Chapter 272: Why Should I Tell You?

“Fix their relationship? That’s unnecessary. If Cody gets close to his dad, he won’t have much time to play with me. Linford’s too arrogant. He needs someone to teach him a lesson. Cody is a perfect choice,” Franco rolled his eyes, “Jack, I need you to find Enzo right now. Tell him that I need to talk to him, and he must come back immediately.”
Jack seemed hesitant, “But sir… Enzo must be pretty busy recently.”
Pop snapped, “Tell him that I need to see him. If he refuses to come back this time, he doesn’t need to return for the rest of his life.”
“Of course,” Jack sighed and informed Enzo, knowing Franco must miss Enzo. This threat was just an excuse to see his oldest grandson.
“Jack… Jack! What happened to Pop?” Candace approached Jack on the stairs, “I heard things crashing.”
“It was just an accident, sweetie. Why don’t you go take a look at Pop? So will he feel better?” Jack urged Candace, smiling.
“Okay.” Candace nodded.

The door of Linford’s private room was pushed open at dawn. Linford’s eyes snapped open as a slim figure sneaked in. But soon, he closed his eyes again disappointedly after figuring out who the visitor was.
Lana approached Linford’s bed quietly, thinking Linford was still sleeping. She looked at Linford’s handsome features under the dim light.
Their faces were only inches away.
This man was the most powerful man in this city, and he was also her first crush. She loved him so much, but she had never owned him for a second in her life.
But now, they were so close, and no one was here to interrupt them. Even that annoying woman was not here.
Lana swallowed and dipped her head lower. Before their lips could touch, however, Linford suddenly turned away.
Lana’s face went pale. Her forehead was instantly covered in a cold sweat, knowing Linford must have woken up and seen everything she did.
Lana panicked. Now Linford finally found out her secret.
Trying to calm down, Lana turned on the lights and pretended to pull up the blanket for Linford.
Linford only opened his eyes at this moment, acting like he didn’t know what she had just done a couple of minutes ago, “Why are you here?”
Lana pointed at the food box on the table, “I brought you something to eat. Why didn’t you tell me about your plan, Linford? It’s so dangerous.”
Linford arched an eyebrow, “Why should I tell you?”
“I… I probably could help you.” Lana opened the food box and revealed the breakfast she had made for Linford, “Here, have some. These are your favorites. I bet you must be hungry.”
Linford cast a look at the box and shook his head, “Thanks. But I’m not that hungry. By the way, how did you know that I got injured?”
He had made sure no one would leak the information.
Lana faltered, “Would you not be mad at me, Linford? I came here only because I care about you.”
“I don’t need that,” Linford turned her down, “Go back to the company if you don’t have anything better to do. I didn’t hire you to do this.”
“But it’s just early in the morning.” Lana refused to go, “The company hasn’t begun yet. What do you want to eat? I’ll get whatever you want.”
“I don’t want anything from you, Lana. If this is too early to go to the company, then you probably should go home. I don’t need you here,” Linford was pretty repulsed by what she had done a couple of minutes ago. However, he didn’t mind being rude anymore.
Lana was both embarrassed and angry, “Can you stop saying that? We’re friends. I’m just worried about you.”
Linford was so annoyed. However, before he could say anything, his bathroom door was pushed open. Cody walked out of the bathroom as if he hadn’t heard anything from inside, “Lana? Why are you here so early?”
He went to the bathroom to pee a couple of minutes ago. Lana got into the ward at that time, and he had heard everything inside the bathroom.
He didn’t come out because he wanted to know how it would unfold.
“I… I’m just here to take a look,” Lana stuttered, “I heard you were shocked yesterday. Are… Are you feeling any better?”
Cody shook his head, “I’m perfectly fine, Lana. By the way, you look beautiful today.”
Why did she have to put so much makeup on if she just wanted to “take a look”? It was not hard to tell who she was trying to please.
It was quite gross, actually. If this woman could be less shady, she could have probably won some respect from Cody. Cody disliked shady persons the most.
Lana didn’t know what Cody was hinting at. She touched her face blankly, “Re-really?”
“Yep.” Cody smiled.
Lana went a bit awkward. Cody approached her and sniffed, “What did you bring, Lana? It smells amazing. I’m hungry now.”
“Oh… Just some breakfast I made at home.” Lana presented the box of food, “Do you wanna have some, Cody?”
“Why not?” Cody grinned, “Thank you, Lana.”
“You’re welcome.” Lana forced out an awkward smile. She was trying to show how much she cared about Linford and Cristelle Friesley’s son just had to be here.
This was so freaking awkward.
“Lana, you’re so nice to Dad. You came this early to send him food,” Lana laughed. But what he said brought Lana to sweat, “Your dad is like a brother to me, and you’re basically my nephew. Of course, I will take care of you two as best as I can.”
“Really? Cody smiled coldly, “Lana, I suddenly have a craving for burgers and fries. Could you go get some for me?”
Lana’s eyes opened widely, “But it’s still early in the morning. Are you sure you want to…”
Cody nodded, “You have no idea how much I want that! I wanted burgers last night, but the doctor said it was not helpful for dad’s recovery. We would be grateful for the rest of our lives if you sneak out and get us some burgers.”
Lana looked at Linford. Linford also nodded, “I also want that.”
Lana started to beam, “Of course. No problem. I will drive to the nearest takeaway. It won’t take long.”
And then, she left the private room.
