The room had returned to a state of calm, a desolate silence filling the air.
Anthony walked over and bumped into Lily. For strangers, he always showed a stern face and shouted, “Who are you?”
Lily was startled, clearly nervous. She quickly turned to leave, explaining, “I’m sorry, I must have come to the wrong place…”
Anthony squinted his eyes. Having been in the business world for many years, he was familiar with all sorts of underhanded tactics. He never believed Lily’s sudden appearance was a coincidence. His gaze swept the room and finally rested on her phone. He signaled, and security guards approached.
“What are you doing… don’t come near me…”
Anthony ignored Lily and looked at the slightly ajar door before walking in.
He immediately saw Nelson, who seemed to have lost his soul. Nelson appeared undisturbed by the commotion outside. Anthony understood that Nelson was deeply troubled and had isolated himself. “Sir, are you okay?”
Nelson’s gaze finally regained some focus. Looking at the empty room, he murmured, “Did they… leave?”
His tone was somewhat forlorn.
“Mr. Oconnor, you’ve found Miss Marsh. Some things take time; there’s no need to rush… Besides, you now have a child together. There’s always a chance to fix your relationship…” Before Anthony could finish, Nelson seemed to remember something. He suddenly strode out of the room, hurriedly searching for something.
“Mr. Oconnor, what are you looking for? Do you need my help?” Anthony followed closely, concerned.
Nelson didn’t reply. He was rummaging through the room desperately like a headless chicken. The once neat and tidy room was in a complete mess because of his frenzied search. Just when Anthony was feeling puzzled, Nelson suddenly stopped moving his hands. His eyes were fixed on something.
Following his line of sight, Anthony saw a small candy lying quietly on the table.
Grape’s soft voice echoed in his ears. “Uncle, Mommy says eating candy makes one happy. You should be happy; you look ugly when you’re grumpy.”
Nelson chuckled and reached out to hold the small candy in his palm like a treasure. It was the candy his daughter had given him, and he almost lost it…
Back home, Callie seemed somewhat lost. Though Grape was young, she could tell her mother was unhappy today.
“Mommy…” She reached out her small hand to tightly grip Callie’s hand.
Callie lowered her eyes to look at Grape’s expectant gaze. She knew some things couldn’t be hidden…
“Grape… Mommy has something to tell you,” Callie said, fixing her daughter’s innocent face with a rare, serious look.
Grape pouted as if she understood something.
“Mommy, I don’t want Daddy anymore… Please don’t be sad, okay?”
Grape’s perceptiveness surprised Callie. “Grape, you’ve known… he’s your daddy?”
She asked with a hint of uncertainty.
The little head nodded heavily.
“… The photos, your wedding photos,” Grape said clearly.
Callie instantly understood. No wonder Grape willingly called him Daddy…
“But… I don’t like Daddy,” Grape said sadly. Originally, she liked Nelson very much, but… Mommy was sad because of him.
