Chapter 20: The Girl Has Two Faces

Watching Clara silently weeping with her head down, Ethan felt a headache coming on.
He rarely encountered such situations.
Like most men, he was at a loss when faced with a woman’s tears.
Comfort her?
Ethan imagined scenes from TV dramas where a woman cried, and the man would hold her gently, whispering sweet nothings like “Don’t cry, my dear, it breaks my heart to see you cry.” He simply couldn’t do or say such things.
“Stop crying,” Ethan said with a frown.
Clara looked up, her face streaked with tears. Seeing Ethan’s frown made her feel even more aggrieved. She was so heartbroken, yet he didn’t comfort her and even looked annoyed.
Clara pressed her lips together, took a deep breath, and wiped her tears with the back of her hand. Why was she playing along with him? Why was she crying in front of him? He must be feeling quite pleased seeing her so upset.
Determined, Clara dried her tears, put on a cold face, and went into the bathroom.
So obedient?
She stopped crying just because he told her to?
How different she was from the women he understood.
Ethan wasn’t very interested in women. To him, they were merely for procreation and occasional desire. Therefore, he saw no need to understand them. Most of his knowledge about women came from friends’ stories or TV dramas.
The women described by his friends and those on TV were similar: unreasonable, prone to crying, inexplicably angry, and making a big fuss over small matters.
But in the few days since marrying Clara, he found she was different from the women he had in mind.
If another woman had been suddenly substituted to marry her sister’s fiance, she would have panicked and made a scene. But Clara married quietly, without crying or making unreasonable demands. She remained quiet after the marriage as well.
Although she was different from his impression of women, it was quite good this way.
He wasn’t a very patient man and didn’t want to spend a lot of time and energy coaxing a woman.
In the bathroom, Clara looked at her red eyes and nose in the mirror and sighed softly. Ethan seemed to dislike her. When she cried just now, not only did he not comfort her, but he also looked impatient.
Yes, that’s right. Let him dislike her more and more.
Soon enough, he would detest her.
Clara washed her face. Although she had never had a boyfriend, she wasn’t completely clueless. She knew what men feared.
Men feared unreasonable women the most.
Clara tidied herself up, lifted her head high like a warrior, and walked out of the bathroom. There was a tough battle ahead.
Ethan was sitting on the sofa playing with his phone.
Seeing his nonchalant demeanor made Clara angry. She took a deep breath, crossed her arms, raised her chin slightly, and questioned Ethan with an air of pride and superiority: “I don’t care what your relationship with Belle is, but from now on, you are not allowed to see her.”
Ethan looked up at Clara and frowned slightly.
Not see Belle?
For Ethan, it wasn’t difficult. Although their company had collaborations with the Dean family and maintained good relations, he could avoid someone if he wanted to.
But… they had only been married for a few days, and this little girl dared to command him?
When they first got married, she was gentle and obedient. She didn’t dare contradict him or go against his wishes.
Ha, this little girl had two faces indeed.
“What if I insist on seeing her?” Ethan asked calmly.
“Do you like her?” Clara asked angrily, frowning.
Ethan smiled and said, “If I really liked Belle, do you think there would be anything for your Everett family? Anything for your sister? Anything for you?”
Clara was at a loss for words.
Indeed, if Ethan liked Belle, he could have married Belle. Belle’s family background was much stronger than the Everett family’s. A marriage between Logan Group and Dean Group would be a powerful alliance.
Clara pursed her lips and glared at Ethan discontentedly: “If you don’t like her, why do you still want to see her?”
Ethan thought this little girl’s courage was growing. She even dared to glare at him.
But honestly, when she glared at him with those round eyes, she looked quite cute.
“Just because I see her doesn’t mean I like her. I meet many women for work every day; does that mean I like them all?” Ethan asked with a smile.
Clara looked at Ethan’s indifferent smile and felt infuriated.
She knew that Ethan’s smile wasn’t because he was happy.
He was teasing her.
He didn’t take her seriously, treating her emotions like a game for his amusement.
“But you know Belle likes you,” Clara said.
