Chapter 63
The next day after Lisa had gotten ready for work, luckily he met Daniel eating breakfast in the dining room.
“Good morning ” Daniel smiled at her.
“Good morning, ” Lisa said and sat on the chair.
“Hope you slept well?” Daniel asked and Lisa nodded smiling at him.
“What is it you wanted to talk to me about last night ?” Daniel asked and Lisa raised her head and stared into his eyes. She then noticed his eyes were kinda swollen like he hadn’t slept last night. He looks so stressed and all and that aside she wondered how he knew she wanted to talk to him about something last night even without her saying it.
“It’s alright Lisa, you can talk to me about anything, ” Daniel said and gave Lisa a reassuring smile.
“I……” Lisa paused, staring at Daniel. He looked stressed already, she didn’t want to bother him with anything else.
“It’s nothing. I’m serious, it’s nothing ” Lisa said and Daniel scoffed. Even though he’s spent not so much time with Lisa, he could tell when she was lying.
“Lying doesn’t suit pregnant women, common tell me what it is,” Daniel said and Lisa sighed softly.
“It’s about Dina,” Lisa said
“What about her?” Daniel asked and Lisa told him everything Dina had told her. Daniel didn’t say a word after the whole narration.
“Daniel, I know what it feels like to be maltreated, I have been there before and I wouldn’t even wish such for my enemy. Please help Dina. I would have helped her if I had the power to, but I don’t.
Please Daniel help Dina. If not for anything for the fact that she’s your worker and she has a daughter too, please” Lisa said and Daniel sighed softly
“Okay, but I’ll investigate more on this and if it’s true, her husband will be sent to jail,” Daniel said and Lisa smiled at him.
“Thank you very much,” Lisa said and Daniel smiled
“I’m only doing this as a payback for helping secure the contract with Eric Hector” Daniel smiled and Lisa giggled.
“Oh, seriously. Is that the reason u accepted the fact that I’m your wife even when I’m not” Lisa laughed
“Oh that, I was only trying to protect you, Eric is known to be a man whore” Daniel laughed out loud and Lisa rolled her eyes at him.
“Common eat fast, you don’t want to be late for work,” Daniel said and Lisa nodded.
Daniel checked his time and clicked his tongue. “I’m going to be late for the office. The driver will bring you to the company, see you” Daniel said as he stood up, tucked his suit jacket, and pecked Lisa on her cheeks before walking out of the house.
Lisa sighed softly and slowly finished her food before going to work.
After Lisa had gotten to the company, she met Dina outside the company, she was on call. She looked so nervous and scared while talking to who she was talking to on the phone. It must be her husband, Lisa thought and she was correct.
“I told you already Dina, if you don’t bring me the money before the end of the day, I promise you, you gonna come home and meet your daughter’s corpse” Charles, Dina’s husband said on the phone. A cold shiver ran down Dina’s spine.
“I promise, I’ll bring you the money but please don’t harm my daughter ” Dina pleaded, shivering in fear as fear washed over her.
“You better do” Charles yelled
“Mommy, mommy please get me out of here. I hate him” Clara cried out from the phone and the tears Dina had been trying to hold for a long time finally let go.
“Baby, I’m going to get you out of there I promise, ” Dina said and Charles ended the call. Dina, who was shivering, cried silently, as the phone she was holding fell from her hands.
She remembered how her life was so peaceful. How everything was going so peacefully for them until her parents were killed. Life became miserable for her until Charles came into the picture and rescued her.
He helped her in so many ways that she couldn’t imagine that she fell in love with him. They both fell in love and were happy. They got married until suddenly everything changed. He changed.
He would come home drunk and beat the hell outta her. So many times she’s tried escaping from him but he’d always find her and her daughter.
She wondered what happened to the Charles she knew. She cried silently as pain, and sadness swept all over her.
She never wished for this life, not at all. She wanted a life where she will be married and her husband will respect her, treat her like a queen and treat their daughter like a princess. More tears welled up in her eyes.
Meanwhile, Lisa stood in the corner as she watched her cry her eyes out. She felt so much pity for Dina and her daughter. She didn’t know when but tears slid through her cheeks.
She wiped her tears and moved toward Dina.
She bent down and hugged her. “Everything is going to be fine” she consoled her. She remembered those were the exact words her mom told her before she passed away. Momma comforted her and told her everything was going to be fine even though she knew it was never going to be fine.
But now she’s making a promise to Dina, she was going to do everything in her power to help Dina and she’s promising her, here and right now, everything is going to be fine. She’s got everything under control.
“It’s not going to be fine, ” Dina said and Lisa smiled at her and gently wiped her tears.
“You, and your daughter. You’ll be fine. Everything is under control. You just need to be strong, if not for anything at least, for your daughter to be strong Dina. Be strong” Lisa said and she nodded and hugged her.
She felt so warm and calm as Lisa hugged her. She didn’t know why but she felt there was something about this pregnant woman consoling her.
