I gazed out the window as I swirled the wine in my glass. Though not huge, the backyard was well-kept, and the spring flowers I had requested a while back were now in full bloom.
The sun was starting to dip, casting a reddish mauve hue that brought a sense of calm I had missed after being away from this place for months.
While I savoured the sunset with my glass of wine, I suddenly felt a gentle touch on my back. A pair of slender fingers adorned with beautifully polished nails brushed against me.
Those fingers didn’t just stop there; they began to trace around my waist, and then I felt a warm kiss on my back. I knew exactly who it was, but I didn’t turn around. Instead, I stayed lost in the moment, enjoying the embrace and the familiar scent, all while sipping my wine.
As those hands started to slide down to my waist, I quickly took hold of her hand, giving it a few gentle strokes until I could tell she was definitely playing with me.
“Is she already in her room?”
“Yep, and she really liked it.”
“Seriously? Should I help you find a new room like mine?” I tried to charm her. She just shook her head behind me and planted another kiss on my back.
I didn’t mind what she was up to; that’s how we roll when we’re together. Lucy and I hardly ever stop touching when we’re around each other.
Feeling all the excitement from her kisses, I turned to face her so close that our lips met, and we kissed.
“I missed you,” I said to Lucy, who smiled when she looked me in the eye, but she shook her head.
“But I don’t.”
“Hey, what’s the matter?”
“Because you’ve spent the night with her. There’s no way you still love me.”
“The one night I missed with her was nothing compared to what I’ve spent with you over the past few years. You can never be replaced by her presence.”
“Because she’s your Luna?”
I gave a light smile and wrapped my arms around his waist, handing him the wine I had been sipping and encouraging him to drink. Then, we shared another kiss.
“It’s just a gesture. It won’t change anything because you’re the one I want.”
“Should I act like a jerk towards you?”
“That’s not needed; it’s just part of who I am,” I replied, trying to ease her worries. “Honestly, meeting her was just a fluke. I didn’t plan on it, but it felt like I had to sort things out with Christopher Gale soon.”
“He openly killed those sisters in that dorm. Maybe her spirit, Luna, has moved on, and you’re the only one left. Do you want to acknowledge her as your Luna or not?”
“Acknowledge her as Luna? Are you serious?” I chuckled sarcastically, a laugh escaping me while Lucy kept her eyes locked on mine, waiting for my response.
“Why would I joke around with you?” Lucy shot back just as I was about to say more. “You two are meant to be together; the Moon Goddess made it that way. You can’t just run from your destiny, right? Are you really going to do that for me?”
To ease her irritation, I pulled her in for another hug and kissed her deeply, our tongues dancing together. I could taste the sweetness of her pheromones, constantly igniting a spark in me.
“I’ll turn her down as soon as I get what Christopher Gale promised me,” I told him.
“Are you convinced he’d give it to someone like her?”
“Claire Halle is a priceless key to the full power she craves. Without Claire, she’ll never have it. That’s why they took out the sisters and orphans in the dorm. They want to break her spirit until she’s left with nothing but death.”
Lucy released my arm and strolled over to the table. She poured herself a glass of wine and downed it in one go. “So why didn’t you hand Claire over to them that night and bring her to this Pack instead?” she pressed again.
Lucy was really digging into me.
It’s significantly amusing when I think about it since I jumped in to protect Claire that night. Maybe Lucy has a point-why didn’t I give Claire to them and then work out the deal for everything Christopher Gale promised me?
But there was this wild thought in my head, and Claire being around made it impossible not to bring her into this Pack. It pushed back my long-awaited deal with Christopher Gale. I can already tell that after this, that crazy Alpha will mess with my business, hurt my people, and cost me a lot of cash.
This is wild. But yeah, I ended up taking Claire out of the picture. I’m okay with her hanging around for a bit, even if it means my crew takes some hits, and I lose a few hundred million bucks, as long as I can reach my bigger goal.
“Her energy is powerful enough for me. I need it to get more than what Christopher Gale promised.”
“So, you plan on keeping her around for a while?”
“I have to,” I said, acting like I had no other option.
Lucy topped off her wine glass. I could see she was fuming, but I had no clue what to say to ease her mind. After all, being under the same roof with someone who was meant for me by the Moon Goddess was bound to make Lucy feel a bit jealous.
I’m not going to push you to change your mind. But I hope she’s taking fewer meds in what you’re doing now or in the future. I can’t stand it when that woman roams around this place like she owns it, Lucy said, taking another sip of her wine.
I could see the annoyance in her eyes, but I didn’t want to stir the pot too much. So, I just smiled behind my glass and sipped my wine slowly. After a moment, I walked over to Lucy, wrapped my arms around her, and kissed her neck, inhaling her irresistible scent. Just as I was getting lost in it, she spoke up again.
“Seriously, you must turn her down and make me your Luna.”
