Cristelle came over and saw a little red dress. The style was pretty new, and it suited Candace very much, “Don’t forget to call Mr. Weston later and say your thanks.”
Candace nodded.
Cody got a new suit. It also looked perfect on him.
“Mr. Weston asked you guys to go over to his place on the weekend,” Pop mentioned.
Candace shook her head, “I only have one day on the weekend. I promised Amy that I would go to her place on Saturday.”
Pop knew Amy and Thomas were Candace and Cody’s best friends. He was also happy that the babies had their own playdates.
So he nodded, smiling, “Sure. Then we can go to Mr. Weston’s place on Sunday. He promised that he would cook for us.”
Candace smiled.
Franco asked Lily to make the babies’ favorite dishes because they did a great job during the performance. Candace and Cody, however, reclined on the couch and watched the video Jack shot for them. Candace laughed as she watched the video. Cody, however, had one arm around his sister’s shoulder. He looked like he had been lost in his own thoughts, but he was still laughing along with Candace.
Cristelle returned to her room and started checking her drafts again. Even though she knew something about Jasper, she still wanted to keep her job. She would still try her best if she could make it to Paris.
The dinner started quite soon. When Franco sat down, he finally noticed that something was wrong, “Where’s Linford? Is he still in his company?”
Jack shook his head, “I don’t know, sir. I’m calling him right now.”
Jack came back soon, “Alfred said that Linford didn’t go to the company all day. I’m afraid he’s dealing with something else.”
Franco looked unhappy, “We’re celebrating Cody and Candace’s perfect performance. How could he be late? Forget about him. Let’s enjoy our meal.”
Candace looked slightly disappointed as she poked at the food on her plate. Cristelle felt complicated as she noticed how much her daughter cared about Linford. Cody, however, didn’t say a word.
Linford didn’t even come back after dinner that night.
Linford woke up groggily in the middle of a suite. He stared at the ceiling for a second before he sat up, his head dizzy. How did he end up waking up in this place?
Linford groaned as he took a look at the surroundings. Before going to sleep last night, he didn’t even take his clothes off. How drunk had he been?
And where was Lana?
When did she leave?
Forget about it.
Linford tidied himself up immediately before switching on his phone. There were about 10 missed calls on his phone. He scrolled up and saw a familiar number. He grabbed his coat and left the suite.
Candace and Cody had just finished their breakfast when he pushed open the door. They seemed to be ready for school.
“Dad!” Candace dashed over, but she soon stopped, covering her nose, “Dad, you stink.”
Linford only realized at the moment that he was fumed with alcohol. And his hair and suit were a mess.
He smiled apologetically, “Sorry. I went to drink with a client last night. I know I’m a bit late.”
Cody rolled his eyes. And then, the boy lowered his gaze to hide the contempt in his eyes. Linford Bradley was the boss of his company. What kind of client needed him to be present over deals?
This man is full of lies.
Linford immediately noticed the boy’s reaction but didn’t explain anything.
“Take a shower,” Candace suggested.
“Will do soon,” Linford looked at Cristelle with a tinge of anticipation in his tone as he asked, “I saw your calls last night. Why did you call me? Is there a problem?”
Cristelle shook her head, puzzled.
“I called dad. You didn’t come back. I just want to make sure you ate,” Candace folded her arms before her chest, feeling a bit disappointed.
Cristelle shook her head. So Candace had taken her phone and called her dad?
“Oh.” The anticipation on Linford’s face was gone. But soon, he pulled up a smile, “So, you care about your dad, and that’s why you called? I ate last night. Just wait for a sec, okay? I’ll take a shower, and I’m taking you guys to school soon.”
“It’s okay. We’re getting late. Mom will drive us to school,” Cody urged, sounding mildly pissed off.
Linford took a look at his watch. His son was right. So he said, “Have a safe journey then. Alfred is downstairs. You can ask him to drive if you want.”
“It’s okay. Mommy can do that,” Candace waved at Linford, “Bye, Dad.” And then, the mother and the babies left.
Linford stood there, feeling lost. Getting drunk was normal, but he felt extremely guilty. He felt he should at least call.
He went upstairs and took a shower. When Cristelle came back, Linford was still at home.
“You’re not going to the company today?” Cristelle sounded a bit surprised.
Linford smiled, “It’s not the time yet.”
Linford had taken a shower and changed into fresh clothes. He looked quite handsome, giving off a college heartthrob vibe.
Cristelle cleared her throat and looked away.
It was hard to pretend not to be affected by his dominating aura. She put her purse on the table and was ready to return to her room. The space was not as big as the wide ground when they lived in Linford’s mansion. Linford took a step away so Cristelle could pass.
The air was awkward. Linford thought it was time to talk to Cristelle a bit. Before he could knock on Cristelle’s door, however, the woman suddenly grabbed a briefcase and walked out of her room.
Linford’s brow jumped, “You’re going out?”
Cristelle nodded, “I’ve been away for too long. Gotta go back to the studio for a bit. I need to handle a couple of things by myself.”
Linford didn’t like the idea, walking towards her, “Why don’t you put it aside a bit? I mean, you don’t have to push yourself so hard after all….”
Cristelle knew what he was trying to say, her soft yet unwavering voice cutting Linford’s, “It’s okay. I know how to handle this.”
