“If you were certain I wouldn’t win, you wouldn’t have called me,” Rosalind said calmly, her voice steady and unwavering. “Am I right?”
Audrey was clearly taken aback by her composure and immediately raised her voice.
“Do you think Ulric will always protect you? Let me tell you, he is my son!”
“Yes, I know.”
“Rosalind!”
“The outcome of this lawsuit isn’t for you or me to decide. Let’s wait for the judgment. There’s no need for private discussions with me.”
Rosalind hung up the phone without resorting to harsh words with Audrey.
She wasn’t that kind of person and saw no point in it.
If she angered Audrey into a fit and she fell ill before the verdict, she would end up being accused.
Moreover, Ulric would be caught in the middle.
There was no need for that.
…
Tilda agreed to go with Johnny to the city hall.
Only then would she have a chance to leave here!
Once at the city hall, there might be more opportunities to escape. Johnny couldn’t watch her every moment.
Johnny dressed very formally, in a suit and tie, with his hair meticulously styled. His handsome face was both refined and deep-set.
In the car, he seemed very excited, holding Tilda’s hand tightly.
Compared to his excitement, Tilda was much quieter.
She leaned her head against the car window, silent.
“Are you feeling unwell?”
Johnny noticed something was off about her.
“No.”
“After we get the marriage certificate, I’ll take you to eat whatever you want and buy anything you like.”
Tilda looked up into his deep eyes. “Do you really have to be like this?”
Johnny’s expression changed instantly, and his gaze turned grim.
“I told you, you had no choice but to marry me. Sooner or later, we are going to get married. What’s the difference between getting married now and getting married later?”
“But we’ve only known each other for a short while!”
“But we have the rest of our lives to get to know each other better.”
Tilda pressed her lips together, knowing it was useless to argue with him.
When they arrived at the city hall, she initially thought she might have a chance to blend into the crowd and slip away. But she didn’t expect Johnny to clear the place out.
Only the two of them were there to register.
“Mr. Chow, Miss Wales, this way, please.”
“Alright!” Johnny pulled Tilda’s hand as they were about to go.
“Wait!”
Tilda suddenly exclaimed and then clutched her abdomen with both hands. “Johnny, I need to use the restroom first. Is that okay?”
She tried her best to appear urgent, fearing Johnny wouldn’t believe her.
Fortunately, Johnny didn’t overthink it and nodded. “I’ll take you there.”
“No need. I can go by myself.”
With that said, she quickly walked towards the restroom.
As soon as Tilda entered, she had been eyeing the restroom’s location.
Johnny instinctively wanted to follow but stopped after taking just one step.
Perhaps she really just needed to use the restroom.
He didn’t want to push Tilda too hard.
Now that everyone in and around the city hall was his people. Why make her feel too oppressed?
Johnny stood still and took out his phone for a glance.
On it were calls from Caroline and messages pleading for mercy.
“Johnny, I’m begging you. Please spare my family! My mom is really not doing well!”
“For the sake of the time I spent with you, can you show some mercy?”
“Johnny! My mom just received a critical condition notice. Are you satisfied now?”
Satisfied?
His thin lips curled into a wicked smirk.
Naturally, he wasn’t satisfied.
