Nathan’s POV
Eve was back immediately the teacher left. “Aren’t you excited about the trip? There is so much we can get done.”
I snorted. So much like what? The girl was too strange for my liking. I had been focused on the dangers of the school trip and didn’t remember that Eve was here until she popped her unwanted face again.
She turned to Melody, ignoring my snort. “How does your head feel now? Have you taken the drug?” She asked.
“Yes, my head feels better now. Thank you.”
“You used the drug?” Eve asked, confirming she had heard right.
“Yes.” Melody lied. The drug was on the ground, under her shoe.
“I didn’t see you take it.”
“Were you watching her?” I frowned.
“I was worried about her.” Eve replied.
“I took it immediately you turned your back and walked back to your seat. I slipped it into my mouth then.”
Eve stared at Melody for a long time, looking as if she didn’t believe her. Eventually, she nodded to herself and walked back to her seat without a word.
I frowned. “You should avoid that girl. She is strange.” I said to Melody, leaning forward in my seat to whisper in her ear.
She chuckled and turned to look at me. “What? You are psychic now because your mum is one? Is that how it works? Does it run in the family?”
I let out a sigh and shook my head. I knew she wasn’t going to believe us. I shared an exasperated look with Nick who shook his head as well. The teacher who was in charge of the first lesson we had for the day walked in, silencing anything I could have said back as a retort.
As expected, the adults weren’t excited about the school trip when we got home and told them. It was open that anyone of the students could get hurt and the authorities would bury it as an accident.
“What do you want to do?” I asked, directing the question to dad.
The rest were also looking at him to know what his opinion was. We might be in the human world but he was so the alpha.
He had been silent ever since who got back from school and told everyone of the news of the school trip. It was time for him to talk.
“What else?” He shrugged. “We have to be there. I don’t think the witches haven’t been watching Melody and your school. They would surely know of this and try to harm her there.”
“The witches are strangers to school management while we are not. We are known parents of the school and would be seen as distraction if we are found around there.” Mum said. “The witches can mask their appearance while we can’t.”
Dad nodded. “Whether they can mask their appearance or not, they would have to show it at a point. We would stay somewhere far from the venue of the school trip but not too far so that if the boys who would be watching over Melody sensed anything strange, we can quickly rush over to protect her when they called for us. Is that okay for everyone?”
“I think that is good.” Uncle Liam nodded.
“Boys?” Dad asked, looking at us one after the other.
I nodded together with my brothers. “Good.”
Finally, it was the day of the school trip and we all trooped into the bus that was going to take us to town in a single long file. Melody had gotten to school earlier than we did and was at the front so she entered the bus before us. By the time we entered the bus, she was already seated and Eve was seated beside her, eating from her food flask and trying to offer Melody who declined her offer politely.
I shook my head, wondering when Eve was going to give up on offering Melody what she wouldn’t eat. She didn’t eat from strangers and I was sure that she wouldn’t have collected anything from us as well if our parents weren’t friends.
I hated that Eve was already seated Melody. She had unintentionally ruined our plans. One of us was meant to stay with Melody so we could watch over her. We sat at the other line of the bus from where Melody was seated so we could watch over her from there.
Nothing great seemed to be happening. Eve ate her food without offering Melody again after she rejected her and Melody turned her face towards the window, staring at what was happening outside.
I sighed. It was going to be a long and quiet ride. I wondered if dad, mum and Uncle Liam had gotten to the venue and already found out where they were going to hide in.
Sometimes, I wished that the witches would show up after I heard of them so we could put a stop to this and go home but strangely, even though we had decided that they were going to act today, I found myself wishing that they didn’t. I wanted to enjoy the school trip as I knew that this might be once in a lifetime opportunity for me to enjoy school trips as we would be leaving as soon as the witches were conquered.
I shrugged. Life was more than enjoying a school trip. I had no doubt as well that the witches might act today. The school trip was an opportunity that they couldn’t miss and it was barely three weeks to Melody’s birthday. Time was ticking for her.
Finally, the bus was filled with the students and it was time to leave. The bus driver got behind the wheels and got the bus sparked to life. I sighed as we started moving on the road.
It was time for some actions.
