Vivian POV
“Do you want to share?” I asked but she shook her head in denial, flashing a warning smile at me.
“No, not now Vee” She replied, her gaze shifted to her fingers as she fiddled with them. I studied her for a moment, realizing that all these while I had wished to be like Sofia had been a terrible wish because it wasn’t actually well with her.
Truly, Don’t judge a book by its cover. Even as an established woman, a renowned lawyer in the city, Sofia still seemed like someone who was a shadow of herself but always put on a facade that made it look like everything was perfect for her.
“You know, I would press further if you don’t feel okay telling me, I’ll wait. I know you also have your reasons” I said in a reassuring tone, not wanting to make her feel bad.
“And lest I forget Sofia” I called and she turned to look at me again ” You said something about my Mom and Mr Norman, can you tell me what it is, the relationship they hold and also how do you even know all these despite the fact you can get information if you want?”
She smiled and took my hands in her palms, staring into my eyes deeply ” I’ve always known Vivian. Your Mom and my Mom used to be friends and you know that, I can’t explain in details but just know that your Mom has all the answers you want” She answered “Maybe I might now a little too” She added in a mutter but t I heard it.
“Tell me the little you know then, it might be a good piece” I urged inquisitively but she went silent in thoughts. I waited patiently, knowing that whenever Sofia hesitated on saying something would definitely mean that whatever it was wouldn’t seethe well with anyone.
” You remember I said, they were three friends right?” She asked ” Max’s Mom, Your Mom and Ruth’s Mom” I replied, nodding without hesitation.
“Good! Max’s Mom name was Evelyn and she liked Mr Norman” Sofia blurted out and I furrowed my brows in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
“I meant, Evelyn actually liked Mr Norman, they were best friends since childhood and she had a very long crush on him but then, Mr Norman liked someone else” She blinked her at me.
“Wait. Don’t tell me that person is my Mom okay?”
I breathed in hard, fearing the obvious truth.
“Well, unfortunately it was your Mom” She revealed and my heart raced. I was beginning to understand and connect the dots, it actually made sense. The reason Mr Norman had been lost staring at my Mom, their intense romance scene, the attraction was there even till date, everything was gradually becoming clear.
“So what happened? Did my Mom also like him?” I demanded, my curiosity heightened to the peak even as my head compounded in multiple complicating thoughts.
” Well, it seemed so but somehow I can’t tell, your Mom was pregnant with you and Mr Norman turned out not to be the father”
“And they broke up because of that?” I inquired and she nodded in disagreement.
“No, the pregnancy didn’t stop them from seeing each other but it was something else.”
“And what is that?” I questioned.
“It was when your Mom found out that Evelyn already had a four year old Son for Mr Norman ”
“What!!!” I yelled, this time around, my voice drew the attention of people towards us, wondering if something had happened but my focus was only on the words Sofia had spilled.
“Yes Vivian, it’s a lot and complicated. That is the main reason I can’t tell you more, your Mom should be the one to tell you these things”
I waved my hair “No. No. No, you have to tell me, my Mom won’t even say a word”
“Vivian, I won’t say further because I promised my Mom not to let you know before she had an accident” She whined uncomfortably.
“No, please you have to tell me more… please” I tightened my grip around her palms insistingly.
“Well, your Mom had to break up with him. They had so many complications that was stopping their union especially when Evelyn had visited and pleaded with your Mom to leave Mr Norman. There was no other choice, they broke up. Listen Vivian, I__”
“That child was Max right? The four year old boy?” I cut in on her words with the question that lingered in my mind at once.
“Yeah, it was Max but that wasn’t even all. There was more. Mr Norman actually had a lot of love interests” She laughed out. ” Ruth’s Mom was among too, she chased Mr Norman even when she knew everything and to summarize everything Vivian__” Sofia paused and stood up, her expression suddenly turning fierce and determined.
” I think I’ve found the reason for my career and I’ll chase it till the ends of the Earth until I find justice” She asserted.
“What are you talking about Sofia?” I asked, confused at her words.
” Ruth’s Mom is responsible for the death of both Max’s Mother and my mom as well, she orchestrated the accident, manipulated everything on that rainy day to make it seem like the tire screeched and you know what I like most about all these?” She crouched down to my height with a mischievous smile, her lawful aura coming into shape and I gulped.
“And what is that?”
“It’s the fact that the driver didn’t die, sustained a few injuries and is still alive” She revealed and my mouth hung open in utter shock.
“Wait, you know everything all these while and you’ve kept adamant, your mom’s death was fucking ruled off as an accident and nobody talked about it! Does my Mom know too?” At this point, I felt like crying, remembering the event as if it just happened a day before today.
“Your Mom knows and I’ve been silent because Ruth’s Mom got hands in the government but this time around, I’ll be resurrecting a dead case”
