Vivian POV
I fluttered my eye lids open, taking in the hot sun that penetrated through the curtain as I quickly covered my eyes with my hands, preventing further burn from the sun but then I winced, feeling a stinging sharp pain pierce my arm; A drip was connected to it.
“Thank Goodness you’re awake, I’m saved” A strange unfamiliar yet familiar voice said as he walked towards me, putting on his expense white coat that made his profession stand out, I instantly recognized him as the doctor whom I had earlier rushed to seek answers the other day about who cleared for my surgery bills.
“What happened Doctor Tim? Where’s my my husband_ I mean Max and my Mom” I asked, not realizing when the words escaped my lips. I bit my lips in regret having revealed that piece of information because Doctor Tim might not really know that Max was my husband perhaps for the moment.
“Your husband? You mean Max Norman? He almost turned down this whole hospital the moment you passed out, he almost bought it” He retold with dread lacing through his voice. His body language alone told me that whatever scene Max must have caused was definitely not an easy one.
Just then, a voice rang out in the room as both I and Doctor Tim tilted our heads forward.
“Breaking News, our city’s sweetheart, the handsome and most successful Billionaire and heir of the Norman’s has ultimately gone raging to tear down a hospital, threatening to sack all its employees because of a female patient we don’t know yet. He had also gone ahead to buy the hospital in a space of thirty two seconds to show how deadly serious he was. Now a question leaves us hanging, who is the mysterious female patient that could ignite that flame in him? Could Max Norman be having extramarital affairs outside of his secret marriage with his wife? We hope our Max is still as faithful as we know ” The news caster finally said and the TV was replaced with a different show just immediately.
Doctor Tim shifted his gaze towards me but I looked away.
Something wasn’t right in this hospital! How could such a news get out so easily? First it was the nurse that had almost taken a record of me and now this?; I think there are a lot of moles in here.
Just then, Mr Norman’s voice resounded in my head “Alright, but keep in mind that I might need Vivian to accompany me to the head quarters towards evening today” I quickly remembered he had scheduled an appointment to go with me to the headquarters.
Damn! What am I still doing here
I stood up from the bed, wiping the sweat that formed on my head with my right hand and without warning, I pulled off the scalp vein needle connected to my arm which stunned the doctor.
“What are you doing? You shouldn’t have done___”
“Thanks Doctor Tim. But I’m sorry, I need to be somewhere right now” I said as I quickly grabbed my phone to rush out.
“No, you might faint on the way, it’s not healthy for the baby!” He suddenly revealed and instantly, I froze on my tracks.
What baby? My head spinned and I turned sharply to face the doctor, feigning like I didn’t know what he was he talking about. My heart raced with trepidation that a third party had finally found out about my pregnancy.
“What baby are you talking about Doctor?” I asked with confused expression and he smiled, I knew something was off.
“After running a series of tests, I found out that you’re a month and two days pregnant ma’am, that was the main reason for the fainting because you’ve stressed the baby!” He revealed and my ears twitched in their corners.
“What!” I screamed, shaking my head in fear. ” What in the name of the heavens!” I uttered, transfixed of how to react to his words.
” As a matter of fact, I was coming to give you this and inform Max as soon as you woke up” He said, sliding out a paper from his side pockets and handed it over to me.
“That’s the tests result,” He added as I quickly took a quick glance and realized it was true. My hands shook with tremor as my eyes suddenly turned wet and I bursted into tears again, the waterworks staining the paper.
Oh my baby’ I touched my little baby bump, suddenly feeling bad that I was making it go through a tough time.
I sniffed back another unshed tears that was threatening spill and looked at the Doctor, a thought scaled through my mind.
“Have you told my husband about my pregnancy?” I asked and he smiled.
“No, I was going to do that” He replied and just what I wanted to hear, I quickly grabbed his hands desperately with my eyes pleading. “Please, can you not tell my husband about the news? I’ll tell him myself” I asked and his brows knitted with confusion at my words, I knew he wasn’t expecting my reaction.
“Why?” He demanded and I shut my eyes, releasing a long breath alongside and opened them again.
“Just promise me, please Doctor, do me this favor, I want it to be a surprise for him, I have my reasons trust me” I urged further and after some minutes of silence, contemplating with my words, he finally agreed.
“Alright, I promise but then, I do not want to get on Max Norman’s bad side, I really do not want to Ma’am” He asserted and I smiled.
“Thank you Doctor, I promise you really won’t get on his bad side” I said with gratitude, mulling my emotions as I turned back to leave immediately.
“You aren’t staying? You need your strength for the baby, it’s the gestational period” He called back and I shook my head even without turning back.
“Don’t worry Doctor. I’ll be fine” I said and finally walked out.
As soon as I got out of the hospital premises, I took out my phone and dialed a number.
Ring…. Ring…. Ring And the line connected after the third ring.
