Chapter 27: Give Her a Little Dignity

Book:It All Turns Out Great Published:2025-4-9

If she called Ethan out and he didn’t show up, it would be so embarrassing.
She had her pride too.
“No need,” Clara said. “He’s very busy with work.”
Jason laughed. “No matter how busy he is, he still needs to eat, and he should spend time with you.”
She glanced at Jason. He acted like he was very familiar with Ethan. If he was so familiar, he couldn’t possibly not know about her and Ethan’s situation.
He might not know that her sister had cheated on Ethan, but he definitely knew she had married Ethan in her sister’s place.
Did Jason not understand the nature of her relationship with Ethan?
Was he trying to embarrass her by making her call Ethan out?
But she had no grudge against Jason. Why would he want to see her embarrassed?
If Jason didn’t want to see her embarrassed, why was he asking her to call Ethan out?
“Clara?” Jason looked at her through the rearview mirror and smiled. “What? Worried that Ethan won’t come out?”
She looked at Jason.
She sensed malice in his words.
Though he wore a handsome smile, his words clearly mocked her.
He was mocking her, implying she had no place in Ethan’s heart and that Ethan wouldn’t come out if she called him.
Clara was angry. She really wanted to call Ethan right now, show off their relationship in front of them, and slap their faces hard.
But she didn’t dare.
What if Ethan didn’t come out? Wouldn’t that be even more embarrassing for her?
“Really?” Ella turned around and smiled at Clara. “You’re his wife. If you call him, he won’t come?”
She looked at Ella.
Didn’t Ella know whether Ethan would come or not?
What was she trying to do?
Provocation?
Was she deliberately provoking her to call Ethan so they could laugh at her when he didn’t come?
Clara didn’t want to think ill of her roommate.
But Ella’s words made it hard not to.
“No way,” Zoe said to Clara. “Even though your marriage was sudden, we can see that Ethan cares about you.”
Clara glanced at Zoe. She didn’t feel comforted.
Zoe and the others had only seen Ethan once, just last night…
And then they saw Ethan having a romantic candlelight dinner with another woman.
How did Zoe see that Ethan cared about her?
Clara felt they just wanted to see her embarrassed.
Maybe they wanted to know that even though she married into a top family, her husband didn’t love or care about her, and she wasn’t as happy as it seemed.
“Clara,” Jason suddenly smiled and asked, “Actually, we’ve always been curious. Wasn’t Ethan always dating your sister Iris? How did he suddenly marry you?”
“Yes, Clara, we’re really curious too,” Zoe said.
Ella and Ava nodded.
Clara looked at Jason and the others.
She suddenly understood.
Jason pretended to be very familiar with Ethan and wanted to call him out.
But he didn’t even know why she married Ethan in place of her sister.
Her sister’s affair with Alexander wasn’t widely known, but those who needed to know knew that Iris had angered Ethan by cheating on him.
But several days had passed, and Jason still didn’t know. So maybe… Jason’s relationship with Ethan wasn’t as good as he made it seem.
Or maybe… Jason was deliberately asking to embarrass her.
Clara smiled at Jason. “You call my husband out and let him tell you himself.”
She wanted to see if Jason could get Ethan to come out.
Although she didn’t know Ethan well, she sensed that he wasn’t easy to call out. He didn’t seem like someone who would bother with people he wasn’t close to unless it was something important.
She bet Jason couldn’t get Ethan to come out.
Jason was stunned for a moment, his smile stiffening.
Call Ethan?
He did have Ethan’s number, but they weren’t close. Though they were in the same circle, Jason was a rich kid who only knew how to eat, drink, and play, unlike the hardworking business elite Ethan. Their personalities and pursuits were different, so they didn’t have much interaction.
They could say they knew each other and would greet each other when they met, but that was about it.
But now Clara had said this… and he had suggested calling Ethan out himself.
In front of the girls, he didn’t want to lose face.
“Okay,” Jason said with a smile. “I’ll call Ethan out.”
Jason called Ethan.
One hand on the steering wheel, the other searching for Ethan’s name on his phone. He quickly found it and dialed the number.
Because his phone was connected to the car’s Bluetooth, everyone in the car could hear it.
The phone rang a few times before the other side picked up.
“Hello…”
Ethan’s magnetic voice came through the speaker.
“Ethan, it’s me, Jason,” Jason said with a smile.
Ethan’s voice was cool and clear. “What’s up?”
“Well, I’m having dinner with Clara and the others. Do you want to join us?” Jason asked with a smile.
Clara suddenly felt very nervous.
She hadn’t expected Jason to use her as a pawn.
If Ethan didn’t come, wouldn’t she be very embarrassed?
There was silence on the other end for two seconds before Ethan said, “Where?”
Jason breathed a sigh of relief. He was actually afraid of being rejected.
“We’re going to Chan’s Bistro,” Jason said.
Ethan: “Okay.”
Hearing Ethan’s agreement, Clara quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
She was really afraid of being rejected.
Although she was just a tool for revenge against the Everett family… even tools wanted some dignity.
Fortunately, Ethan had some decency and was willing to give this innocent tool a bit of face.
“See you at Chan’s Bistro then.”
“Okay.”
Ethan hung up the phone.
“See?” Zoe smiled at Clara. “Your husband does care about you.”
Ava nodded beside her. “Yes, Clara. I could tell Mr. Logan didn’t want to come at first, but when he heard you were there, he agreed.”
Is that really so?
Did Ethan come because of her?
Clara didn’t think so.
Ethan just wanted to give her some face as a tool.
Or maybe… Ethan just wanted to eat at Chan’s Bistro?
He asked where they were going.
Jason said Chan’s Bistro, and then Ethan agreed to come.
If they weren’t going to Chan’s Bistro but somewhere else, maybe Ethan wouldn’t have agreed to come.
Chan’s Bistro was a very upscale restaurant.
A few minutes after Clara and the others arrived, Ethan showed up.
There were no private rooms available; they sat in the main hall. Though it was an upscale restaurant, it was still bustling during meal times with waiters and various guests moving around.
As soon as Ethan walked in from the main entrance, Clara saw him.
He wore an ordinary black suit and white shirt, but standing there, he was the focus of attention. He drew everyone’s eyes.
Ethan stood at the entrance, glanced around, and saw Clara immediately.
And Clara was looking at him too.
The moment their eyes met, Clara quickly looked away as if caught doing something wrong, blushing from her face down to her neck.
Ethan raised an eyebrow.
The little girl was clearly looking at him but avoided his gaze as soon as their eyes met.
Ethan walked towards Clara.
Jason saw Ethan and greeted him with a smile.
“Ethan, you’re here.”
“Yeah,” Ethan nodded lightly.
Jason led Ethan to their table.
“Ethan, have a seat.” Jason pulled out a chair for him.
Ethan sat down gracefully next to Clara.
Clara looked at Ethan, still blushing.
