Let’s be hopeful
Mary Davies
I noticed Tiffany stopped eating all of a sudden and she became quiet. She walked up to me and insisted I carried her which I found really strange. I scooped her into my hands, holding her tightly to my chest.
“Mum, I’m scared.” She whispered, wrapping her hands around my neck tightly. Suddenly the doorbell rang. Hawk left about three hours ago, is he back already.
“Daddy.” Bryan said excitedly, he followed behind as I walked towards the door. I peeped through the door hole to find Xander at the door, how did he even get in. I opened the door widely and he stepped in. I couldn’t help but notice the worry lines on his forehead
“Pack your things Mary, we are leaving.” He said hurriedly.
“What! What is going on?” I asked, he didn’t even look happy to see me or the kids, this was obviously the first time he was seeing the kids but the only thing he was bothered about is me packing our things.
“This is not the time to spam me with questions, please just do as I say.” He replied abruptly, I couldn’t decipher what was wrong with him so I kept mute. Whatever might be going through his mind must be taking a great toll on him.
I remembered Hawk telling me he was here in Miranda with their mum. Maybe Hawk told him to come and get us, but he would have called me to let me know of this situation, I pushed my hands into my pocket to bring out my phone, maybe I missed his call or message.
“I want my daddy.” Bryan whined as he sucked on his thumb. I patted him on his back gently, I just wasn’t ready for his tantrums.
“Hawk told me to come and get you. You don’t have to worry or be scared. I guess he has told you about me already.” Xander said. I nodded my head in response as I returned my phone back into my pocket. There was nothing much to pack since the majority of our things were still inside our suitcases.
I hurried towards Hawk’s room and Xander followed behind, he helped in moving the suitcases out of the room. The silence between us was creepy, it was like he was doing this because he was trying to hide something from me. Who does not know Xander, he talks a lot on a normal day, now that he was keeping quiet. It only made me wonder what might be going wrong with him.
“Are you okay?” I asked as he fixed the car seats of the twins into his car. The twins were quite too which was unusual.
“Yes,” he replied blantly. He made sure to lock up Hawk’s house and I noticed he changed the password. I didn’t say anything, even as we got into the car and he drove off. Something was wrong I knew it, and the mere thought of it was making me antsy. I found it hard to stay calm and relaxed.

Xander took us directly to his home. I found out he and Jemima have been dating for years now. And most importantly she has totally changed in looks and behavior, she was heavily pregnant and would be due in a few days time. She was so happy to see me and the kids, but I couldn’t help but notice the look of pity on her face.
Meeting Hawk’s mother, Carol made me feel giddy. She hugged me so tightly and kept apologizing for the wrong her son did to me in the past. She kept insisting the fault was hers.
She was crying as she hugged her grandchildren. I sniffed back the tears threatening to fall.
“There is a problem,” she cried out softly. That made me alerted immediately. Jemima and Xander excused us taking the kids out with them, Xander came back inside the room alone within a few minutes.
“Hawk got into a fatal accident today, his car was rammed over by another car belonging to the lady his father was forcing on him. I actually can’t explain what really happened, but I am sure it was intentional.”
“The lady didn’t survive the crash. It was said that she died on the spot.”
My heart began to beat fast, Taylor Mcgregor was dead, like truly dead. I covered my mouth in shock as I gasped loudly with my eyes wide opened. The fact that I saw this lady few hours ago and now I am hearing she is already dead, is this the way people die. One minute you see someone and later on you hear they are gone. I know I shouldn’t be feeling bad for her family but I’m human, it’s totally wrong to celebrate her death. Too bad she won’t be able to fulfill her threats, at least my kids are in safe hands, she won’t even be able to harm them ever again.
A sound came out of my throat in form of a sob as my mind immediately went to Hawk Andrews. I should be thinking about him and not Taylor Mcgregor. My palms became sweaty immediately and I became absolutely worried. I was expecting Carol to say something about Hawk, but it seems like she was holding back. Xander has been quite since he came back inside. That made me worried and anxious to find out what was truly going wrong.
“What about Hawk? Is he fine? Did something happen to him?” I asked, but none of them replied. I looked at both of them, expecting one of them to break whatever happened to me. But their silence made me just assume he was dead already.
“Why is it that everything keeps going wrong for me.” I cried out, Hawk Andrews was dead too.
“Hawk is alive, but he’s currently battling for his life right now. He’s in the emergency room, he had a fatal head injury, but the doctors are attending to him. Let’s just be hopeful that he gets fine and doesn’t fall into a prolonged coma.”
Warm splashy tears began to roll down my cheeks, I didn’t even get the chance to tell him how I feel. What if he doesn’t survive, I just want to get a chance to tell him how I feel.
“Which hospital is he, can I go and see him right now? I need to be there for him.” I rushed out.
“I am sorry Mary, but only his families are allowed to be around him. It will be hard to get you into the hospital, but let’s just hope for the best.”
“But, I am part of his family too. His kids….. and…. I… are…. are… are….. pa… rt… pa… rt…. o… o…. of.” I stammered.
“I promise we will go and see him together as soon as possible. But not now when things are not looking good. I am very sure Hawk is going to survive this, he is a fighter. He can fight this.” Carol said pulling me into her arms. But I couldn’t just stop crying, he has always been there for me, even though he did it all in another identity. But now that I want to be there for him, I can’t because I am not part of his family yet. I am sure this was one of Taylor’s threat coming into limelight, too bad I won’t be able to take my revenge because she’s dead.
