71. Those Human

Book:Rejected Silent Lone Wolf Published:2025-4-7

Kevin’s POV
I had known there was no way we wouldn’t fight with those human vermin but had hoped that we could avoid it.
I was ready though. And so were my men.
“Stealing her right under my nose?” The count scowled as he walked into the field.
“I don’t have to steal what belongs to me.” I retorted.
“She is mine. I bought her.” He growled.
I scoffed. “She is mine. I claimed and marked here.”
“That is your tradition. It doesn’t apply here.” He said, his usual annoying smirk on his face. “What matters here is what is on the record. I bought her with my money and she belongs to me.”
I rolled my eyes, done with the unnecessary chitchat but didn’t want to charge first. I knew me and my men would finish them off in minutes and wanted to be fair and give him a memory to stroke his ego with.
“She has my mark and scent on her body and forever belongs to me. You would have sensed that if you weren’t so stuck up in your foolishness and arrogance.”
He growled, his eyes bristling with rage. “Charge.” He ordered his men, pointing at us.
I smiled. Finally, what I had been waiting for all along.
The men roared, pulling out their swords and charged at us.
“Oh my!” I heard Dalsa, Ella’s angel friend moan beside me in fear. I didn’t think she would be much help before as she would be weak with exhaustion and wouldn’t be able to bring forth her powers.
“Don’t worry, we got this covered.” Ella smiled, patting her on the back.
“I love your faith in me.” I said to Ella while keeping my eyes on the armed guards running towards us.
“It’s faith in us. I’m fighting as well.” She said.
“No, you are not.”
“Yes, I am.” She insisted, her jaws set in a tight line.
I sighed, cursing mildly under my breath.
I knew that stubborn look. I should have known she wouldn’t stand still and watch while others fight beside her.
“Fine,” I replied grudgingly.
She smiled.
“You are going to let her fight your battles.” The count asked, hearing my conversation with Ella and mocked me.
“The battle was always hers.” I replied.
“Don’t sulk if I make you cry.” Ella snapped at him.
I grinned. That is my girl.
The count snorted, not believing that Ella was strong enough to fight them off.
I glanced at my men and noticed that they were standing still like I was, patiently waiting for the guards to get closer to us.
“Now.” Liam said, snapping his fingers in the air.
The guards stopped in their tracks, looking around in fright as Liam, Damien, Cephas and Loki suddenly jumped in the air and shifted into wolves. I smiled as I watched them fretting and stepped back, not wanting to move closer to her.
They never had a chance against us in the first place.
Ronald shouted, seeing the hesitation and fear in their eyes. “What are you doing? You fools, why are you standing there? You have swords, do something with it.”
His butler, to set an example, roared and ran from behind the count, going straight towards the midst of the men. Feeling encouraged by his action, the guards seemed to remember that they had swords and charged at us again.
My men were ready. With a swipe of their limbs, they kicked the men off their feet and sent them flying into the air. Some groaned as claws hit them, tearing into their flesh.
Peter sneaked behind Loki and nicked him with his sword. Loki growled and slashed at his leg with his claws. He sent him flying into the air afterwards and I heard Peter groaning from where he fell, clutching his leg. There was no doubt his leg was broken.
His master glanced at him and he looked back, his eyes filled with apology telling his boss how much he hated being out of the fight.
One of the guards dared to move closer to where Dalsa, Ella and I were and before I could do something about it, Ella reached out, grabbed his hand and squeezed it till he was forced to drop the sword and ran off with his arm broken and limp.
“You are actually strong.” Ronald looked at her with awe in his eyes.
“Thought I was lying.” She snorted. “I thought I warned you.”
Ronald smiled and turned to me. “Seeing how strong she is makes me want her more. Having all that strength moving under me in bed is an appeal.”
I knew what he was trying to do but I won’t fall for his tricks. He wanted to get me riled up so I could make a mistake.
I shook my head, grinning at him while I boiled inside. “You know what your problem is? You don’t know when to give up and keep wanting what you can’t have. Try to get her back if you can. I promise you it would be your funeral.”
He hissed, hating that I wasn’t taking the bait.
More than half of his men were lying sprawled on the ground and it was time to leave here. We still had a long way to go and it was getting late. Moreover, I could see Ronald picking up a phone and I didn’t want him to call for help.
“Flank.” I yelled.
