“I would have wanted them to be together if it were before. But things are different now. Claire’s safety means everything to me. I don’t want her to get into trouble,” Cristelle sighed.
“You got to believe your sister. She’s been through a lot, and she’s as strong as yourself. She will take care of all the problems. You don’t need to worry yourself with her issues.”
Cristelle nodded and buried her face into Linford’s chest.

Meanwhile, in the White House, Mrs. White was furious, “How many things are you still hiding away from me, Lana?”
Lana didn’t seem to care, “Do you think it still matters, Granny? We’ve got no choice left anymore. They will treat us as their enemy.”
Mrs. White was so frustrated that her whole body was trembling, “Did you still consider me as your grandmother?!”
Lana didn’t have many expressions on her face, “You know you mean the world to me, Grandma. I just didn’t expect you to be treated so unfairly by them all the time until today.”
Mrs. White faltered, sounding incredulous, “What are you talking about?”
Lana’s tone was cold, “You don’t need to be nervous. I knew what you went through when you were young. Bradley owed us a lot, didn’t they? They must pay.”
“You’re out of your mind, Lana!” Mrs. White hissed as she remembered the hurtful memories, “Shut up and listen! You’ve chosen this road, and you need to take the consequences! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!”
“You don’t need to worry about that, Granny. I will take any consequences,” With that, she just turned around and walked upstairs.
Mrs. White was so furious that she had a headache. She couldn’t stop trembling, “Go find out. I need to know who the girl has been hanging out with, Lana, lately. Someone must be behind this!”
That thing happened a long time ago. Lana wouldn’t have known this unless someone had told her purposely.
Mrs. White’s assistant nodded and turned around.
However, before the assistant could walk out of the room, Mrs. White suddenly stopped her, “Wait! Forget about it. The girl knew the truth anyway. Finding out the reason was meaningless. Right now, we should get ourselves ready, so we will be ready for the upcoming war.”
The assistant nodded, “Of course, Ma’am. Do you want me to get a cup of tea for you?”
Mrs. White suddenly felt extremely tired.
She shook her head, “It’s okay. I’d like to spend some time alone.” The assistant nodded and walked out, closing the door gently behind her back.
Mrs. White remembered the old days when she sat on her chair. She remembered when she was still a young girl. She had met that guy during the party her father had held years ago. She remembered how her heart had flipped the moment their eyes met.
She had been the most desirable young lady back then. Countless had been following her around like puppies. But that man had turned her down without any hesitation. He had said that he quit because she deserved a better man.
She knew that it was just an excuse.
She was Angelica Johnson. No one had ever turned her down. To get back at that man, she had deliberately married that man’s best friend.
However, she had never expected her husband to pass away so soon. She thus had thrown away her youth for the hatred and love she felt for that man.
The light was dim, and Mrs. White’s eyes welled with tears.
Some memories were painful to touch. She had gotten tired of endless wars and battles. Her family was one of the city’s wealthiest houses, and she had nothing to prove.
Lana had done everything to get back at Linford. But she had also thrown the wealth and prosperity of her family away.
This girl shared too many similarities with her, reminding her of her sad youthful days.
It was not good at all.

A couple of weeks had passed.
In Linford’s mansion, everyone sat at the dinner table. Linford just recovered. He stood up from his chair and poured Cristelle some wine.
Claire felt happy for her sister, “I wish you two would always be like this.”
Linford smiled, “Of course, we will always be like this.”
Frank smiled.
Candace couldn’t understand what they were talking about. She only focused on her food. Cody rolled his eyes. These adults were silly. They were so blindly positive.
Alfred walked into the dining hall at the moment, giving Linford an invitation letter, “Sir, this is from the White family. I don’t know how to deal with this, so I brought it to you.”
Linford took the letter and looked at the content, “This is a great thing. Of course, I’ll go.”
Cristelle was curious, “What is it about?”
Linford gave the letter to her, “Lana’s gonna get married. She’s gonna marry a Johnson guy.”
Lana? Getting married?
She had still been bitter a month ago, but she was getting married so soon. Claire turned around to check out the letter.
“Which Johnson guy?” Claire asked.
Before Linford could say anything, Frank already put down his fork and knife to explain, “I believe his name is Miles, the CEO of their family company. He’s quite a powerful man.”
“I thought they were related. How could they… bond into sacramental marriage? Cristelle was curious.
“Some people said Miles was adopted. He’s not a real Johnson by blood.” Frank explained.
“He’s adopted?” Cristelle was suspicious. “But if he was just an adopted son, why would those people give the company to him?”
Frank sighed, “In fact, Mr. Johnson. Miles’s foster father has at least two mistresses. His wife’s kids died in the ocean. His mistresses gave him four children. But none of them are legal. His wife didn’t want bastard children to get the money, so she just adopted a boy from a branch of the family. Miles is actually a very smart businessman. He’s almost invincible. He has never failed before.”
If this Miles was also a Johnson, and Mr. Johnson’s wife had lost her children during an accident. It was not weird that Miles became the leader of the company.
Cody shook his head. These men… They were so untrustworthy.
They already had their wives, but they still wanted to mess around with their mistresses. It was absolutely disgusting.
