“No!” Cristelle whipped around and walked away.
Her old phone was crushed by a truck. She had bought a new one, and now Diego had taken it away again. Cristelle only wanted to slap this dumbass.
“You disgust me, Diego.” Pissed off, she managed to say that while pacing faster.
“It’s still better than being forgotten by you, isn’t it?”
“Can you stop? I’m gonna vomit,” Cristelle walked down the street.
In an exclusive cafe, Linford was reading a book, a cup of coffee placed by its side.
His eyes darted out of the French window now and then.
Drew was having a piece of cake, scrolling down his cellphone, “Is this the place you take me for a date? I thought our first date would at least be in Paris. What are you gonna do later? I hope we’re not heading for any hotel. I’m gonna sell my ass for a piece of cheesecake.”
Linford frowned faintly, “If you don’t shut up now, Drew, I’m gonna grab your scruff and throw you out of this place.”
“Brutal,” Drew shook his head, “Fine. I’ll stick with the bro date. No homo.”
Linford felt annoyed with Drew’s joke, but he kept silent and sat across the table. His eyes scanned the shop across the street.
Weird, Cristelle’s flight had arrived. He should be seeing her walking into that store right now.
Why hadn’t she shown up yet? Where is she right now?
Linford cast a glance at his watch. She should have been here 30 minutes before.
Was she delayed on the road?
Was she even safe right now?
Suddenly, a slim figure appeared in his view. Linford’s eyes instantly lit up. But after seeing the man following Cristelle, his face fell.
“The heck? Man? I was just kidding. You look like you want to kill someone.” Drew was a bit scared upon noticing Linford’s gloomy face. He thought Linford was mad at him, but after a few seconds, he saw Linford’s eyes were looking outside the glass wall. He followed his gaze as well and saw Diego Barnett.
Diego was explaining something miserably as he followed Cristelle. But Cristelle didn’t even bother to look back once. She looked bothered.
“What is that motherfucker’s problem? Why can’t he just leave Cristelle alone?” Drew couldn’t figure out what he was seeing. Was Diego Barnett seeking his own doom? How dared he harass Cristelle in broad daylight? Didn’t he know Cristelle was Linford’s woman?
Linford turned the page irritably, acting like he didn’t care, “It’s her freedom to get any by men following her. She can do whatever she wants since we agreed not to interfere with each other’s business.”
Drew took a pause, “Yeah, of course. You’re a man with a big heart. Seeing a douche harassing your babies’ Mom shouldn’t be an issue to you. Actually, it shouldn’t be an issue for most men. Those who get offended usually have problems.” The doctor’s tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Linford shot Drew a stern look. Drew quickly shut up.
And then, he sighed and scratched the back of his head, “Fine, I’ll go check Cristelle out. You just sit here all cool and pretty and read your book. I won’t leave Cristelle alone to handle that trash.”
Linford’s features finally softened, “If she asks, tell her you’re here because you came to visit me.”
“Yes, your highness. One way or another, I’ll vaguely remind her that you’re also in this city. And you’re definitely here for your business, not stalking some free woman.” Drew’s eyebrows were frowning.
Linford balled a napkin up and threw it at him. Drew shut the door before the ball could hit him on his head.
Drew walked out of the cafe, calling across the street as he saw Cristelle, “Hey, Cristelle!”
Cristelle looked back. A big smile appeared on her face as she saw Drew. And then, her eyes were fogged by fear.
A taxi came out of nowhere and suddenly dashed in her direction at full speed.
Cristelle tried to get out of its way. But she was so panicked that she hit her head against the wall. The taxi still almost got her.
It was inches away.
She nearly got hit by that taxi.
“Cristelle!” Diego had been standing behind her the whole time. He hastily pulled her tightly in his arms, and they both hit the concrete gutter.
Drew’s mouth fell open. This Diego was too courageous. He was literally guarding her with his life.
“Get away from me!” Cristelle pushed him, one hand covering her forehead.
Diego had no plan of letting her go, “You just hit your head. At least let me take a look!”
Suddenly a big hand was on his shoulder. Diego looked back, and a big fist was thrown at his face. Diego was sent sprawling on the road, and his nose was bleeding.
The phone that had been clenched in his hand the whole time flew out, colliding against the road and shattering into pieces.
“Not again!” Cristelle exclaimed as she went to check out her phone.
Linford’s face was still clouded with anger as he saw the small woman crouch down, picking up her shattered phone, “This is the second one this month. Are you kidding me?!”
“Cristelle.”
“Barnett,” Linford stood up in his full stance, looking down at Diego with a murderous look on his face, “If you touch her again, I’m gonna skin you alive.”
With that, he lowered his body and scooped Cristelle in his arms, walking across the street.
“What the heck are you doing? Let me go!” Cristelle struggled, “I still need to see Fritzi! Put me down!!!
Linford opened the car door, putting her on the seat, “We’re going to the hospital first.”
Drew followed.
“Why are we going to the hospital? I’m not dying.” Cristelle was also mad at this time, “And what the heck are you guys doing here? Are you stalking me as well, Bradley?”
Drew smiled, “It’s not Linford, Cristelle. I’ve got some business to handle here. Linford just came with me to lend a helping hand. We didn’t even expect to see you.”
“Really?” Cristelle frowned.
She sounded annoyed, and she didn’t believe Drew’s explanation.
