As soon as Tilda heard those words, she froze. Rosalind was equally shocked.
Rosalind wondered if Johnny intentionally came up with this excuse to let Tilda keep the baby.
Before Rosalind could finish her thoughts, Tilda spoke up, “Do you really think I would believe you?”
“It’s true! It’s Ulric-” Johnny’s words were cut off halfway when he remembered Ulric warning him not to let Rosalind know about his return. He lowered his voice and glanced at Rosalind guiltily before hesitantly continuing, “Ulric helped me find out that something was off with the child’s blood type…”
Surprisingly, Ulric was involved in this too.
Rosalind felt they needed some time alone, so she cleared her throat and said, “Well, you two should have a good talk. Since the child isn’t yours, I think there’s a lot you need to discuss. I’m going to take a walk over there! Tilda, call me if you need anything.”
“Alright.” Tilda knew that Johnny would definitely pester her and it would be difficult to get away from him for a while.
Rosalind also genuinely wanted to go for a walk.
She had spent the whole day making and receiving phone calls, feeling worried and restless.
Now that she was outside and taking a breath of fresh air, she felt much better.
She knew there was a park nearby, so she headed in that direction.
There weren’t many people in the park today.
Rosalind glanced at her phone and saw that it was Tuesday. Combined with the cool breeze blowing, she understood why there were no people around.
She sat on a bench for a while. Suddenly, she had a strong craving for alcohol.
Her eyes scanned the area, and she spotted a supermarket not far away.
Rosalind walked in and grabbed a few cans of beer. While paying for them, she asked the shopkeeper for a plastic bag and carried it back to the park.
The darker it got, the colder the wind became.
Rosalind opened a can of beer. Maybe she was really craving it because she finished one can in just a few sips.
Since her apartment wasn’t far away and she planned to go to sleep once she got back, she allowed herself to keep drinking.
But her alcohol tolerance wasn’t great, and it had been a while since she last consumed any alcohol. As she opened the third can, Rosalind started feeling dizzy. Her feet felt soft like stepping on cotton, making it difficult to stand up.
As she tried to stand up with her hand on the bench for support, her gaze suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
Ulric?
But when she blinked and looked again, the person was gone.
Rosalind pursed her lips, sat back down, and took out her phone. With a slight drunkenness, she found Ulric’s phone number and texted him.
“Are you in Northville City?”
Almost a minute later, he replied, “No.”
Rosalind rubbed her temples with her hand and reached for the third can. Her gaze remained fixed on the phone screen.
Besides those two words in response, Ulric didn’t send any more messages.
He didn’t even ask why she was looking for him so late at night.
This didn’t seem like Ulric.
So there was only one possibility-she must have been seeing things just now.
After thinking for a moment, Rosalind lowered her eyes and continued messaging Ulric.
“Oh well, I’m drunk and thought if you were in Northville City. I was thinking perhaps you could pick me up. But since you’re not here, forget it.”
After a pause, she sent another message.
“I can ask Malcolm to pick me up. He happens to have an empty room at his place and can take care of me.”
As soon as she sent the message, Rosalind heard steady footsteps approaching from behind.
