Pamela barely understood, but she still nodded, “Okay…”
Maria had made up her mind that she would take her daughter back to their hometown after this incident.
They couldn’t stay in this city anymore.
When they went back to the Barnett mansion, Diego, Mrs. Barnett, Mr. Barnett, and Mr. Lim was waiting in the living room.
“You’re back! It’s time to eat,” Mrs. Barnett didn’t act quite as friendly as the mother, and the daughter stepped inside the house, going directly to the kitchen.
Noah shot his daughter and wife a warning look, telling them silently that they should bear with that.
Maria pulled at Pamela’s arm, “Honey, you should go take a bath. Come.”
Pamela looked at Diego, not moving. But Diego didn’t even spare her a glance.
“Come on, let’s go,” Maria pulled at her daughter’s hand.
Pamela hummed and followed her Mom. After Pamela left the bathroom, the two families sat beside the long table.
Diego’s Dad, Sam, was still quite pissed off about what this daughter-in-law of his had brought the family into, pulling a face, “Now, everyone’s here. Let’s start to eat.”
Maria leaned over the table and forked Pamela’s favorite dish on her plate, “Here, Honey. This is your favorite.”
Pamela suddenly wanted to cry. Mrs. Barnett didn’t even try to be nice as she was the one who saved Pamela from jail, “Pamela, really, you’re a grown woman. It would help if you considered the consequences before you want to do anything. You shouldn’t be that stupid and let other people use you.”
It was all Pamela’s fault. Noah and Maria thus decided to tolerate what they heard from Diego’s parents.
Sam shook his head, “Stop mentioning that, Honey. Diego, the project in this city can wait. You should go back with me after this. I need your help in our hometown.”
Diego didn’t even look up as he turned his father down, “I’m sorry, Dad. But I can’t go back.”
Noah frowned, “Diego, your company is based on IT and digital products. Now that the Bradley family has decided to compete with you in the same market, you’ve already lost all your advantages. You really should listen to your Dad.”
Diego hated Pamela so much that he didn’t even bother to be respectful before her father, “Why should you care, Noah? If you don’t want to lose money, just withdraw all your investments immediately. You don’t need to tell me what to do.”
Noah had never been humiliated like that in his entire life. He threw his fork on his plate, making a loud sound, “What do you mean, boy?”
“Calm down, Noah,” Sam said dryly, “Don’t get mad with him. He’s just a young man.”
Noah’s face fell, “I know Pamela did stupid things. But we’re talking about business right now. Being stubborn is seeking self-destruction for a businessman. I hope you can reconsider it, Diego. Staying here will kill your company.”
Self-destruction?
Diego couldn’t bear being judged at the moment. His head snapped up as he glared at Noah, “I’ve made it very clear, Noah. If you don’t like my strategy, you can always withdraw your investment. No one will ever force you to stay as a shareholder.”
“What is this attitude? I’m worried about you, and you’re telling me to piss off?” Noah was genuinely worried about Diego’s business because Diego’s money decided the quality of Pamela’s life. Besides, as one of the most successful businessmen in the city, Noah always had sharp intuition. He could tell Diego that staying in this city was a dead end.
“I don’t care if I lose all my money. I don’t need your support to do my business,” Diego was so angry that he didn’t even think about the words coming out of his mouth anymore.
He only wanted to prove himself at this point.
“Good. Then I’ll do it,” Noah didn’t like how they treated his daughter. And now, Diego started to say such things. He thus decided to stop being hesitant.
“Fine!” Diego didn’t even flinch.
Mrs. Barnett was the one who went nervous, “Guys! Stop acting like this. We’re a family.”
Sam also decided to make the atmosphere less heated, “That’s right. We’re a family. Let’s stop talking about business during our meal.”
Noah was a mature businessman. He didn’t want to go bankrupt completely with the Barnett House if everything worsened. So he sighed and sat down on his chair again.
However, Diego refused to let it pass so easily, “Pamela, you should go back with your parents later. I will never go back with you. I’ll call the Finance Director later to give back all the investment Noah put in.”
Diego acted like he couldn’t wait to get rid of the Lim House.
Maria was so offended. She turned to face Noah, “Since Diego just said that, I don’t think it’s necessary for you to insist any more. He won’t even accept your money. Why do you have to be so generous? Just withdraw all your investment so we can go back to our hometown. I know that place is small. But it feels so much better living there.”
Sam’s face fell, but he didn’t say anything.
Mrs. Barnett, however, suddenly went mad, “What do you mean, Maria? Do you know how many times we tried to save your stupid daughter? Now that we got her out of jail and you want to withdraw your money. What kind of moral is this?”
“We’ve never said we’re not grateful. But your son just said that he didn’t need our money. And we’re not idiots. I think everyone in this mansion knows why Diego insists on staying, right?” Maria was always a gentlewoman, but when she needed to argue with someone, she also could be very sharp.
“Linford Bradley has been targeting our house because of your daughter, Pamela. If she didn’t provoke Cristelle Friesley again and again, they wouldn’t have treated us this way!” Mrs. Barnett tried to direct the topic from Diego’s problem to Pamela’s jealousy.
But Maria wouldn’t be fooled that easily, “Why did Pamela go to provoke Cristelle then? Don’t you know the reason, Mrs. Barnett? If Diego cared about her even in the slightest way, she wouldn’t have done those crazy things. They’d been married for five years, and they didn’t even have a baby! Don’t tell me that you don’t know the reason. But do you even care? Have you ever thought about what your son has done? How much money did we give you during the last five years?”
