VIVIAN’S POV
Max rolled off me to another side of the bed and I creased my brows in confusion.
What’s wrong? I asked myself, staring at him as he got up on his feet and walked towards the wardrobe in the room. Everything about this house seemed to have been intensively prepared as I watched in surprise as Max pulled out a jogger trouser and t-shirt.
“Go to sleep Vivian” His cold voice sent shivers down my spine. Ever since he returned, he seemed t have drifted into a completely different person.
Did something happen there that could prompt this strange attitude from him? Perhaps, something did happen actually’ I thought in my head, watching him as he untied his towel and dressed up before walking towards the door to leave.
“Is something wrong Max?” I finally gathered the morale to ask, I hate being left in the dark no matter the circumstances. He halted on his tracks, his hands rested on the door knob in a contemplating stance, just as if he was wondering between answering my questions or leaving.
Finally, he turned towards me ” Do you really want to know?” He asked the same puzzling yet strange question yet again.
“Yes I want to know, I don’t care what it is but I deserve to know” I answered and he shut his eyes in exhaustion.
” Have you ever experienced the bitterness that comes betrayal?” He demanded and I nodded, remembering the scene with Sofia at the store and how I had felt when it turned out that she hadn’t been exactly clean with me.
” In as much as I would like to understand your words Max, I do not think anyone is capable of betraying you, the Devil La Rosa Marco” I called and he frowned deeply.
“What?” I stared at him in a questioning glare “Isn’t it what those guys called you? The devil of the second City, why hadn’t I cared to know all these while because it seemed I am the only one that goes with your real name” I added and in what seemed like a blink, max had already rushed towards me and pulled me up, glaring sternly into my eyes.
“And even so now, you do not fear me Vivian, even when you know my identity” He calloused and I smirked.
“You know, I used to hear that name a lot and the wonders it’s Benn doing across countries, all bad! I actually thought it was a committed terrorist not knowing that the almighty La Rosa Marco whose said to have no heart, does not think twice in killing and also lacked conscience is the heir to the Norman’s group, isn’t that something wonderful! You’ve made a deadly history that I didn’t know you had even when you’re not in power yet” He released his grip on me and I slumped back to the bed, breathing heavily. It wasn’t like he held me strongly but I was overwhelmed with a little nervousness at his behavior.
” And now you know La Rosa Marco, what are you going to do?” He said, sarcasm lacing through his voice.
“What would you have me do? Not like I can escape the Devil La Rosa Marco, can I ?” His expression turned with anger as I called out the name yet again.
” Don’t push my buttons Vivian” He cajoled with a hard commanding tone.
“Oh I’m not Max. I wouldn’t dare do that. I can’t even do that.. I have absolutely no right to do that trust me” I replied in a sarcastic tone as well, I knew I was gradually pissing him off and that was what I wanted. Max is always open to speak out his mind whenever he’s angry.
“Then what are you trying to do? Tell me” He demanded.
” You remembered you said I can ask you questions when we get back right? I want to do that now Max. Trust me, I have a thousand and one questions for you” I chipped in and he smiled cockily and waved his head.
“I’m listening” His reply came as he folded his hands under his arms in an awaiting stance.
” How many did you kill today?” I released and I I swear, I saw the glint of shock pass through his eyes. My question had threw him off guard but that was the first thing that lingered on my mind the moment I saw blood on his collar, I didn’t need to ask how it happened and went straight to the point.
” Is this what you wanted to ask me Vivian? This kind of unethical questions?” He inquired with a hard expression on his face.
I kept my face straight ” Yes, I want to know”
” Of course, I’ll tell you and trust me, it’s going to be really fun” He replied and walked towards the bed, sitting gently beside me.
“Now listen, the people that lost their lives, their blood stained on my hands are actually a multitude. I do not punish. My punishment is death and I also do not tolerate betrayals. I would rather spare a thief than leave a hypocrite beside me. And amongst those people that died by my gun, most of them were back stabbers and anyone who goes against La Rosa Marco doesn’t live to see the sunrise of the next day” He briefed and my breath caught in my throat.
Ever since I knew Max, never had I see him as dangerous as he seemed tonight. Even then, I knew he was in the Mafia yet not as dangerous as this, it felt like something had outrightly possesed him.
“Are you shocked wifey?” His voice zoned me out of my thoughts as I blinked numerously, trying to register the words he had said earlier.
” You want to hear more?” He asked and in that moment, all my system froze unable to make a move. ” So you involved in a killing spree today? What makes you different from a serial killer then?”
