Ethan’s P. O. V
“Something’s off with Claire. I’ll leave her with you, Danny. I’ll be watching you guys from a distance.” That’s what I told Danny before handing my black card to Claire. At first, I didn’t care if Claire got dragged by Christopher Gale or not, but now, knowing my feelings for her have changed, I’m rethinking handing her over to that fake Alpha.
They’ve been roaming the city for half an hour, but I haven’t received any reports from Danny, which worries me. Since Claire’s first encounter with Christopher Gale, the man has shown a murderous intent, as if he wouldn’t let anyone touch his long-targeted prey.
Of course, Christopher Gale’s hunt is a life-or-death matter because Claire is the last descendant of the former Alpha of The Moon Fall Pack. Ensuring Claire’s death is his final goal for eternal power. But as long as I’m alive, I’ll make sure Christopher Gale can’t touch my Luna.
“What am I even doing?” I muttered, covering my face with the back of my hand. I was alone in the car I was driving, having sent away the people who were supposed to guard me. I forced them to follow Danny’s car secretly while I worried about them.
I’ve never done this for Lucy. If I had to compare, maybe Lucy and Claire are the same person with different personalities and territories. While Lucy had the protection of everyone working for her father, Claire took care of herself, and the deaths of the nuns and orphans seemed to be a turning point in her life.
She’s unstable, weak, and easily manipulated. I believe that, but I won’t let Christopher Gale be the one to do it. But damn, I slipped up. The fake Alpha has already done what he needed to do amidst Claire’s instability.
Losing Claire at the night market in Shanghai seems to have changed her calm personality. Claire is like a little lamb needing a shepherd, and that bastard wolf played his role well. He turned the little lamb I let be for a few months into a slightly naughty and curious one.
And if her curiosity grows bigger than I imagined, she might soon go to The Moon Fall Pack to kill him, joining the fake Alpha. My phone rang; it was Danny. He sent some photos of Claire eating street food she bought from vendors. An action I didn’t ask for but was given freely.
Danny might know I’ve started liking Claire because I keep delaying handing her over to Christopher Gale. And my phone rang while I was thinking about all this; it was Danny. I quickly answered the call, hearing Danny’s whisper amidst the crowd.
“What do you want to report?” I asked.
“As you suspected, she keeps asking about Christopher Gale,” Danny said.
“What else does she want to know?”
“She keeps asking why your relationship with him is bad. And I think there will be more questions from her after she finishes eating.”
I was silent. It felt like I was playing tug-of-war. If I keep trying to win, I’ll have to pull the rope alone until I’m hurt. Should I let go and let Claire know everything about Christopher Gale?
No. If I do that, she’ll know I’m also using her for the power I want.
“You might want to listen to me this time, Alpha,” Danny’s voice snapped me out of my reverie. “Lady Halle is too curious, and I can’t tell her everything, but I also can’t let you be the worst in her eyes.”
“So what exactly are you suggesting?”
“To avoid damaging Lady Halle’s mental state and the possibility of war in our Pack, I think we should let Christopher Gale himself give her all the information she wants.”
I frowned. I was angry, and if Danny were here now, I’d punch his face. But would that be effective? Considering it wasn’t just Christopher Gale who contributed to Claire’s parents’ death.
“After eating, take her to the hotel. I don’t want her wandering further,” I ordered.
“That will be a bit difficult because she’s walking away from me now. Sorry, but I have to hang up.”
“Danny! Dann-”
Damn it! Danny suddenly hung up before I finished talking. I threw my phone onto the passenger seat, feeling crazy! I should have handed her over sooner than planned. If I had given Claire to Christopher Gale, I wouldn’t be haunted by these strange feelings now.
I ran my fingers through my hair, staring blankly at the street filled with vehicles and people speaking a language I didn’t understand.
Knock… knock…
Someone knocked on my side window. I didn’t recognize them, so I didn’t immediately roll down my window. But from their scent, I knew they were wolves.
“Alpha Christopher wants to meet you, Alpha Ethan.”
Christopher Gale? This is out of control. How did he know I came to the Philippines like this? Who leaked my work secret to others when only Danny and Chen Lien, who were doing other tasks I assigned, knew I came here?
“I don’t accept invitations from people who come just to spy on me,” I said.
“Our Alpha doesn’t accept refusals either. Please cooperate, Alpha Ethan.”
I frowned. This was open coercion and assault. I had no one by my side; all the Warriors I brought with me were ordered to follow Danny and guard Claire. With such good protection, I didn’t expect to be the target of this fake Alpha.
“Tell him to meet me at Frankruurte Restaurant in an hour.”
“Our Alpha won’t like this.”
“Then what will you do if I don’t like your Alpha’s way of forcing a meeting with me, treating me like I’m his subordinate? Have you forgotten that I’m also an Alpha? I can declare war on The Moon Fall Pack anytime I want with your disrespectful attitude.”
Hearing me say that, the Warrior looked scared. He stepped back a few steps from my car window. From the cabin mirror, I saw a Rolls-Royce parked right behind my car. I knew it was Christopher Gale’s car. But I didn’t care; I was more concerned about Claire’s safety at the moment.
Right. Maybe Danny being with Claire now is the perfect way to keep Christopher Gale away from her.
After saying that, I immediately left, going in the opposite direction from where Claire was. Besides, I also contacted Danny to stay in the crowd; I didn’t want him to be captured by that bastard.
