Cristelle was about to throw up. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she pulled out a file from her purse, “I’m ending the contract with the studio. No one told me you were the real boss until yesterday. Could you sign this, so we don’t have anything to do with each other anymore?”
The studio?!
Pamela suddenly remembered. Right… If Diego signed this, he wouldn’t need to see this whore anymore.
“Diego, just sign it,” Pamela urged.
Diego took the contract and took a look, signing the contract as he clenched his teeth.
From now on, they really didn’t have anything to do with each other.
Cristelle didn’t even cast an extra look at anyone in the room as she grabbed her contract and left.
Diego strained every fiber of his body not to look back. But his head couldn’t stop spinning.
Jasper would never tell Cristelle that he was the real boss of the studio. She must have found the fact somewhere else and decided to quit sooner.
Did that mean she had fallen out with Jasper? Diego didn’t know why but that fact made him happy.
“Diego, my belly hurts so much. Can you take me to the hospital right now?” Pamela whined, trying to get Diego’s attention.
Diego finally looked back, “Of course. I’m taking you there right now.”
Maria also followed, clenching her teeth.
How dare this Cristelle Friesley just come back? Wasn’t she afraid that something bad might happen to her?
Meanwhile, Cristelle hailed a taxi. She didn’t know where to go so she told the driver to drive her around the city.
She grew up in this place. She wanted to walk around and see the spots she used to go to.
The driver thought she was a tourist, enthusiastically introducing the famous spots to visit as he drove down the road.
Cristelle looked out of the window, answering the driver’s question occasionally. She was completely unaware of the black car following her taxi.
“Linford, where is your wife going?” Lana was chewing a bag of potato chips in Linford’s fancy car.
Linford frowned, “If you dare to get that on my seat, I’ll make you into a bag of chips.”
Lana rolled her eyes, focusing on her snacks again.
Cristelle sat in the backseat, watching the familiar scenes flying past her eyes. She felt she was in a dream. She hadn’t been here for 6 years. She hadn’t even brought Cody and Candace back to visit once.
Cristelle finally asked the driver to go to the city cemetery where her late mother was buried. Linford’s car followed.
When they reached a flower shop, Cristelle asked the driver to pull over and wait for her a bit. And then, she came out with a bouquet of lilies.
Lana was curious, “Why is she buying flowers? Is she gonna see someone?”
When the case of the Friesley family happened 6 years ago, Lana hadn’t been in this country. She thus didn’t know.
Linford didn’t say anything, pulling a face.
Lana looked away, “Why are you pulling a face all the time? I’m just curious. It’s not like I did anything wrong.”
Linford frowned, “You’re talking too much, Lana. I didn’t want you to come with me. You forced yourself on my jet. And now you’re asking question after question. Can you give me a break?”
“Humph!” Lana looked out of the window, sulking.
Why did he have to be so angry all the time? He hadn’t been like this before.
Cristelle got off the car, carrying the bouquet of flowers, navigating through the tombstones. This was probably the most broken cemetery in the city. Only poor people would bury their families here. Weeds covered the ground. Even the iron door was rusty.
Linford couldn’t just wait in the car. He got out of the car before he warned Lana, “Stay in the car. Don’t come over.”
Lana was about to follow. Instead, she withdrew her feet as she heard what Linford said, “It’s not like I wanted to go.”
Linford followed Cristelle, but he didn’t let her find out, standing behind her a couple of yards away.
“Mom, I’m here to see you again. I know it must be lonely staying here alone for so many years. I should at least have taken the babies here to see you,” Cristelle’s fingers slimed across the faded name on the tombstone, “The babies are five this year, and they have gone to school. Candace can finally talk now. Cody’s quite smart, too, like his father. Sometimes I feel I can’t even tell him what to do now. And the babies finally found their father too.”
They finally found their father.
Linford smiled faintly.
“Their father loves them very much. He’s a good man. I believe he can protect the babies,” Cristelle sighed, “Mom, sometimes I felt I couldn’t even make it anymore, but I still managed to finish what I needed to do. You must be up there watching over me, right?”
Linford’s hands clenched into fists, resisting the urge to walk forth and pull her in his arms.
“Mom, I know Claire’s whereabouts now. I really want to see her. You will let me see her one day, won’t you?” Cristelle crouched down and rested her head against the tombstone.
She looked so much like Candace from this angle. A smile appeared on Linford’s lips. He took a step forward.
However, before he could call Cristelle’s name, a couple of men suddenly jumped out of nowhere, dashing toward Cristelle.
Those men were there to attack Cristelle. Before Linford could take any action, Lana suddenly dashed out of the car and protected Cristelle. Those men harmed Lana very badly, but Linford managed to kick their asses and called the police.
Cristelle and Linford sent Lana to the hospital.
Bruises and scratches covered Lana’s body. She was lucky that those punks didn’t damage her bones.
Cristelle felt complicated as she looked at the young woman in bed, “Thank you.”
“Who were those people?” Linford asked.
Cristelle didn’t want to hide anything from this man, “They were there to force my sister’s whereabouts out of me. I was being stupid. I shouldn’t have come back in the first place.”
Linford narrowed his eyes, “I don’t think so. You had been away for almost 2 years. But those men just found your location so fast. It almost felt like they’d been waiting for you to show up.”
