Chapter 124: What Did Grace Say?

Book:It All Turns Out Great Published:2025-4-9

Thinking of Clara affectionately calling Daniel, Ethan’s expression turned grim.
Seeing Ethan’s increasingly dark face, Clara decided to give him a way out. “Honey.”
“From now on, always call me Honey,” Ethan said.
Clara hesitated, “Okay.”
“And remember… stay away from Daniel,” Ethan said seriously.
Clara glanced at him and asked, “Wouldn’t that be rude?”
Ethan remained silent, simply watching Clara.
Clara understood.
Ethan wanted her to be rude to Daniel.
“Got it,” Clara replied.
Only then did Ethan seem satisfied.
“Good girl,” Ethan said.
Ethan always talked to her like she was a child.
Now she realized, Ethan wasn’t looking for a wife; he wanted a puppet. Whatever he said was law, and she had to follow it obediently to please him.
Ugh!
“Let’s go inside; it’s hot outside… Look at you, your face is flushed,” Ethan said.
With that, Ethan went inside the house.
Clara obediently followed him.
Ethan had spoken, asking her to go inside.
Could she dare not go in?
If she didn’t, Ethan would say she wasn’t obedient again.
In the morning, Ethan and Clara got up together, washed up, and went downstairs for breakfast.
Grace watched Ethan and Clara.
She keenly sensed that the two had reconciled again.
Although they didn’t say much or converse, from their expressions and actions, she knew they were back on good terms.
Grace pursed her lips, her gaze obscure… She had been through it herself and knew couples often argue but make up quickly.
Ethan was still young and vigorous; if Clara took the initiative even a little… Ethan would find it hard to resist.
After breakfast, Ethan and Clara left for work. In the living room, Grace called out to Clara.
“Clara, wait… I have something to say to you.”
Both Ethan and Clara stopped.
They looked at Grace.
Grace said to Ethan, “Ethan, you should go to work first.”
“Why can’t you say it in front of me?” Ethan asked.
Grace replied, “It’s a conversation between women… You go ahead.”
Ethan glanced at Grace and then at Clara.
Clara gave him a subtle nod.
Ethan turned and left.
Grace naturally noticed their interaction.
It made her furious.
Now… Ethan wouldn’t even listen to her but would listen to Clara instead.
How long has it been?
In the future, would she still have a place in this home?
Clara looked at Grace. She knew Grace was likely about to lecture her on something, but… she wasn’t afraid.
At most, Grace would say a few words, and she’d just listen.
Grace certainly wouldn’t hit her, right?
“Clara…” Grace looked at Clara and said calmly, “I didn’t want to say anything to you initially, but you’re too reckless.”
Clara looked at Grace in confusion.
What had she done now to be considered reckless?
“I know you and Ethan are still young and inevitably impulsive, but precisely because you’re young, you need restraint,” Grace said.
Young?
Impulsive?
Restraint?
Clara blushed; she seemed to understand what Grace wanted to say.
She never imagined Grace would come to her with such matters… She had seen on TV where mothers-in-law meddle in their sons’ marital affairs, thinking it exaggerated… But now she encountered it herself.
Indeed, television reflects life.
“You and Ethan… shouldn’t be noisy every night. Ethan is busy with work every day and still has to accompany you at night… Aren’t you worried about his health?” Grace said with a frown.
Clara wanted to tell Grace not to worry about her son’s health at all.
He’s as strong as an ox, perfectly healthy.
Even better than her.
She’s seven years younger than Ethan, yet her health is far worse than his.
And how did Grace know they were noisy every night?
Was Grace eavesdropping outside their door every night?
That… couldn’t be possible.
Grace couldn’t be that strange, right?
The thought of Grace possibly eavesdropping outside while she and Ethan were intimate made Clara feel uncomfortable, as if her privacy was being invaded.
“Why aren’t you speaking?” Grace frowned in displeasure at Clara. “Do you think I’m meddling too much?”
“No,” Clara said with a blush. “Mom, I understand.”
Grace said discontentedly, “Don’t just brush me off. It’s not enough to understand; you must act on it.”
Clara nodded earnestly and firmly. “Yes, I understand, Mom. Don’t worry; I will definitely do it.”
Grace looked at Clara.
Alright!
Since Clara promised to act on it, she’d temporarily believe her.
Anyway… if Clara failed to do so, she’d have more reason to target her.
A daughter-in-law who couldn’t keep promises made to elders-what kind of good daughter-in-law was that?
Someone who breaks promises isn’t worthy of her son.
“Go ahead,” Grace said coldly.
Clara nodded and left.
Outside, she found Ethan hadn’t left yet; he was waiting for her in the car.
She hurried over.
Clara got into the car.
Ethan looked at Clara and asked, “What did Mom say to you?”
Clara blushed and glanced ahead; there was a driver present. She couldn’t bring herself to discuss such embarrassing matters in front of a third person.
“Nothing much,” Clara replied.
Ethan noticed Clara’s flushed cheeks and raised an eyebrow… He grew more curious about what his mother had said to Clara that made her blush when mentioning it.
He thought his mom had stayed behind to educate Clara.
Apparently not…
Curious indeed.
At the company, Ethan and Clara entered the elevator together. It was the executive elevator; only they were inside now.
Clara glanced at Ethan and said, “Mom said…”
Ethan looked at Clara.
Didn’t she say nothing much earlier?
Now she’s ready to talk?
Ethan quietly waited for Clara’s continuation.
“She said… we should restrain ourselves from having too much sex… She mentioned you’re busy with work during the day and tired… She told me not to cling to you at night,” Clara said with a blush.
Ethan was taken aback for a moment.
Clearly surprised that his mom would say such things to Clara.
Was Mom planning to meddle in his bedroom affairs?
Even interfering with his marital life?
Ha…
Her controlling nature remained as strong as ever.
Everything had to be under her control, including the son she bore and the son’s marriage.
