“Ha ha ha!” Nicolas burst into laughter as he saw Susan startled by his presence.
Susan pleaded, “Please, don’t turn me into a vampire! I’ll do anything you want, just don’t do that…”
With a cold expression, Nicolas replied, “What? Do you think life in this castle isn’t good enough?”
Susan shook her head. “The castle is beautiful, but I can’t spend my entire life here. I want to go out for a walk. Is that too much to ask?”
Nicolas frowned. “It’s already late. It’s dangerous for you to go out now.”
Susan responded, “Isn’t this entire area part of the Martin family’s territory? I’ll just take a walk nearby. Nothing will happen. You don’t need to follow me, but if you’re worried, you can send someone to watch over me.”
After a moment of hesitation, Nicolas nodded in agreement.
To him, the entire region was under his control. Susan was just an ordinary middle-aged woman with no real way of escaping his grasp, no matter where she went.
Relieved by his approval, Susan let out a quiet sigh. Her biggest wish was to leave the castle.
Only outside the castle could she avoid becoming a vampire. Whether she could escape or not was something she would figure out later.
Meanwhile, Chris and Serendipity were slowly approaching the castle.
Although Serendipity had warned Chris about the massive protective barrier surrounding the Martin family castle, Chris was determined to try.
He believed Susan was inside the castle and that he had to rescue her.
Just as Chris prepared to enter, the castle’s massive gates unexpectedly swung open.
From the shadows, Susan emerged.
Seeing her, Chris was stunned.
He wanted to rush to her, but the reality of being on Martin family territory held him back.
His mind raced with questions. Susan had been kidnapped-how was she now walking out of the castle?
But there was no doubt about it: the woman stepping out was Susan.
Once outside the castle, Susan exhaled deeply, relief washing over her.
Suddenly, she started to run.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
From the castle, several figures darted out in pursuit.
They were vampires.
These vampires followed Susan quietly, their movements swift and precise.
Seeing this, Chris’s brows furrowed.
Without hesitation, he began to follow.
Serendipity noticed Chris’s movement and quickly joined him.
Susan’s mind raced as she ran, thinking of ways to escape.
Whoosh!
Abruptly, a figure appeared, blocking her path.
Startled, Susan froze, her eyes widening in disbelief.
“You…”
She could hardly believe it. The man before her was none other than her son-in-law, Chris.
Chris smiled. “Mom, long time no see.”
“Chris?” Susan stammered. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to rescue you,” Chris answered calmly.
Realizing his intention, Susan’s anger flared.
“You’ve got some nerve!” she shouted. “If it weren’t for you provoking that demon, I wouldn’t have been kidnapped in the first place! You’re nothing but trouble, Chris! I moved all the way from the East Coast to Oxwoods to escape this mess, and yet here you are again, haunting me!”
Chris was momentarily stunned by her outburst.
Her words left him speechless.
After a moment, he let out a bitter chuckle.
It was the same Susan-no change, not even after two years.
“Mom,” Chris said helplessly, “let me take you back first, okay?”
Susan’s eyes narrowed as she caught sight of Chris’s hands.
“Chris, what happened to your hands?”
Chris avoided the question. “Mom, we’ll talk about that later.”
Just then, Susan noticed Serendipity standing nearby.
Her expression hardened. “And who is this? Chris, are you cheating on my daughter with this woman?”
Before Chris could respond, Serendipity scoffed. “Who am I? None of your business! Let me tell you, I’m his woman-”
“Shut up!” Chris roared, cutting her off.
Jokes aside, this was his mother-in-law. If word reached his wife, Esther, that he was involved with another woman while abroad, his life would be over.
Already burdened by his history of romantic entanglements, Chris knew Esther was barely tolerating him. If she found out about Serendipity, her jealousy would explode, and he’d never hear the end of it.
Susan’s anger reached its peak.
“Chris, you’d better explain this to me! I knew you were no good! You married my daughter and still fool around with other women. You’re nothing but a scumbag!”
“Mom, listen,” Chris tried to explain. “I just met her. We’re not close-”
Susan cut him off. “I don’t care what you have to say. I’ll tell my daughter everything, and you can explain yourself to her!”
Chris sighed in defeat, realizing that his troubles were far from over.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Suddenly, the sound of rushing air broke the conversation.
A group of figures surrounded them.
They were vampires from the Martin family, dressed in sleek black suits, their sharp fangs glinting menacingly.
Chris immediately recognized them as powerful vampires.
Susan’s face turned pale with fear.
She didn’t want to go back. She didn’t want to become a vampire.
She had barely escaped the castle, and now these vampires had already caught up to her.
“How did you find me?” Susan demanded.
One of the vampires sneered. “Did you really think Sovereign would let you go so easily? He marked you to lure your son-in-law, Chris, out into the open. Now, we’ll capture all of you. Come back with us quietly, or don’t blame us for being ruthless.”
Susan screamed, “No! I’m not going back! Chris, you’re Amerosia’s Primus, aren’t you? Save me!”
The vampire smirked darkly. “You’re not going back? That’s not up to you.”
With that, the vampires moved to seize them.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a figure stepped in front of Susan.
Boom!
A deafening crash echoed as one vampire was sent flying.
