Vivian POV
“If you knew you were going to bring back this case then why haven’t you done it since?” I asked, feeling a bit puzzled by her fierceness.
“I didn’t have evidence Vivian, I was searching blindly for the slightest cue or information that would help me but now, I have a strong one” She said, nodding her head in wonder.
“And how do you hope to achieve that. Ruth’s Mom like you said has strong hands in the government, they wouldn’t even need to look twice before ruling it off again as falsified claims just like they always do” I advised, fearing that she might start to push something that would turn against her but the moment she gave me a smile, the very smile that depicted she was upto something, I knew that whatever it was she was pursuing was already attained.
“Tell me Sofia, what have you done?” I asked suspiciously, raising an eyebrow.
“Trust me Vivian, I’ve done absolutely nothing.” She answered but I disagreed with a persistent nod. “Don’t tell me that, you might deceive anyone but me? No Sofia!”
“I haven’t even done anything but I’ll do something, you just watch and see. This might actually drain me but I’ll make sure it pulls the higher government in, people you wouldn’t Imagine I would turn them to witnesses, I don’t back out when I’m determined to do something and you know that right?” She asked, a deadly glint flickered through her eyes and I nodded.
“Sofia, just be careful alright. This isn’t something to be rushed or done rashly without strong evidence” I felt worried, it felt like things was going to go South after this.
” I have strong evidence Vivian. The driver who was paid to do the work is a big testimony already and I can weave my way in” She clasped her hands, expressing the situation as if it seemed easy like a piece of cake to her.
” And before I forget” She brought the black gown neatly wrapped in a white thick nylon and stretched towards me. “Here, have it”
“Wait. Why? It’s yours, you bought it and you already ordered for it” I shook my head in amusement, waving it off like it was a joke but her expression told me she wasn’t playing around, she was serious.
“Don’t tell me you’re serious Sofia? Believe me I would have actually bought the dress or you think I can’t afford it?” I asked.
“Nope, not that you can’t afford it. The thing is that I was surprised to see you in a store at first. You aren’t the type that cares about things like and I thought perhaps, you changed a bit and wanted something fancy maybe to wear for Max, who knows” She said in a jestive tone and I glared at her, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
“See, I was right. You’ve absolutely turned red Vivian” She attempted to touch my cheeks but I slapped her hands off immediately, my emotions heated up as I remembered the last time with him.
I instantly took my phone and checked the time, it was already running late and soon enough, the store would close but Max wasn’t yet back nor had he called.
I dialed his line, worry resting on my mind. It rang numerously but no answer.
“Is everything okay?” Sofia asked, noticing the sudden change of countenance in my mood.
“Max is not picking up and I don’t understand why he’s not even back yet” I answered in oblivion of my own words.
“Wait Vivian. What are you talking about? Where is Max?…. That’s right, you didn’t come with him? You came alone” She bombarded me questions all at once and I became even more frustrated and perturbed but I kept silent, my gaze focused intently on my phone screen for a pick up.
“Say something Vivian. You’re getting me scared, what happened to Max?”
“We were actually coming back from the hospital when this particular car was following us. Max seemed to have noticed it. He dropped me here and drove away, back to them and I don’t know if something has happened to him or not, I’m worried Sofia. Even if I want to hate him, I do not wish for anything to happen to him at least not yet” I narrated, my voice blurring together with expression, my heart already beginning to seep with guilt and sadness.
I didn’t want anything to happen to Max, nothing at all. He was the father of my baby no matter what.
“Fuck Vivian! Let’s go!” Sofia instantly pulled me up from the chair and I looked at her in confusion.
“Go where? I don’t understand, we don’t even know where he might be at the moment and he asked me to wait here, he’ll be back” I rushed the words, my emotions tearing in between confusion and trust on Max’s words.
He had said he would come back and that was what was keeping me here with hope. Max wasn’t the type to fail on his words even though there’s a distrust in our relationship. He was an heir and a Mafia gang leader and one of their virtues is keeping firm to their laws, words and integrity.
“Are fucking kidding me Vivian? Let’s go look for him. You can’t just sit here and wait even though he asked you to? If we go and Don’t find him then you go back home, Besides, the store would be closing soon and how are you even sure Max hadn’t gone back home. You know how cocky and arrogant he can be. Common, let’s face the fact now” She said, the harsh truth shoved directly to my face.
Sofia was right! Why would I even completely trust Max even after everything that’s happened? Am I that much of a fool. Perhaps he had gone back or went to somewhere else without even bothering to let me know. But then, there’s a part of me that do much wanted to believe him this time and I would wait.
“No Sofia, Max said he would come back, I have to wait for him_”
“Hi everyone, the store is about to close please wrap up whatever you’re doing for the next day, Thanks” A voice reverberated in the whole store and gradually everyone began to disperse.
