“Your perspective is wrong! They promised me!” Conner hissed. He looked like he was going crazy as he grabbed his head, ruffling his own hair.
Peter sunk a needle into his neck and put some sedative into him. Conner fell back into a deep sleep.
Linford stood up from his chair as he ordered Alfred, “When he wakes up, ask him if he wants to be a witness in the court when we sue the Barnett family. I need to know when he’s sober. I still have other things to ask him. And… oh! Send people to keep an eye on the Barnett House.”
Alfred looked a bit hesitant as he said, “Pamela… Diego’s wife has been preparing to go to France these days.”
“What?” Linford’s eyebrow raised as he halted his pace.
Alfred added abruptly, “I’ve done whatever I could to stop her from leaving the country. She can’t leave if the appropriate authority declines her travel documents.”
Pamela had tried to kidnap Cody once. And now, she was moving out of the country in a hurry. She must have something to do with this incident.
“I see! Good job! Linford nodded, “Just try to get some solid evidence, okay?”

Linford went to visit his grandpa in his ward after leaving that room. Franco looked much better after taking a long rest in the hospital. Mr. Weston was also with him the whole time.
“We should thank Peter for everything he did. We couldn’t have caught that guy without him,” Franco appreciated the young man’s effort. It was the second time Peter saved Candace from any trouble. Franco suddenly trusted him after saving his great-granddaughter.
“Of course, Pop,” Linford smiled, “I’ll thank him after things are settled.”
Peter, who stood behind Linford, smiled, “I’m Candace’s teacher. I’m only fulfilling my responsibility. You don’t need to thank me, Mr. Bradley.”
“Please don’t say that, son. You did save all of us this time,” Even Mr. Weston vouched for the young man as well.
“They said the attacker has woken up? How was the interrogation going? Did he tell you the truth? I need to know who tried to harm my Candace,” Franco looked furious as he mentioned that. It looked like he wanted to tear those people into pieces.
“You don’t need to worry about that, Pop. I’ll handle it,” Linford didn’t want the old man to be involved and exhausted.
Franco would never agree to that, struggling to sit up, “No! You must tell me the truth.”
Mr. Weston pressed his hands on his old friend’s shoulders, “Are you out of your mind, Franco? Your grandson just said he would handle this problem! Can you stop being so worried? Linford is capable of handling things properly. Give him your trust.”
Pop shook his head, “You will never understand, my friend. Just try to put yourself in my shoes. If things like this happened to your great-granddaughter, can you still act so calmly?”
Mr. Weston went silent.
His grandpa’s eagerness defeated Linford, “The attacker was sent by the Barnett House.”
“The Barnett House?” Franco’s mouth fell open, “Why would they do such a horrible act?”
Franco was suspicious. Before they had Cody and Candace back, he had heard about how the Barnett House kidnapped the boy. On the news, it said they sent someone to kidnap the boy because Cristelle and Mrs. Barnett had a deep misunderstanding.
Now, they tried to harm Candace. Was it also because of their conflict with Cristelle?
Franco didn’t say anything, but he started feeling slightly unhappy with Cristelle.
Linford noticed the look in his grandpa’s eyes, and he instantly explained, “It’s because of our new product, Pop. They probably didn’t want us to take the market trends. Guess that’s why they decided to play it foul.”
“So… Is it because of the business alone?” Franco was still a bit suspicious.
“Yes,” Linford hastily answered without any hesitation.
What product did his boss talk about? Alfred didn’t remember they had any new products recently. But he dared not mention it before Franco, knowing his boss just made up a random excuse to protect Cristelle again.
“Alfred, is that true?” Franco’s eyes flew to Alfred.
“Oh, of course, sir. Mr. Bradley is telling the truth.” Alfred was on the verge of a thin line, and he had to support his boss’ lie. “The Barnett has been trying to do vile things for months. We never thought they would deal with this problem in such a crude manner.”
Franco believed Alfred’s words, continuing, “The leader of the Barnett House is too short-sighted. People like them can never make anything big. You must take this chance to crush them, Linford.”
Linford nodded in agreement.
Alfred let out a long breath as if a huge torn was taken away from his throat.

In Barnett’s House, Pamela had prepared everything before leaving the country. But for some reason, her passport was declined repeatedly.
She started to panic.
Did they find out that Conner was sent to harm Cristelle’s daughter?
Impossible! Conner loved his daughter! He should know that if he spilled the truth to them, his daughter’s life would be ruined completely. Pamela repeatedly tells this to herself to appease her nervousness.
“Mom, Diego… I… I need to go back to my Mom’s house for a while.” Pamela announced during the dinner.
Diego looked up and cast her a cold look. He acted like she was just some random person he knew. He showed that he didn’t care about her at all.
Mrs. Barnett was confused, “Why do you suddenly want to return to your parent’s house?”
Pamela tried to act normal, “I… I just miss my Mom. I haven’t even visited her that often after getting married.”
“Then go. Spend more time with your parents. I will also go visit them when I’m free,” Diego sounded quite dry as he said it. He didn’t even bother to offer to send Pamela back home.
And he even sounded a bit relieved hearing her announcement.
Was he that happy when he knew she was gonna leave? Pamela ground her teeth.
Diego’s reaction brought her more anger, but she had learned how to hide her real emotions over time. After the meal, Diego wanted to go to his study room as usual. But Pamela stopped him, “Honey, do you wanna talk?”
“I thought you’d made things clear during the meal. What else do you want to say?” Diego was quite impatient.
Pamela smiled bitterly, “Do you hate me that much? I just want to talk to you.”
