72. Thank Goodness

Kevin’s POV
The men in wolf forms glanced at me and nodded, surrounding us as they fought off the standing men.
“After me, Ella and Dalsa.” I said and crawled down the tunnel.
I led the way, knowing Liam would keep the men away from us and hoped Ella didn’t stay to fight.
“Go, Dalsa.” I heard Ella said and pushed the angel down the tunnel.
I shook my head as I sensed the angel’s scent behind me. As usual, Ella chose to be selfless and chose others over herself. She was braver than any female that I knew.
Ella was right behind Dalsa and it wasn’t until I sensed her that I was finally at peace. Thank goodness she finally stopped worrying me. She was going to be the death of me. I had no doubt she was going to give me grey hairs.
I sensed Loki behind me and was relieved someone was watching her back. He had changed into his human form.
“Let’s keep crawling. We will be out soon.” I said, moving at a rapid rate and grateful the tunnel was wide enough to allow that.
“Just keep going and shut up, Kevin.” Ella said.
I chuckled and moved forward, gasping as I got in the open air and took a huge breath of fresh air.
“Thank the moon goddess.” The two men I stationed outside breathed in relief as they saw me and pulled me up, putting their hands under my armpits.
“We have been worried when you didn’t show up on time and afraid things have gotten worse inside.”
I smiled, dusting off the sand on my hands. “Things did take a turn but it wasn’t what we couldn’t handle. Thank you for not leaving your post despite your fear.”
Their chests swelled with pride. “You gave us orders and we would follow.”
I looked back at the tunnel and saw the angel poke her head out. “Help her out.”
They nodded and guided her out of the tunnel just as they had done for me.
Dalsa smiled as she was helped on her feet, looking around with tears filling her eyes. “I didn’t know I was going to see the sun again before I die. Thank you.” She said to us.
“Thank Ella.” I replied.
“I will forever be grateful to her.” She replied.
I nodded and we both smiled at each other.
“Where is the Luna?”
“She will be right out.” I answered, my gaze on the tunnel.
“I’m here.” Ella said as she poked her head out. Before any of us could help her up, she slid forward and sprinted upward, dusting her hand as she got to her feet.
“Who missed me?” She smiled as she glanced around.
I chuckled. Crazy girl.
“Greetings, my lady.” The men bowed to her.
“Oh! This greeting again.” Ella sighed. “Please find something new.”
The men looked at me, confusion blanking their features as they wondered what he meant.
I waved my hands at them, chuckling. “Don’t mind her. The Luna is playing hard to get.”
They smiled and glanced away from her. Ella rolled her eyes but didn’t say anything.
I smirked at her. “You are mine and you know there is nothing you can do about it.”
“Let’s wait for the others to come out so we can leave.” She said instead.
“I get that.” I said, putting two of my fingers in my lips and made a whistle.
Liam’s POV
My ears strained as I heard the alpha’s whistle. It was time to retreat. I made a signal to the men except Cephas.
They shifted to human forms and rushed down the tunnel, making their escape. Cephas and I flanked them, making sure the guards couldn’t get to them as they made their exit.
I smiled, barring my wolf teeth at the guard I sent flying with a shove of my head. “Grrrrr!” I roared, wishing I could say more than that.
The rest of the men got under the tunnel and I was left alone with Cephas. I didn’t have to wait long before I heard the signal.
I turned to Cephas, my eyes boring into his. The men were out of the tunnel and we were the ones they were waiting for.
It wouldn’t be easy for the two of us to go down the tunnel for our escape. The men would follow us and we would barely be able to escape.
I had another plan from the one Kevin had told us.
I raised myself on hind legs and pointed with a paw at the fence behind the tunnel. We would have to run through bushes before we could get to the fence but it was worth it.
I signaled to Cephas and he nodded his big wolf head, roaring to tell me that he had heard me.
We ran towards the bush, the men shouting as they realized what we were about to do.
“Stop.” The count shouted as we ran.
I snorted. As if I would obey any command asides from that of my alpha.
The fence was high that it left no doubt why the servants had dug a tunnel to leave the mansion without using the gate.
I smacked my jaws together and ran my big lolling over my lower jaw and jumped, Cephas jumping with me.
“Fucking wolves.” I heard the count say as we jumped over the fence.
