Vivian POV
“We really didn’t Divorce Dad, you got the wrong information this time around” Max answered with a firm tone as he pulled me along to one of the cushion in the room. I could still feel his mother’s gaze on every of my movements but I managed to still myself as we gently sat down.
“Hmmm, that is a surprise and a good thing for you Max” Mr Norman chimed, smiling.
” That is if only they aren’t faking it Dad, your first son is very good at acting you know that” Daniel said, making the tension in the room become even more stiff. I felt Max clench his fists beside me and I knew if probed any further, there was going to be real fight soon and everything might mess up; that was exactly where his brother was pressing but I wouldn’t let it happen.
I am not doing it for Max, I am only doing it because I hated hypocrites like them.
Max was absolutely way better than his brother in terms of character, not to talk of his famous flirtatious lifestyle that was known all over the city.
” We only had a little misunderstanding father but we made up and we’re good,” I said and Mr Norman stared at me for a while and nodded.
“Very well then dear Vivian” He smiled ” We’ll be celebrating the company’s anniversary soon enough so that is why I requested for all your presence and in this one month period. As you all know, I’m getting tired of running the company as the chairman” He added, looking from Max to Daniel and then to me before the lady that sat beside Daniel.
“I won’t be hosting for the most competent to take after me, it’ll only depend on who is smart enough to take up that position” Mr Norman stood up, walking towards the center of the room and stopped, his eyes running another scrutiny between us.
“And also, I crave to see my grandchildren, when are you giving me that Max?” He faces directly towards Max who became tensed at the question. With everything going on, I had come to understand that Max was especially scared of his father, maybe he wasn’t scared but he seemed to never want to misplace a word of his. I instinctively touched my still flat belly, feeling the calmness of the little bundle of joy growing inside me.
” Dad_ Isn’t too soon to ask for grandchildren. I am not ready for kids now”Max replied, suddenly feeling disoriented. I wondered why the idea of kids usually struck him so hard.
Did he hate them or something or was it that he didn’t exactly want to have kids with me? Max had sternly warned me not to get pregnant for him with the excuse he didn’t want me as the mother of his children but asides that, Max doesn’t even seem interested in having kids, it was more like something that irked him.
” What about you Vivian? Are you still not ready to have kids like Max? You both have been married for three year yet without any child” He stared at me and I looked down, my mind was reeling with multiple thoughts on the best answer to give him. If I supported Max on his words then it would only mean I was going to be on the bad side of his mother.
“Father We__”
“Dad, did you even have to ask them that?” Daniel chipped in, cutting me off abruptly with a mischievous grin. “It’s obvious Max isn’t having babies anytime soon, stop forcing that on him and his beautiful wife. They would have it when the time comes right?” Daniel jested, looking intently at me. I could feel the anger pulsating from Max, but he was holding in because of his parents maybe.
Deciding to intervene, I decided to break a bombshell ” Father, I know very well you would like a legitimate heir right?” I began and they creased their brows in confusion at my words but I continued ” You wouldn’t want to have a child whose DNA doesn’t align with the scope of this family, I mean someone their roots can be questionable to the media” I added and it was only then Mr Norman realized where my words was heading to. From a corner, Daniel gritted his teeth by my words but I smirked, even Max was surprised at how I could twist words so easily that it could cut deep.
“So we’re just taking our time to figure things out and after that, we’ll give you what you so much desire father. Wouldn’t that be okay by you?”
“Of course my dear, you can take your time for now but I honestly really wish to see my grandchildren dear Vivian” Mr Norman said, his slightly wrinkled cheeks extending even into a more widened smile.
Surely, it felt so good to win!
“Thanks” Max muttered silently beside me and I smiled.
“Alright, it’s evening already and since everyone is back, I guess we should have something to eat” Max’s father implied as his gaze shifted to the butler who had been silent throughout the whole conversation.
“Marcus, ask the girls to prepare dinner for everyone” He ordered as the butler bowed and instantly strode off to another part of the building.
The interior blocks seemed to have been extended than the last time I came here which was three years ago as I couldn’t even recognize some of the outlets anymore.
“We’ll get to our rooms now Dad and come down for dinner later”Max took my hands and I stood up, arranging his dress properly and feigning a loving smile as well. Mr Norman nodded at us and we turned to walk out.
We hadn’t even taken two steps away from the living room when Max’s mother spoke up, the woman who had been silent the whole time only glaring at me at time intervals.
” Are you sure your wife isn’t barren Max?”
