Mrs. Diaz arrived later. All the other people went to see Pop, but Candace and Cody insisted on staying. They wanted to be with their Mom. Linford took a look at the woman behind the window. Her body was inserted with all sorts of tubes. The mask she was wearing fogged when she breathed weakly. For the first time ever in his life, Linford felt scared.
“When can she wake up exactly?” He asked Yanni anxiously.
Yanni could only be honest, “We’ve inserted antivenom for her. But the venom in her system has not entirely gone. And her heart has been seriously damaged. We’re still trying to find the new sample. You’ve got to be strong, Linford. Remember, you still have two babies to take care of.”
Linford suddenly realized what Yanni was saying. The venom was still there, and her heart had been seriously damaged.
She probably wouldn’t be able to wake up.
THUD!
Linford suddenly sent his fist into the wall. His eyes were red and sharp. He felt his heart burning in his chest. He wished he could make Cristelle wake up right now. However, as rich and powerful as he was, he could do nothing.
“Linford, honey, don’t be like this. Cristelle will be fine,” Mrs. Diaz pulled at Linford’s arm, “Come with me, Linford. You need some food. You must take care of yourself. If your Mom saw this, it would break her heart.”
They went back to Franco’s room. Pop was finally relieved as he saw his grandson was alright. And then, Franco tried to comfort Linford, “Don’t worry, son. I’ve informed your brother. He will take the best doctor in the army here. Cristelle will be fine.”
“Have you told Frank as well? I bet he knows what to do,” Linford gradually regained his composure.
Yanni put a hand on his shoulder, “Of course, I’ve emailed Cristelle’s symptoms and our solutions all to him. He said he needed time to analyze before giving feedback.”
“Frank is the best. He’s definitely gonna work out a way. It would help if you had some soup first, Linford. Come on, Linford.”
Mrs. Diaz didn’t forget to let Linford eat. Linford took the bowl and emptied the content into his mouth. Mrs. Diaz was right. He needed to be strong right now.
“Pop, you should go back and take some rest. I’ve got this,” Linford asked the old man gently. And then, he looked around, “Where’s Alfred?”
Alfred entered the room instantly, “What do you need me to do, Sir?”
“Send Pop back. And I want you to man this place entirely. No visitors are allowed,” Linford was his usual self again, “Go.”
People only felt relaxed after seeing him regain his decisiveness and sanity.
Franco didn’t want Linford to be worried about him. So he stood up from his chair, “I’m going back now, Linford. I don’t want to distract you. You take care, okay?”
Linford nodded.
“Yanni, could you figure out where that snake came from?” Linford’s eyes were sharp with rage, “I’ve never seen snakes as venomous as that in the western suburbs. Someone must have put it there on purpose.”
“Of course. I’ve sent my men to investigate the whole thing. They just found that creature escaped from the zoo,” Yanni answered.
“It’s impossible. The zoo is quite far from our location. Besides, that thing didn’t seem to be tamed before. Keep investigating,” Linford said coldly.
“Sure. I swear my men will find the one who did this!” Yanni also clenched his teeth.
The best army doctor arrived. After checking out Cristelle, the old man shook his head sadly, “The venom has spread out. Her heart was also seriously damaged. I know you guys want her to wake up right now. But sadly, there’s really nothing I can do. I’m so sorry, fellas.”
Nothing he could do?
Cody’s eyes went red as soon as he heard what the doctor said. But he still managed not to let the tears fall off.
“Nothing you can do?” Linford bellowed.
“Mr. Bradley, she’s bitten by a coral snake, and she had moved so violently. She didn’t have much hope of waking up anyway. You know that.” The expert frowned, “My knowledge is limited. But I’m sure Doctor Watson knows what to do. He always makes miracles happen. You should find him.”
With that, the expert left the room. He had seen too many of these, and he had used to death. When he walked out of the room, however, he suddenly saw a little boy standing there, looking up at him with red eyes.
The expert thought the boy looked familiar. Before he could take a closer look, the boy just ran off.
“Cody, you took so long in the bathroom,” Mrs. Diaz and Fritzi were feeding Candace soup. They pulled the boy onto a chair as they saw him, “Sit. You need to have some soup as well.”
Fritzi noticed how sad the boy looked, so she tried to comfort him, “A really good expert just came. He can definitely make your Mom wake up.”
Candace nodded, eyes as round as saucers. Cody got even sadder after hearing that. His little fists balled up.
Two days had passed. Cristelle was still in a coma. She was getting weak.
Linford was with his two babies and sitting on the bench out of the ICU. He felt so useless.
No matter what he did, how hard he tried, he could only watch as the woman he loved was wasted away in that bed.
Candace had fallen asleep in his arms. Cody was sitting beside him, eyes widening as if he didn’t want to miss something.
Linford sighed, “Will you shut your eyes for a bit, Cody?”
Cody shook his head, “I’m not tired.”
At this moment, however, Clara, Tanya, and Darwin suddenly arrived.
Linford felt sick and tired when he saw them, “Alfred, do you need me to be fucking teach you how to do your job? I said no visitors!”
Before Alfred could explain anything, Darwin instantly said, “I’m your father! I’m not a random visitor! I heard Cristelle has been in a coma for four days. I’m just here to take a look.”
