Peterson’s POV.
“I know you are still angry about Liam’s death but he is dead now, Peterson, and you know what?” She paused for a while as he looked at me, reducing the pace at which she was driving now.
“Liam is gone and there is absolutely nothing you or anyone else can do to bring him back to life. He is already decomposing by now. It’s been months already, Peterson, accept that!!” She whimpered as tears swelled up in her eyes.
“And you want to know my answer to your question earlier? I miss him and if I could bring his killers behind bars, then I would happily do that but for now? We have a Collins’ issue to take care of so that we don’t end up getting the faction infiltrated by another faction and if you keep going after Liam’s killer, you might be the loophole they would use to break our faction apart!!” Helen muttered as her tears rolled down her cheeks.
Without saying a single word again, she turned back to the road as she increased the pace at which she was driving, causing me to relapse on the passenger’s seat as I had flashbacks of Liam and the moments we shared together.
We finally got to my apartment as she parked in the parking lot as she looked at me.
“There is no way I am going to let you go back tonight.” I shrugged as we remained in the car.
“There’s a vacant room. You could use that for the night. I guess I will just have to manage my room with Elizabeth.” I said with a broad smile.
“Elizabeth Humphrey?” Helen chucked softly. “She’s in there?” She laughed light-heartedly.
“Oh yes, Helen. And she will be staying for the weekend too. Guess it will be a long night as well as a long weekend.” I chuckled as I looked right into her eyes.
“Okay then. I’ll stay over!!” She said, breaking the few minutes of silence that came between us.
I shut my eyes for a while as I exhaled heavily before we got down from my car.
***Logan’s POV***
I heard a creaking sound and what followed next was my door whirring open.
I raised my head as I turned to see who it was. “Father?” I shrugged as I sat upright on my bed.
“Sleeping already?” He questioned as he remained outside my room.
“You can come in.” I responded as I looked at him. “I was far from even having a peaceful sleep.” I scoffed as I looked at him as he walked inside my room.
“Are you okay? I guess you kids must be tensed up already considering the meeting we had earlier today.” He said in a deep voice as he looked at me.
“Not so, father!” I said in defense as I raised my eyebrows. “I am doing perfectly fine. And the rest of us, we are perfectly fine, father!!” I shrugged as I raised my eyebrows.
“You guys should know better and if we take Collins Morgan off our tails, then why argue about that?” I chuckled softly as I looked at him.
“What else do you know about Collins Morgan’s return to New Kingston? Why is he back? And, why is he that interested in you? Jayson briefed me, this? This wasn’t any fall, Collins attacked you.” He snapped as he looked at me.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. “Such a dick!!” I cursed within as I heard he had told my father about Collins’ attack.
“I am fine, father. You don’t have to worry about that. He is just angry. Nothing more than that, paranoia.” I said as I wore a convincing smile as I kept staring at him.
“If you say so, Logan.” He muttered as he got up from my bed to leave.
“But…”
I snapped, stopping halfway as I refrained as he turned around.
“But?”
He asked as he raised his eyebrows.
“Do you have anything to say to me, Logan?” He questioned as he wore a straight face.
“Umm… Nothing of importance.” I stuttered as I looked at him.
He nodded his head to leave but then, I still couldn’t help the curiosity digging deep down into me.
“What did Peterson mean by the faction?” I finally asked and it was just like he froze there immediately.
He stood there like a statute for a few seconds before turning around as he looked at me.
He furrowed his eyebrows as he stared right inside my eyes like he was reading through my mind right now to get the answers he wanted as a result of my sudden question.
I looked away before turning back to him again as I looked at me.
“I just had to ask. How come I knew absolutely nothing about it?” I questioned as I looked at him.
“Well, you shouldn’t get worked up by it. It’s nothing of importance and sometimes, some things ought to remain dead.” He shrugged as he looked at me as he forced out a broad smile on his face.
“Some things ought to remain dead? Oh, come on, father!!” I scowled as I got up. “You know someday I will be the Alpha of this pack and maybe, the supreme Alpha of the committee of werewolves. So, don’t you think I need to know about the faction?” I said as I smiled one-sided as I looked at him.
“Oh, don’t go there. There will be no need for that. The faction is already going extinct and when we die, it dies with us.” He paused as he raised his eyebrows. “That will give you and the generations to come a clean start.” He smiled as he looked at me.
“And you think that?” I scoffed. “I could hear the certainty in Peterson’s voice. Liam also knew about the faction as well, so why can’t I? Why can’t I know about the faction, father!?” I argued as I looked at him.
He kept staring at me without saying a single word, making me groan bitterly inwardly as I kept looking at his straight face.
