Kevin’s POV
I was back in Oscar Nelson’s courtroom again but this time, it wasn’t because I was in the trouble. I was out talking with Liam when a guard had come to tell me that the alpha would like to see me.
I had left with Liam and the moment I met Ella in the room, I could guess what this was about.
“Good day, Oscar Nelson.” I greeted as I walked into the room.
“Welcome, Alpha Kevin. You should sit.” He said, pointing to a seat. “Your beta should also sit.”
Ella was already seated and I smiled at her as I sat beside her. Liam sat at my other side, leaving me in the middle.
“I heard you called for me.” I said, eager to know what this was all about and get it over with.
“I called for you.”
The plague was over and all the infected patients had been healed. If he had called us to thank us for what had happened and what Ella had done in regards to finding the cure, I hoped he could get on with it quickly and let us be done. I had already planned on going home in the next two days though I hadn’t said anything to Ella. That was what I had been discussing with Liam before the messenger of the alpha had come for us.
I had only one thing that I wanted from Oscar Nelson and I wasn’t sure it was possible that I was going to get it from him. I didn’t think he was going to be open to the idea and I didn’t want to broach it and make it seem like I was trying to call in on the favor that my mate had done for them. That was going to make me seem cheap.
“I have something to say to you-” he began.
Here we go, I smiled, my heart kicking in my chest as I hoped that he would say what I hoped to hear.
He continued. “Before I say anything though, I would like thank you-” he turned to Ella “-my lady, for your sacrifice and goodwill in helping to cure my people. You could have decided to be on your way and not be bothered. I didn’t ask you to join the doctors but you asked to join. I heard the reports from the chief doctor and she said your inputs were a major reason for the breakthrough they saw in getting rid of the plague.
Ella smiled. “They humble me too much, my lord.”
“Thank you, my lady.” He smiled at her.
“You are welcome.” Ella accepted his gratitude as graciously as she could.
I smiled as I watched her bow in response to Oscar Nelson’s bow, looking dignified and composed in her seat. I couldn’t help but be proud of her at that moment. She would make a very fine Luna and I was glad to be her mate. I couldn’t have made a better choice in picking a partner and I was proud of myself as well.
“Thank you.” Oscar Nelson. He exhaled and then turned to me.
With the way he was looking at me, I knew there was something serious that he wanted to say but didn’t know how to say it.
I held my breath, hoping it was what I wanted to hear. I didn’t say anything, waiting for him to talk without forcing him. What he wanted to say might not be what I needed to know so there was no need to rush him.
“Is there anything the problem, Oscar Nelson?” I eventually asked, against my wish when I waited for him and he didn’t say anything. I had never seen him so quiet.
He swallowed and finally nodded. He cleared his throat and gave me a confident stare. Yes, this was the man I knew him to be.
“What do you think about renewing the alliance we have between us?” He asked. “We could have gotten it done the same other day if you hadn’t fought with my son then and it’s a disgrace that you both fought again. I think with the help your mate, our packs could be of help to each other and we can become stronger than we use to be.”
I loved the idea. I looked at Liam and smiled at him. Who could have known we would get what we were wishing for minutes ago?
I turned to Oscar Nelson. “That sounds lovely. I would appreciate if you can also put the episodes I had with your son behind you, I don’t think of it again.”
“You are a good man, Alpha Kevin.” He smiled at me.
“You humor me.” I chuckled.
He stood up, extending his hand to me for a shake. “Let’s sign the treaty we should have signed months ago.’
I chuckled. “Let’s do that.”
“When are you going back to your homeland?” He asked.
I went still, not knowing how to respond to that since I hadn’t spoken to Ella about it and I didn’t want to spring the news on her right here.
Oscar Nelson noticed my hesitation and chuckled. “It’s okay if you haven’t decided. I wanted to ask if you are open to me throwing a party tonight to celebrate the new bond we have?”
I chuckled. “I don’t.”
“I guess I better start making preparation now if I want to impress you.” He smiled and called for a maid, giving her instructions on what to do.
I heaved a sigh of relief, loving how events had turned out in the end.
