The rest of the night is kind of uneventful until the question of leaving comes up. I lean toward Adrianna. “You won’t be leaving with Oak, do you understand? Tell them you’ll stay with me and Bly.”
Her nostrils flare. “Or what?”
“It’s a silly question, you know what?”
She sighs heavily.
“Adrianna, are you ready to go?” Azira asks.
Adrianna shakes her head. “No, I think I’ll stay a bit longer. You guys go ahead and I’ll get a cab back with Professor Luigi and Coach.
Eva looks confused by Adrianna’s refusal to head back to the academy. “Are you sure?”
She nods. “Yeah, I’ll finish up my drink and head back with these guys.”
“Okay, see you tomorrow then?” Azira says.
“Yeah, see you tomorrow.”
Oak, Eva, and Azira leave. Blaine looks a little irritated being left here with me and Adrianna as he watches the other three leave.
A tense silence falls between us. After a few minutes, Bly stands. “Well, this is thrilling,” he says, “But I’ve got to admit I’ve had enough fun for one night.”
Adrianna tips the contents of her drink back. “I think I’ll go back with you.”
I grab her wrist and yank her back down. “No, we’ll go back together in a moment.”
Bly gets the hint. “Right, I’ve got some unfinished business to attend to in town before I head back, anyway.” He leaves us alone in the bar.
Adrianna glares at me hatefully. “You’re a real asshole, you know?”
“If you think I’m an asshole now, wait until later.” I glance at my watch. “Shall I order the Uber, or do you want to?”
Adrianna looks beyond frustrated. “I don’t care. I want to get back to the dorms.”
I pull out my phone and book the Uber for ten minute time. “That’s not happening tonight.”
Her body stiffens with tension. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, you’re coming back to mine and it’s non-negotiable.”
“But, I-”
I press my lips to hers, silencing whatever bullshit excuse she was about to come up with.
Tonight is the night I intend to tear away Adrianna’s so called innocence. She’ll be screaming my name all night long, and I don’t care what I have to do to make it happen.
My phone dings, informing me the driver is outside. “That was quick.” I grab her wrist, yanking her to her feet. “Come on, our ride is here.”
Keeping hold of her wrist, I lead her out onto the sidewalk. The driver is parked right out front, so I open the back door for her to get in.
She stares at the back of the cab for a while, hesitating.
“Come on, we haven’t got all night.”
Adrianna relents and gets into the back of the cab, and I slide in next to her, placing my hand on her thigh. Anticipation sending tingles down my spine as the car moves toward the academy.
