Cody was unnervingly silent in the car on the way back.
“Cody, we’ve arrived.” Thea poked Cody a bit as she found him falling asleep already.
Cody faltered and then looked up, “Okay. Could you please get me down first?”
Cristelle could sense Cody was a bit down after coming from the hospital. She tried to cheer him up by cooking his favorite dishes.
Thea helped Cristelle in the kitchen.
The meal came out amazing.
Candace couldn’t stop eating, exclaiming how delicious those dishes were.
Cristelle couldn’t help but smile, “Most of them are Thea’s cooked. I was just helping her.”
Thea instantly blushed, barely touching the lamb on her plate.
“It’s okay, Thea,” Cody grabbed her one hand under the table and squeezed it gently, “You can have some. Your diet is successful. Now, you can recover your appetite. Controlling is important. But you can’t eat chicken breast for the rest of your life. You know what I mean?”
Thea nodded a fraction and took her fork.
Candace noticed their little interaction and narrowed her eyes at them. What the heck was Cody Bradley doing?
Was he falling for this woman? Candace never wanted to interfere with Cody’s personal life, and Thea was also an amazing person.
But didn’t Cody realize this woman was too old for him?
Cristelle and Linford sat for a while after the meal. When Cody said he wanted to take a nap, the couple and Candace finally decided to leave.
Thea came downstairs to clean the surroundings with Zoey after sending Cody to his room.
Zoey suddenly uttered, “We’re lucky that we had you around, Thea. Or things would have been worse.”
Thea was wiping the table, laughing, “There was a roomful of doctors there. Cody would have been fine either way.”
Zoey shook her head, “But none of those people acted as fast as you. Besides, you’re different. Cody likes you.”
Hearing Zoey’s words, Thea blushed as her hand faltered, “Cody likes everyone in the house. He just seldom shows it.”
“No, honey. I can totally tell he treated you differently from us,” Zoey insisted as she rinsed her rag in the sink.
How different was she from him? Thea found it was a stupid question to ask.
She shook her head again, “Working in this place with you guys is lovely, Zoey. But I’m afraid I would have to go after the contract ends, Zoey.”
There were only a couple of months left.
Zoey sighed, “I know… I wish we could find a nurse for Cody as good as you.”
Knowing the chance was small, Zoey felt sad.

Cody tried to find a file this morning, but he couldn’t find it. He asked Zoey to help him, but she also failed to find it. Thea was the only one who knew where it was, but she could not find it.
“Where’s Thea?” Cody frowned as he asked.
“She’s at the door, trying to prevent the intern from coming to harass you,” Zoey explained.
“Intern? Which intern?” Cody frowned.
“That intern who almost hit you with your wheelchair in the hospital yesterday.”
Cody frowned and decided to take a look.
Cody heard a girl sobbing from a distance, “Ma’am, please. I really need the job, okay? I didn’t mean to do that… It was an accident. Please, I really need to see Mr. Bradley personally.”
Thea frowned as she looked at the girl before her. The girl’s face was streaked with tears, and her mascara was a mess.
“Mr. Bradley is a forgiving person. But your new assignment is your thing. It has nothing to do with him. Why don’t you find your supervisor and tell him that you don’t want to be assigned to another city?”
The intern hurried to say, “But… Mr. Bradley can change everything with one word. If he had called my supervisor, I wouldn’t have had to go to another city. I was born in this city, Ma’am. I graduated here as well. My mom raised me as a single mother. I can’t leave her in this place alone. Please??… Just let me see Mr. Bradley. My supervisor must have been annoyed that I almost hurt him that day. He wouldn’t be so mad after I asked Mr. Bradley to talk to him.”
Thea was beyond annoyed after hearing her reason, “First, girl, you need to understand that Mr. Bradley wasn’t the hospital owner. How can Mr. Bradley interfere with the decision for the personnel in your hospital with just one call? Secondly, do you think Mr. Bradley can abuse his influence by interfering with the management decision? I don’t think it’s a decent way to handle things. The biggest chance is that Mr. Bradley would tell his bodyguards to kick you out after hearing your request. He’s a kind person. But that doesn’t mean you can use his weakness. Thirdly, you said you don’t want to leave the city. You’re a doctor, and you swore to the Hippocratic Oath. If patients in your new workplace need you, you can’t just turn your back on them. You didn’t like this city at all. You simply like the benefits it offers you. Besides, Mr. Bradley would have spent the rest of his life in that wheelchair if I didn’t manage to save him. It was a serious mistake. Cody has been kind enough to announce that he didn’t get hurt and that no one should be punished. That was the best he could do. Your assignment is your supervisor’s issue. Not ours.”
“But Mr. Bradley didn’t even get any injuries! I never hurt him!” The intern cried.
“You still don’t get it, do you?” Thea frowned, her face falling. “This is the last time I’m warning you. Don’t use this as an excuse to piggyback on Mr. Bradley’s power. He doesn’t owe you anything, and as a grown-ass woman, you need to own up to your mistake!” With that, Thea just slammed the door in that intern’s face, looking sassy and tough.
Cody was smiling up at Zoey at the other side of the foyer, “She’s pretty great, isn’t she?”
Zoey smiled back at Cody and nodded. The things Thea just said were immaculate. It just made Zoey a bit sad when she remembered that Thea’s contract was gonna end soon.
