VIVIAN POV
“Daniel Browns?” I called in shock as I stared at the woman beside him none other than my best friend Sofia.
” Vivian?” Sofia called, shock evident in her face. So Sofia’s secret husband all these while had been Daniel Browns? Was that why he seemed casual with me at the hospital? This was a devastating surprise indeed! Countless times, I had asked Sofia to reveal her husband maybe a picture would do but she was keen and Stern on showing his identity, saying that it was better left unknown to me and I wondered why she had said that.
“Daniel Browns is your husband? The hide and seek all these while is him Sofia?” I couldn’t help but ask. She shrugged, pressing her lips thinly to each other as if suddenly wanting to hide.
“Wow Sofia! Just wow!” I exclaimed, shaking my head in light wonder.
“Vivian, I can explain okay. We should go over there and I’ll tell you the reason” She said, her expression riling with guilt as she looked down, unable to meet my own gaze.
“What is there to explain again Sofia. Perhaps you’ve really felt insecure around me that you couldn’t expose such a truth to someone like me whose husband keeps playing her around.” I pinpointed ” Or no! Soon to be Ex-husband” I corrected myself.
“Vivian, you’re misunderstanding this! I didn’t do it because I felt like you shouldn’t know. I’m your friend, you should trust what I say right?” She replied, feeling frustrated by my words.
Right now, I didn’t even know how I was feeling. Both frustration and dejection seemed to have overwhelmed the whole of my body. Rational thinking seemed to have fled from me as I tried to bear the weight of it right now, the magnitude of the shock I had just seen first hand, to say it didn’t marvel me would be a blatant lie to my self because I had thought maybe her husband was just a normal rich man like every other person.
Does Max know? Does he know that my best friend’s husband has been Daniel Browns all these while. Now I remember! Each time I had used Sofia’s name as an excuse to get money out of Max, he wouldn’t hesitate to do it.
Something was definitely missing! But I couldn’t place my hands on what it was yet.
“You don’t have to worry Sofia. Trusting anyone’s words right now is what has kept me in the situation I am today. Anyways I am happy for you, that’s a responsible man you got there” I forced a smile on my cheeks, contradicting the tight knot of tears that wanted to spill down my cheeks as I turned to face the sales girl.
“Like I said before, I would like to get this dress but_”
“I already ordered for that” Sofia cut in on my words even before I could finish. I raised an eyebrow in a questioning manner at the sales girl and she nodded, bowing slightly.
“Alright, I guess that’s my cue to get another dress then. Can you show me something quality again” I asked her but she shook head.
“I’m sorry ma’am. I would have to attend to them first since you haven’t made a choice” She said, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she turned to face Sofia and Daniel. For some reasons, Daniel’s gaze was stuck on me, as if reading my every movement with his eyes. I felt nervousness eat me up slowly but I managed to straighten up myself and walked to another part of the counter, using my side eye to see if Sofia would perhaps run after me to explain herself but she didn’t instead, she stood, her focus completely diverted to the dress the sales girl neatly arranged for them.
I decided to take my mind off them for a while and focus on a few things, my eyes caught another silhouette figure nude-color knee length gown that had a slit to the upper thigh. I instantly liked the gown and advanced towards it as it circled round inside the closet it was.
“If you’re done, over here. I would like to get these” I said, my voice a bit loud as I waved to the sales girl but her attention wasn’t even in my direction. She seemed to be lost staring at Daniel Browns, completely smitten by him. Seeing that her attention was completely not focused on her business, I decided to wait until she recollects her senses.
My gaze still stuck on the dress as I imagined what I would look like in that dress.
” It’s a beautiful one, It would fit you perfectly well” The familiar voice spoke behind me and I whirled around instantly only to see Daniel Browns standing closer towards me with a smile, his hands tugged into his trouser pockets. He stood with style, the exact composure that would make one immediately recognize him as a model_ so perfect with a very demure figure.
Daniel Browns wouldn’t be tagged as handsome, he was pretty. Even his thick eyebrows was perfectly curved into an arc, accentuating his chiseled jaw line, his eyes seemed like someone who was sleepy, making him the more attractive. This was what stood different between him and Max. While Max had the dangerous mafia dark eyes that made me obsessed, Daniel Browns had the kind that could easily lure anyone.
Wait? Am I really checking him out? And comparing him with Max? Damn! Get a good of yourself Vivian! These men are dangerous! I screamed in my head, shaking my head lightly to snap out of the daze.
” And how would you know what would fit me and what not?” I inquired, darting my gaze anywhere else but him. He might look so attractive but these type of men bites a lot just like Max.
“Well, that is expected don’t you think so?” He smiled as he leaned in closer to my face, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips. I didn’t notice his posture soon enough as when I lifted my gaze to look at him, our faces was dangerously close. I blinked numerous as I stared into his blue eye balls and nstantly shifted back and swallowed hard, wanting to calm my already racing heart.
I needed to get out of here!
