What Claire blurted out actually made sense.
Cody knew those people would do whatever they wanted to do without caring about his and Candace’s feelings.
They would have the baby and the baby’s Mom anyway.
“You must miss your Mom very much. But you have to calm yourself down and think it through. The opportunity is waiting for you in the future. What is good if you starve yourself to death? Sometimes, you just need to learn to endure. Once this stage of life is over, you will feel so much better, and you will eventually get on your feet.”
Candace looked at Claire blankly. She actually couldn’t understand what this beautiful young woman was talking about.
Cody, however, got Claire’s meaning immediately, “Aunt Selena, why did you decide to go to Africa? Why didn’t you stay here?”
Claire blinked. She still didn’t know that the boy had already guessed her real identity. So she smiled warmly, “Staying here is quite good. But I can help more people if I go to Africa.”
Cody wanted to ask her why she didn’t stay with their Mom. His Mom missed her so much. But he knew it would probably freak his aunt out if he asked more questions.
“Listen, Cody. Don’t do this to yourself anymore. Your Mom won’t like to see you both get harmed. You need to take care of yourself so you will get more energy and achieve what you want to do, okay?” Claire tried to persuade the boy.
“Selena,” Cody cleared his throat, “Are you still gonna leave a couple of days later?”
The smile on Claire’s face disappeared, “Well… It actually depends on my boss.” She didn’t want to go, but she had to.
“Can I have your number then?” Cody took out his phone.
Claire nodded, smiling again, “Of course.”
They left their numbers to each other.
“Please tell me if you decided to change your number one day.” Cody said seriously.
“I will,” Claire promised. She started to like this nephew of hers even more.
Candace was surprised to see that Cody actually gave Selena his number. A lot of girls in school asked for Cody’s number but he turned them down. Why would he give this woman his number?
This Selena must be a great person then.
“Do you guys want to eat now?” Claire asked the babies carefully.
“Okay,” Cody nodded.
Claire let out a breath before standing up from the couch.
After Claire walked out of the room, Candace asked carefully. “Cody, why did you give her your number? Is it because she’s a great person?”
Cody nodded, “She will never harm us.”
“I see.”
Candace thus agreed that Selena must be a good person.
Linford was surprised that Claire persuaded the babies so soon. He went to the kitchen and got some food for the babies. He sent Jack to get some food for Franco as well.
Franco didn’t have any appetite. After hearing that the babies ate, he finally managed to eat a little.
“Enzo has left the house. Linford cooked the meal for you. He still loves you, sir,” Jack said carefully, “Do you want to reconsider the whole thing?”
Pop shook his head.
Something was just not allowed to be reconsidered.
Mr. Weston had felt pretty heavy after coming back from the hospital. He knew what kind of person Linford was too well. But the result of the test was unfolded in his face. None of them could deny that Lana was pregnant with Linford’s baby.
It was quite uncomfortable.
He knew Linford marrying Cristelle would put the whole family at risk. But he also quite liked Cristelle as a person. Mr. Weston felt quite conflicted.
He thus decided to talk to Cristelle a bit.
He knew he couldn’t delay the talk anymore.
“Linford incited Frank to do the test. But the result is still the same. Lana’s baby does have Linford’s DNA,” Mr. Weston cleared his throat, feeling bad about delivering the news.
Cristelle’s eyes widened shortly, but she soon managed to compose herself, “Is that true?”
Mr. Weston nodded, “It is. Her belly will start to swell in a couple of months.”
Which meant Linford needed to marry that woman a few months from now.
Cristelle understood what the old man was trying to say. However, she felt incredibly anxious, “I…I really don’t want anything from him. I just want to take the babies and leave this city.”
She knew the only person she could trust was Linford. Now that he decided to abandon her, she’d better suit their wish and choose to leave herself immediately. She didn’t want to put herself or the babies in danger.
Mr. Weston sighed and shook his head, “Think about it, Cristelle. Before you meant Linford, you and the babies had already been harassed and bullied. Just imagine what those people will do after they know that you’re no longer under his protection. They will eat you and the babies alive. Besides, the White family will also have their eyes on you if you take the babies away. They definitely don’t want other kids to impede their baby from becoming the sole successor of the Bradley wealth.”
Cristelle knew this fact very well. She had thought about all these matters already. But she just couldn’t bear leaving her babies behind as a mother.
“I… I will protect them.” Cristelle choked on her tears, “I… We will never come back, and we won’t threaten anyone. I promise. I only want my babies.”
“Cristelle, you must know that people from big houses don’t take any oral promises.” Mr. Weston said sadly, “They’d rather have you and the babies die. It’s the most secure way to get what they want.”
“But I can’t live without them.” Cristelle sobbed, “I really can’t… I must take them with me. Or I won’t go anywhere.”
Mr. Weston fell silent. He really didn’t want to hurt Cristelle.
Lana happened to visit at this moment. She just walked into the apartment with one hand covering her slightly swollen belly, her voice gentle and polite, “Mr. Weston, can I talk to Cristelle? I’m here for her today. It will be kind if you allow us a couple of minutes.”
“How did you find this place?” Mr. Weston was alert.
“I guessed. If Pop was to hide Cristelle, he’s got to give her to someone he trusts, right?” Lana replied calmly.
She had always been a smart woman.
