Vivian POV
As soon as the words left his lips, Max’s mother leapt up menacingly, making few of us flinch back in surprise as she stormed towards where I sat with Max
“She’s already pregnant Max?” She inquired, folding her hands together under her chest in a demanding stance. My eyes narrowed at her wearily, puzzled by her behavior outrightly.
Did she crave for a child that much? Was that why she kept glaring at me with hatred since I couldn’t bear his son a child? What would be Max’s answer? Would he expose Ruth’s pregnancy and declare her child as his heir? My thoughts raced with different unanswered questions, my eyes shimmering with wonder of my own theory.
“I don’t have an heir Nicolas” Max’s voice came out as sultry tone, totally ignoring his mother’s words, he picked up his fork and dug into the meat in his plate, his features brimming with nonchalance as he took in a bite into his mouth and chewed slowly, savoring the taste of the meat and nodding in affirmation. His attitude irked both the man called Nicolas who asked the question as well as his mother, who stood rooted behind us, perhaps waiting for the answer to her replies.
There was this strange connection between Max and his mother that got me curious, it felt like they were entirely opposite to each other. Max didn’t seem to like her that much neither does she seem to adore Max.
She obviously preferred Daniel, her younger son and it kept me wondering on what had really went on amongst them. When I had first gotten married to Max, she was warm to him although not towards me at first, but right now, I couldn’t even feel the mutuality between them.
” Max, I asked you a question” She added unwrapping her hands and resting it on her waist akimbo.
“I have nothing to say to you mother, I don’t have an heir perhaps Daniel could give you that, I’m not ready. Why don’t you ask him” Max replied, cutting another bite of meat from the plate.
It was only Mr Norman, Max and I that ate on the dining. The rest of everyone just stared at Max.
” Don’t speak to me like that Max Norman” She fired angrily, hitting her hands on the chair he sat. Max dropped his spoon on the dining instantly, his eyes squinting to anger as he stood up, turning to face his mother.
“Then learn to mind your fucking business Hannah!” Max snapped, his voice echoing loudly in the dining. I have never seen him so pissed, so raged and dangerously angry.
“The time you use questioning my fucking business is the time you should use to teach your damned son how to run his company! Stop sticking your nose in my affairs Hannah. I am not asking, this is my last warning to you, never ever raise your voice at me!” Max thundered heavily, pushed his chair back and walked out. My teeth shuddered in tremor, I have never seen this side of Max before.
I have seen him angry but not like this. It felt like he could murder, the mafia aura echoed in his voice.
I watched him till he was out of sight.
Where was he going? How could he even leave me alone here. And worse more, Mr Norman was strangely silent even with everything that was happening. I was utterly curious, anxious and also a bit puzzled.
” You won’t join your husband? You should help him loosen up a bit since you’re his wife” Daniel snickered mockingly and I glared at him with contempt.
Why is it that he doesn’t always mind his business? He was always looking for a moment to say something. He would always have something to say. His attitude was absolutely irritating.
While Max was calm and reserved in nature, his brother was completely the opposite of him.
” I know my Max well enough to know when he needs space unlike someone who can’t even manage his relationships” I retorted and he flared instantly.
My words hit him and it was exactly what I wanted.
I hated people like him and right now, he was the worst person I disliked.
“Are you referring to me as someone who can’t manage his relationships?” He asked and I nodded in a jest but in a blink, I felt my hair gripped from behind.
There was really going to be a fight!
