Vivian POV
The tension in the car suddenly became stiff as I stared at Max as if he had developed another head. Indeed, he might have developed another head because how could he be as shameless as he was right now.
” Are you sure you’re alright Max?” I asked in between mixed feelings and he smirked, adding perplexity to my already confused mind.
“Why? You think I’m acting strange wifey?” He replied, suddenly pulling away from me as he arranged his shirt and settled back to his seat like he hadn’t done anything a while ago.
“You have Ruth, a very beautiful and smart woman at home so I don’t understand why you think doing this is–”
” It’s the very best for us now Vivian because we’ll be doing more than just that once we arrive at our destination, so be prepared to see more of this sweet side of me dear wife” He cut in sharply on my words, irritating my emotions. I hated my poor heart for still beating for this lunatic beside me, I just wanted to hate him.
“I’m not your wife Max, stop being shameless enough to call me that, we’re already done with each other and just know that what you’re doing right now, is illegal abduction of a person” I countered, clenching my fists to my sides but he ignored my words.
Silence stretched between us as he tapped impatiently on his knees, staring at his wrist watch at time intervals and in that moment, I knew that whatever it was that made him this worked up must be really crucial but who cares, I really hated him right now and his business was none to concern me with.
I turned my face to stare out of the window of the car, my thoughts swinging at different things all at once.
It was already thirty minutes since the drive and I wondered where Max was taking me to.
I was gravely worried about my Mom. I didn’t want her to be alone as soon as her surgery was done but Max had appeared from nowhere and made me his captive, like I had no right of my own In this world. Only if he knew my roots, if he knew what I represented and stood for, I could be a common girl whose family abandoned in his eyes but I was more than that.
I had abandoned my career as the heir to Rooper Enterprise, the largest oil group in the continent that was exclusively ran by my grandfather to pursue Max for three years, trapped in my own negligence and blinded by my affection for him. All these, yet I didn’t achieve anything, not his love, care, wealth or anything at all. I guess that was the Trump cared I needed to realize that I should lead my real life but Max had blurred the picture again.
Slit! A sound rang out behind me out of the blue and I turned sharply to see Max tearing a paper into shreds.
“This is the Divorce paper we both signed Vivian and as long as it’s not there any longer, I am still entitled to you as your husband, I need you to understand that” He said, throwing the shreds out of the window of the car.
I became puzzled and worried at the same time. What has come over Max. Hours ago, he was so eager to divorce me and have his girlfriend move in to the house but now, he had torn the Divorce agreement papers.
” You think tearing that would make me your wife Max?” I asked, feeling the contempt of slapping his face but I held in my anger from bursting to the surface.
“You’re ridiculous Max! To think that you’re still entitled as my husband. You think so highly of yourself don’t you?” I asked, still baffled at his nonchalant attitude but he feigned ignorant of my words, bluffing and ignoring my rants but I wasn’t ready to stop just yet.
” Listen Max, I have already tolerated enough of your insolence towards me and I won’t take it any longer, if you think I’m still the Vivian you used to know then you need to get over it because I’m so done with you!” I yelled at the top of my voice and just then, the car pulled to a stop in front of a familiar mansion.
I widened my eyes in surprise as I stared at the building and instantly turned to face Max “What are we doing here Max?”I demanded in a fierce tone, this wasn’t the time to be feeble anymore. If Max didn’t want it in peace then we’ll do it the hard way.
He ignored my question at first as one of the guards rushed to open the door for me but before he could do that, I kicked it open and alighted sharply from the car.
I was already seething with anger at the moment and it was just only a few patience left in me. He came down from the car, dipping his hands into his side pockets and walked towards where I stood fuming as he faced me with a blank expression on his face.
“Father learnt of the Divorce, Vivian ” He began but his words still held no meaning emy ears.
What has that got to with the fact that he brought me to the family mansion?
” He threatened to hand over chairmanship to Daniel if I had really Divorced you. So now, we’re going in there to make him approve of the fact that I really didn’t Divorce you and we’re staying for a month and after that, we can settle for the divorce then” He finally said, signalling one of his men to come closer as he whispered something to his ears. My head riled in shock and confusion at the same time.
I was staying here for a month more with Max? Just for him to secure his father’s assets?
“You think I’m some kind of property you could play with as you like right? You don’t even feel the least guilty of your actions. I’m not spending one more moment of my time with you here” I snapped and instantly, turned around to storm out.
” You won’t see your Mom after her surgery if you don’t cooperate Vivian” He divulged and I halted on my tracks, with my head spinning with the very obvious question.
“What has my Mom got to with this?”
