Ella’s POV
This was like a dream to me; a dream I wasn’t expecting. To be more exact, this was like a nightmarish dream. I had been thinking of going back to the land of the blue river pack but not like this. Not like a captive. Not like a traitor. Not like someone going with others as a pack of traitors instead of the entrance I had dreamed of in my head.
I had thought so many times of coming back here to see mad granny and not my friends and this wasn’t how I envisioned it. I had dreamed of getting a big entrance and welcomed by everyone. I hoped that those who knew me and we’re familiar with me wouldn’t be around when I get to town.
I hoped but I didn’t doubt that was going to be the case. I knew the schedule of the blue river wolves by memory and what they did at every moment.
If we didn’t get to town in the next one hour, it was possible that everyone would see us as we enter. It wasn’t everyday that the soldiers of the pack walk the streets of the town so everyone would be curious to know what was going on. They would stretch their necks out of curiosity and then they would see us. What was I to do? It wasn’t like I could hide from the crowd who would see us so they wouldn’t.
Everyone would see us and recognize us-me especially, since I was at the front and I had lived here for five years. The secret of my identity that I had spent five years trying to protect was going to be out in a horrifying manner.
If we walked faster enough, we could get to town in the next forty five minutes and people wouldn’t have to see us. We could do that but we weren’t walking fast enough. We had been walking at a faster pace until Luke ordered the soldiers who were walking in front to stop walking faster
I had gasped when I realized what he was trying to do but it wasn’t like we could do anything about it. He was trying to make us be seen by everyone and be labeled and hated as traitors even before we got heard by the council.
He was trying to start a war that he couldn’t finish. It was likely that someone who would see us walk through would have a connection to our pack and the news would get there and then there would be war and the rogues would have a happy ending as they wanted.
What a sick plan and Luke was letting his anger drive him on foolishly.
I confirmed what I suspected he was trying to do when he took a bend and took a path that was in the middle of the town instead of the secret path that led from the palace to the border that the soldiers always passed through when knew that this wasn’t the road they had walked through when they had been coming towards where we were.
Caleb also seemed to realize what Luke was doing. “Walk faster and take that bend to the right.”
“To the left.” Luke growled.
I smiled as the brothers shouted commands at the soldiers. It had been enjoyable listening to Caleb talk Luke’s ears off earlier and watching him frustrate his brother while he was trying to defend us and explain why we were there without giving too much. Their drama had kept my mind busy and away from the thoughts threatening to pull my head off.
“To the right. You don’t want the whole town to know you’ve been on a mission that would stoke war.” Caleb argued. “Since when have you advertised your mission to the public? Is this what your training would be?”
“To the left.” Luke growled. “I’m the alpha.”
“Next alpha to be.” Caleb corrected. “That you are the eldest son doesn’t make you the alpha yet. Dad still makes the calls.”
Luke growled, his eyes sparking with rage that his brother had dared to rebuke and call him out in the presence of the soldiers.
Caleb didn’t care. “If father and the council of elders find out that you made public an arrest that was meant to be confidential, would you be okay with the punishment?”
I saw the soldiers swallow and hesitate, stopping in their tracks. They didn’t even look at Luke to know what they should do since Caleb had undermined his authority. They were on their own at the moment and had to make a choice for themselves on the orders of the two brothers they were to follow and it wouldn’t make them regret their existence.
“To the right.” One of the soldiers at the front finally shouted and we continued moving.
I exhaled, not knowing I had held my breath all along. I was glad that they had made the right choice. The general was wise and I felt like running towards him to thank him. We didn’t have to worry about being seen by others.
“Let’s walk faster.” Caleb added.
I glanced at him and smiled. He had always been a darling.
“You seem worried.” Kevin smiled as he squeezed my hand.
How could he smile in this situation? “I’m no longer worried. What will happen now?”
“It depends on the alpha.”
“Blasted rogues.” I cursed.
“We will find out very soon what will happen.” He said and pointed.
I sighed as I saw what he was pointing at. There it was, the palace standing in all of its glory and waiting to decide our fate.
I was curious to know what it was going to be.
