Luke’s POV
I was mad. I blew out a breath, feeling my chest relax as air came out of my throat and wished it was fire instead.
How could Caleb do that to me? How could he disrespect me that much in the presence of the soldiers? This was my mission. I had been the one in charge of this mission and it was my call to make as regards anything that had to do with it. How could he foil my mission like that? How could he dare to overturn my orders right in my presence?
Caleb had never been interested in politics. He had never been interested in making orders or giving the soldiers interested. He had never dared to defy my orders or put me in my place. That he did this instead of focusing on his love for adventure could only mean one thing: the rogue was right. He was planning against him and trying to take the position that belonged to me. I wondered how I was going to prove this to father since he was so much determined to deny his involvement in a coup.
I was starting to regret killing the rogue. He would have been my witness in this case and the trial that was to come that Caleb had become a traitor and the blood moon wolves were here to take us captive though I didn’t know how I was going to convince father to let a rogue enter the palace.
I exhaled again. It was good that I had killed the rogue. He was going to be a headache more than I could imagine later on in the future if I hadn’t taken care of him. As much as I was filled with ambition and fury at the blood moon pack, I wasn’t going to be a fool to be blinded to the reality of who the rogues were. They were cunning bastards and wouldn’t hesitate to betray anyone. They were not to be trusted.
“Take them to the dungeon.” I ordered the general the moment we got to the palace. I glanced at Caleb. “Or do you have anything to say about my order this time as well, brother?”
He chuckled. “Unfortunately, no. It’s not like I can tell you to prepare a suite to keep them all in.”
I laughed. “I see you have a sense of humor.”
He shrugged. “I tend to look positively at life, even in damning situations.”
“I wonder if you would think of life in a positive manner if you were joining them in the dungeon.”
He didn’t even blink. “We both know that you can’t put me in a dungeon.”
I rolled my eyes, hating how right he was. “Unfortunately, I can’t even though I wish.”
“I know you wish but you know what they say about wishes, brother.” He teased me.
“Why are you being slow? Take the bloody wolves to the dungeon!” I snarled when I realized they weren’t all yet gone. Ella and her mate were gone already there were still some of the men yet to enter the dungeon.
“It will be okay.” Caleb shouted at the retreating figure of the remaining wolves that were yet to be walked into the dungeon.
They looked back at him and smiled as if they were telling him to worry about himself.
“It won’t be okay.” I found myself saying and disputing Caleb’s words before I could think much of what I was doing. I shook my head at how silly what I was doing was eventually.
They ignored me and I was reminded that I shouldn’t have talked.
“Take Caleb and Elder Zeke to a room in the palace and lock them both in. They mustn’t be let out unless there is a word from father or me.” I said the men with me.
“Yes.” The men said and walked the traitors to the palace.
I moved towards the palace to notify father of my arrival and give him reports of what had happened.
“I didn’t expect you so soon.” He said the moment I stepped into his room.
“Is that your way of telling me that I did a good job?” I smirked at father.
He chuckled. “I knew you would do a good job so I wasn’t worried.”
I was silent. Father could be annoying but I decided to take pride in his confidence in me that I was going to do a good job and let that be my compliment.
“I did.” I said, beaming with pride.
“Did you catch the blood moon wolves loitering around our territory?” He asked. “Did you catch your brother with them?”
“Yes, father. I caught the traitors.” I replied, deciding not to tell him that Caleb said that they were about to leave when I got there.
His lips curled down. “You can’t call anyone of them a traitor yet until they have had a hearing.”
I scowled, wondering why both father and Caleb were determined to annoy me.
“Fix their hearing for this evening. I will have the servants send a note to the elders.”
“Elder Zeke was also found there.” I said.
Dad chuckled. “This should be interesting. I didn’t think I would see him again and now he showed himself among the blood moon wolves.”
“Actually, father,” I began. “The land they were living in belongs to Elder Zeke.”
“Call for the hearing this afternoon and send in two servants here to deliver the message to the remaining elders.”
I smiled as I walked out of his bedroom. Things were finally getting interesting as I wanted them to be. I was going to enjoy myself during the hearing today.
I couldn’t wait to hear dad give the order for the blood moon wolves to be killed. I would gladly retire the executioner and do the killing by myself.
