When Linford went to the 5th floor, Peter was sitting on the bench in the corridor, guarding that attacker’s ward and making sure anyone strange couldn’t get in.
“Mr. Bradley,” Peter stood up from his seat as he saw Linford.
Linford nodded, “You’ve been guarding this place?”
“Yeah, there are too many people walking around. If his boss sent someone to kill him, we wouldn’t get any clue from him anymore,” Peter smiled while explaining.
Linford looked at the young man, smiling, “You’re right. You’ve saved my daughter twice, Peter. I owe you.”
“Candace is the best student I’ve ever had. I like her. I’m her teacher. So protecting her is also my responsibility. You don’t need to thank me,” Peter pushed at his glasses, looking quite calm, “Besides, if Pop didn’t decide to visit Candace this time, I wouldn’t even be there. You should thank Pop and his friend.”
“But you still saved my daughter,” Linford patted his arm, “You’re a sharp fighter, actually. Would you mind if I leave the safety of this whole place to you?”
“Of course, I wouldn’t mind, Mr. Bradley,” Peter agreed immediately, “Working for you is my pleasure.”
Darwin arrived after Linford left the floor.
“Is that man still in a coma?” He asked Peter.
Peter nodded, “Yes.”
Darwin smiled at Peter, “You’re Peter, right? They said you saved Candace twice. I knew I picked the right guy!”
“I’m flattered,” Peter said calmly.
“Would you mind keeping this place safe? And don’t forget to inform me if anything happens,” Darwin said the same thing as Linford.
“Of course, Linford just asked me to do the same thing, actually,” Peter said quietly.
Linford had said that?
Darwin shook his head and left the place. Why was Linford always faster than him?
He left the 5th floor and went to the 15th floor again.
Clara and Tanya were arguing with those bodyguards when they guarded the door of Candace’s ward.
“We don’t hold any ill intention, gosh! We’re Candace’s grandma and auntie. We just want to make sure the girl is okay. How could you stop us from getting in?” Clara supported Tanya as she confronted the bodyguard, “Tanya almost got killed to protect the girl. Are you both blind?”
But the bodyguards still refused to let them in, “But this is Mr. Bradley’s order. Miss Bradley is taking a rest. And no one can interrupt her.”
“You guys…” Clara was so pissed off.
Her real purpose for coming here was to see that bitch. She had gone to see another man when her daughter was in danger. Linford should have kicked her out if he still had any sense in him. She just wanted to see Cristelle suffering.
Tanya held the same thought. And that was why both of them couldn’t wait to get in and see her.
“Forget about it, Clara. Candace’s seriously scared today. She’s still in shock. We can only interrupt her rest if we get in right now,” Darwin cleared his throat behind their backs.
Tanya ran toward him and rested her head on his shoulder immediately the moment she saw him, “Hubby, that was so scary. I thought I would never be able to see you.”
Clara felt a bit scandalous about the way Tanya acted, but she contained the urge to roll her eyes.
Darwin put a hand on Tanya’s tiny waist, “It’s okay, honey. Stop crying.”
Tanya nodded, but her tears were still coming down.
Darwin stroked her hair gently, “Don’t cry. Let’s go home now and leave this place to Linford. We can’t visit Candace today. She’s still scared.”
Clara hastened to react, “I know Candace’s scared, but I’ve brought so many gifts for her. They’re all her favorite snacks and toys. Should I leave these things at the door?” Clara showed as if her feelings were hurt.
“What did you bring her then? I’ll give them to her,” Suddenly, the door burst open. Lily was standing there, blocking them like a tyrant who’s ready for a war, “What are you guys yelling about this whole time? Little Miss Bradley had been crying all morning that her eyes were swollen. I tried so hard to make her fall asleep. Do you guys want to wake her up, so she will start to cry again?”
The bag in Clara’s hand fell against the floor sharply. All the toys and snacks just rolled out.
Clara’s mouth dropped open as she stared at the woman before her, “Li-Lily? How- Why are you here?”
Tanya and Darwin both went dumbfounded.
“Are you stupid, Clara? I’m here to take care of little Miss Bradley,” Lily answered furiously.
“Lily, how did you come here?” Darwin pushed Tanya away a bit. He felt uneasy when he faced his ex-wife’s assistant.
Tanya lowered her gaze. Her eyes were filled with resentment as her hands balled up into fists.
Lily looked at them coldly, “Linford asked me to take care of Candace. Mr. Bradley, you know me personally. Since I’ve made the promise to take care of the girl, I’ll try my best to keep her safe. Little Miss Bradley is sleeping. I can’t let any of you get in without Linford’s permission.”
And then, the nanny pointed at those things spilling on the floor, “These things are dirty now. You can’t give these to Candace anymore. Please take them away and throw them into the dumpster. I don’t want Candace to wake up alone. I really gotta go.”
And then, the woman just shut the door in their faces.
“Father, did you see that? A servant can even tell us what to do now!” Clara hissed. Her face was twisted with anger.
Darwin looked angry as well, but he didn’t say anything.
Tanya was disappointed, but she didn’t show it to Darwin, “Hubby, it’s time to go back.”
Darwin could tell how sad she was. So he held her in his arms again, “Okay. Let’s go home first. You need some rest now. I’ll tell the kitchen to make something you like to eat.”
Tanya nodded as they left.
Clara didn’t like the idea, but she could only follow them right now.
The atmosphere was still quite grim when they got in the car. Tanya rested her head against the window, her tears falling down silently. She had still not been admitted after being Darwin’s wife for so many years. This was so unfair.
