.” Helena insisted.
Thomas could only hang up the call and threw the phone away. He couldn’t understand why Mom refused to let Cody help. Finally, the car pulled over at the hospital. Thomas carried his sister into the emergency.
The doctor immediately performed gastric lavage to get the toxic substances out. After a series of complicated procedures, Amy was finally out of danger.
The girl didn’t wake up until the afternoon.
It broke Helena’s heart to see Amy being this weak and pale, “Are you feeling any better now, sweetie?”
Amy stared at her, voice husky, “Mom… Is this hospital?”
Helena nodded.
Helena could see the light in Amy’s eyes was off. The girl was utterly disappointed by the fact. She wished she could just die.
Amy turned away and buried her face into the pillow, starting to sob.
“You’re so silly, Amy. You can’t do this to yourself. No one in this world deserves you tormenting yourself like this for him. You’re breaking my heart. You need to promise me that you will never do this again.” Helena’s voice was thick with sadness.
Amy’s eyes welled up with tears again, “Mom… I actually…”
“I know, baby,” Helena leaned forward and pecked Amy on her forehead, “I know everything. You don’t need to explain.”
Amy broke into tears, and she was howling and crying.
She regretted doing this so much. If she just died like this, it would destroy Mom, Dad, and Thomas. She felt so stupid and irresponsible.
“I… I was just getting drunk last night.” Amy sniffed, “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, sweetie. No one blamed you for anything,” Helena smiled, “I made your favorite food at home. Let’s go home soon. Dad’s also coming back tonight.”
Amy nodded as she held back her tears, “Okay.”
Amy was discharged from the hospital that afternoon. None of them ever mentioned the accident again. Amy was still heartbreaking, but she had ditched the stupid thought of killing herself.
She even mentioned to Helena that she wanted to go to the college she had always wanted to go to. She wanted to learn fashion design aboard.
Helena was so glad that Amy finally decided to move on.
Before Amy left, she went to see Candace and apologized for what she had done. Candace didn’t know that Amy had attempted to kill herself. But they had been friends for years. How could she not forgive her best friend?
She even felt sad that Amy was gonna leave this country soon.
Come to think of it, it was all Cody’s fault.
Why couldn’t that guy just be less attractive so he wouldn’t break young girls’ hearts?
On the day of Amy’s departure, Candace went to the airport to send her off. Thomas was also there. A message suddenly burped into Thomas’s phone when Amy went through the security check.
Thomas frowned and clicked it open.
It was from his little sister. “Grab the chance before it’s too late.”
Thomas stared at the message for a while before turning to look at the lovely profile of Candace.
He couldn’t help thinking about what had happened to Cody and Amy. So he mustered his courage all the way when they left the terminal. Before Candace could get in the car, Thomas suddenly took a step forward, slamming the door closed before Candace could get in.
“What the heck, Thomas?!” Candace was startled.
Thomas took in a deep breath, “Candace, there’s something I’ve wanted to tell you for a really long time.”
Candace was curious, “What do you want to tell me?”
“I’ve fallen for you since a really long time ago, Candace,” Thomas looked at the girl before him intensely. “Would you be my girlfriend?”
Candace’s mouth fell open, “What the…”
But the look on Thomas’s face was so serious that she couldn’t neglect the question.
Candace took a deep breath, “Thomas, listen, you’re a really nice guy.”
A really nice guy? Thomas’s face fell. He didn’t want to hear her answer anymore.
Thomas forced out a smile and cut Candace off, “Candace… You don’t need to say anything anymore. I know what you’re trying to say. I’m sorry for being so sudden. I bet you must be scared. Just get in the car so we can head back.”
He really didn’t want to hear the answer from Candace’s mouth. Her refusal would probably kill him.
Candace was in a daze. What the heck was this again? She hadn’t even said anything. The silence in the car was awkward as they headed home.
When they finally reached Candace’s house, Candace was so pissed off that she couldn’t hold it back anymore, “Thomas, what the heck is wrong with you? Why couldn’t you just listen to other people when they attempt to talk?”
Thomas looked at Candace, his mouth falling open, “Wha-what?”
“You asked me if I wanted to be your girlfriend, but you didn’t even need my answer. Why did you even bother to ask if you knew the answer already?” Candace looked angry.
Thomas blinked, “I thought you were gonna say no. What were you trying to say anyway?”
“I wanted to say that you’re a nice guy, and I’ve already noticed that you’ve been treating me differently… I… I didn’t expect you to actually have a crush on me, okay? I don’t have that many special feelings for other guys. You are… You are sorta special to me as well… So…” Candace was furiously red, “So yes, I would like to be your girlfriend.”
Thomas’s mouth fell open. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard as he leaned forward, grabbing Candace’s shoulders, “What did you just say, Candace? Could you say that again?” Thomas’s eyes lit up at Candace’s words.
Candace found it adorable, but she still looked away, pretending to be mad, “But now I’ve changed my answer because you’re arrogant and stupid! I won’t be your girlfriend instantly… But I will consider it.”
The next minute, Candace was squeezed into a tight hug. Thomas’s voice was shaking as he whispered excitedly. “You have no idea how much this means to me… God… I thought I was gonna be in hell for the rest of my life. Thanks for saving my life, Candace.”
“Thomas! You massive idiot! I said I’d consider it!! I haven’t said yes yet!”
“I love you so much, Candace Bradley!”
“Ow! You’re hurting me! Let me go, you massive troll!”
