Cristelle suddenly realized what was happening, “Did Darwin send you? Did he lock me up because he didn’t want me to marry Linford?”
Bernard just got the message from Darwin. He slipped his phone into his pocket and let out a cold smile, “So you’re not entirely stupid, huh? Who do you think you are? You will never be good enough for Linford.”
She knew these people despised her.
But why was everything happening so suddenly? Did those people know what happened to her Dad?
“You can lock me up as you want. But Linford will come to find it eventually. My babies need me,” Cristelle was pretty calm. She trusted Linford. Linford always kept his promise, and he would never abandon her.
“I wouldn’t be that hopeful if I were you. Locking you up in this place is Franco’s idea.
Linford always obeys the old Bradley’s orders. Do you really think you’re more important than old Bradley in Linford’s mind? That’s so pathetic,” Bernard scoffed.
Pop did this?
Was he also afraid of her Dad’s crime?
“Besides, Linford has more than the twins,” Bernard huffed, “You think you could become Mrs. Bradley by popping out twins for him? It would never happen.”
Cristelle blinked, “What do you mean? What do you mean by ‘more than the twins’?”
“Well, to be honest with you, Miss White is pregnant with Linford’s baby. She will replace you and become Cody and Candace’s stepmother. She will also give birth to another child for the family. Cristelle, if you’re smart, you should leave the babies and walk away.”
With that, Bernard just turned around and walked away.
Lana’s pregnant with Linford’s child?
How was it possible?
It was definitely impossible! Linford only treated her as a friend. Besides, Cristelle had also been there when Linford turned Lana down last time. He would never sleep with her.
It must be a lie…
Darwin must have made this up to set her apart from Linford! She would never fall for it.
Cristelle didn’t believe it, and she knew she must run. But the apartment was heavily guarded, and the building was quite high. Those people had taken away her wallet and phone. She couldn’t even contact anyone.
She didn’t even know what was happening right now outside. She wondered if Cody and Candace were alright.
But she knew she couldn’t just wait in this place.
Cristelle thought for a brief second and went to the bedroom. She grabbed the blanket and went to the kitchen, igniting it on the gas. The fire alarm of the building started to scream.
All the residents panicked and ran out of their apartments. Someone unlocked the door and brought Cristelle out of the building. Cristelle coughed all the time violently. She couldn’t even breathe as those people grabbed her arm and took her out.
She wondered if Linford was around this place and trying to look for her. She looked around and tried to seek a chance to escape. But one of those men knocked her out and took her away before she could perform her plan.
Meanwhile, Darwin received Bernard’s report about how Cristelle started the farce and tried to run. He clenched his teeth.
Damn this woman! She was so cunning!
“Grandpa, what’s wrong?” Candace just had her dinner. She was curious as she saw her grandpa’s serious face.
Darwin put on a smile instantly, “Nothing. Did you enjoy the dinner?”
Candace nodded, “Yep. Gonna watch cartoons with Cody.”
Cody couldn’t focus on watching cartoons. He left the playroom and went to look for Linford soon.
Linford was speaking to someone on the phone, “Try to trace them. I’ll be there soon.”
“Dad, you’re gonna leave this late?” Cody stood before Linford.
Linford felt bittersweet every time the boy called him Dad. He crouched down before the boy, “There’s something really important I need to deal with now.”
Cody didn’t want to pretend anymore, “Something happened to Mom, right? Where’s she right now? Can I go with you?”
“Sorry, Cody. But I can’t bring you with me this time,” Linford smiled apologetically.
Cody’s face fell, “Why?”
“Because I have a more important mission left for you to do,” Linford grabbed the boy’s shoulders and looked into his eyes seriously, “I want you to follow your grandpa around so he will never be able to leave this house. Can you do this?”
Cody thought for a while, knowing this must be a part of the plan to save his Mom. So he clicked his heels and saluted, “Yes, sir!”
“Good lad,” Linford ruffled his hair and smiled before standing up.
Cody didn’t waste any time. He went to find Darwin instantly; just as his Dad said, Darwin looked like he was gonna leave the house soon.
“Grandpa! Grandpa!” Cody giggled as he ran over, hugging Darwin’s leg. “Can I sleep in your room tonight? So you can tell me all those stories in the military!”
Darwin was about to leave the house. He didn’t expect Cody to find him at this moment.
“Well… Can we postpone this plan, goodfella? Grandpa needs to leave the house for a short while,” Darwin explained.
Cody shook his head, whining like a real five-year-old, “No! Grandpa, I want to sleep in your room. I don’t want to sleep with Dad.”
Darwin knew the boy had never been on good terms with his Dad. He knew he must deal with Cristelle right now, but he also didn’t want to give up on bonding with Cody. He stood there, thinking for a while and finally deciding to delay his plan of going out, “Cool. Grandpa will sleep with you tonight and tell you a lot of military stories.”
“Yes!” Cody jumped and punched the air. And then, he pulled Darwin and left the parlor.
“Who will take care of Candace tonight?” Darwin asked.
“Lily will take care of her. You don’t need to worry about her, Grandpa. Do you want to play chess?”
Darwin looked around, “Where’s your dad?”
“Dad went upstairs again. He had something to tell Pop. I wonder what they’re talking about. Do you know what they’re talking about right now, Grandpa?” Cody looked up innocently.
Darwin looked away, “I’m also wondering, actually. Let’s take a bath before going to bed.”
Darwin had a plan. He wanted to make the boy fall asleep as fast as possible. So he could leave the house without raising any suspicion. He didn’t know the boy had made up his mind to stall him.
