Meanwhile, at the White mansion, Yuri and Marcos panicked at Betty’s sudden disappearance.
“We’ve searched everywhere, but none of them saw Betty in school,” Yuri sobbed as she buried her face in Marco’s shoulder, “Where did she go?”
“Did you call Lana yet?” Marcos asked anxiously.
“I did! But she didn’t pick it up,” Yuri was devastated. “This is not good. I need to visit Lana right now,” Marcos said as he fetched his coat.
Yuri was scared, “What if Granny asks later?”
Marcos took out a long breath, “You go explain this to her. And be very careful with the words you choose. I need to see Lana immediately. I’ll be back soon.”
Yuri nodded with tears in her eyes.
Marcos drove to Miles and Lana’s house directly.
However, he was stopped by one of Miles’s guards by the gate.
“I need to see my sister!” Macros tried to get in, but the guards were incredibly strong, “Sorry, Sir. No one can enter without Mr. Johnson’s permission.”
“Would you please tell Lana to come out then? I am her brother,” Macros tried to suppress his anger. His instinct told him this whole thing definitely had something to do with Miles Johnson.
When the housekeeper knocked on Lana’s door, she was still having a nap. She hurried downstairs instantly as the housekeeper told her that her brother was waiting by the door.
Marcos looked devastated as he saw Lana. Lana approached him and asked, “What’s wrong? What happened?”
“We can’t find Betty now,” Marcos answered, “Did you bring her over today?”
“No!” Lana’s eyes widened, “What happened exactly? How can you not find your daughter?”
Marcos let out a long breath, his forehead covered in a cold sweat, “We didn’t see her after school. She hasn’t come back yet. Yuri and I have searched everywhere, but we still couldn’t find her.”
“Did you tell Granny about this?” Lana got nervous.
“I haven’t. But I’m afraid that she will find out very soon. So where did Betty go?” Macros looked like he was going crazy.
“It’s okay, Marcos. You need to calm down. I’ll help you find the girl. Let’s go, quick,” Lana pulled Marcos’ arm and was going to leave the yard. But the housekeeper stopped her, “Ma’am, you can’t leave without your husband’s permission.”
“Get. The. fuck. Out. Of. My. Way!” Lana snarled.
The housekeeper flinched.
And then, Lana just took her brother and left the mansion. She’d been calling everyone she knew in this city who could help to find Betty.
She failed to pick up Yuri’s calls several times as she tried to call other people. When she finally picked up. Yuri sounded like she was gonna cry, “Lana, You need to come back right now. Granny had learned the news.”
Marcos went frozen as he heard that on the speaker.
“Okay… We’re on our way,” Lana hung up the call. She exchanged a look with her brother. They both looked nervous. The car arrived at the White mansion soon. They heard the clash of porcelains hitting the floor before they could enter the door.
Mrs. White’s harsh gaze was directed toward Marcos as he and his sister stepped in.
“You have the gall to call yourself Betty’s father!” The old woman hissed, “You can’t even protect your daughter! Why didn’t you tell me about her disappearance in the first place? Why didn’t you call the police yet? Do you still care about your daughter?!”
Marcos explained, “Granny, those journalists would write nonsense about our house again if called the police. Besides… I thought Betty was playing somewhere and we would find her soon. I didn’t expect her to…”
“STUPID!” Mrs. White hissed, “Playing somewhere? Betty is a good kid, and she always comes back on time! The little girl is unfortunate to have a stupid father like you!”
Mrs. White’s finger was trembling as she pointed at her grandson.
Rachel hurried to say, “Ma’am, please calm down. Your heart can’t take this. I’ve called the police. They’ve started to act instantly.”
Mrs. White slumped into her chair, “I’m afraid it’s already too late. The kidnapper will probably call very soon. Whatever they ask, just give it to them.”
“Kidnappers? Granny, are you saying that Betty has been kidnapped?” Yuri was so scared that she started to sob again.
Lana’s phone started to buzz at the moment. She picked up the call instantly, and it was Miles.
Lana sounded pretty pissed off, “What took you so long to call back?”
“Meetings,” Miles answered half-mindedly, “I’m gonna hang up if you only want to yell at me.”
Lana clenched her teeth and swallowed a couple of insults. She couldn’t afford to piss him off right now. She still needed his help.
“Betty is gone. Someone kidnapped her. I need your help,” Lana asked.
“Where did people last see her?” Miles asked.
“School!” Lana answered, “She’s in the same school as Linford’s twins. We sent her to school, but we couldn’t find her when we went to pick her up. I really need your help, Miles.”
Miles sounded a bit hesitant, but he soon spoke up again, “Okay. I’ll try to find the girl. You don’t need to get too worried. I will do everything I can to find her. But I don’t think the kidnapper would be glad if you called the police. It will probably piss them off.”
Lana sighed, “But Granny has called the police.”
“I see…” Miles’s voice sounded a bit cold, “I’ll do whatever I can.”
After hanging up the phone, Miles took out another private phone and called another number, “Go send your men to check out Linford’s place to see if the twins are still with him.”
A call came in quite soon. The man on the other side of the line sounded a bit panicked, “M-Mr. Johnson. The twins are still with Linford Bradley as of this moment. I… I think we just kidnapped the wrong kid. What should we do?”
Miles’s man was lucky that he couldn’t see his boss’s face because Miles looked like he wanted to kill someone.
“Should… Should we send her back?” The man asked carefully.
“No, keep her,” Miles said calmly, “Just try not to kill her.”
