Anna’s POV
We rented a small apartment, and after injecting Tony with anesthesia, he lay in a state of unconsciousness on the bed. I attached needles to both ends of a fifty-centimeter transparent syringe, connecting the middle of the syringe to a green bottle containing a liquid that could activate cells and enhance blood diffusion.
“Miss Anna, so what’s the antidote you found?” Zachary asked nervously.
“My blood…”
“What?” Kevin interrupted, “I haven’t heard that werewolf blood can detoxify. Anna, if you need blood, you can use mine.”
“Yours won’t work; only my blood can neutralize the Dreamshade in Tony’s body.” As I was about to insert the needle into my skin, my wrist was restrained, and Kevin stared at me with seriousness, his tone firm.
“Absolutely not. I won’t allow you to harm yourself!”
“Kevin, let go of me. I have consumed many poisonous leaves since childhood, and my blood is immune to toxins. Ancient texts indicate that an active liquid can neutralize Dreamshade. Freshly drawn blood is active. This is the only way to save Tony.” My tongue was not used to speaking such a long sentence at once, and my teeth almost fell apart and I bit my tongue.
“Even so, we can’t guarantee that this won’t harm your body. Blood exchange is too dangerous. I absolutely cannot let you go through this!”
Then he tried to snatch the syringe from my hand, and I became annoyed.
“Kevin, I am the physician here. Please leave this room now!” Without hesitation, I inserted the needle into my wrist. “Zachary, please escort them out to avoid disturbing me.”
“Sir, please…” Zachary looked at me apologetically and then at Kevin.
Kevin’s eyes turned red, his brows furrowed, and he stood motionless, exuding a chilling aura. Liam, standing behind him, had a serious expression, watching my actions closely. At this moment, Liam’s eyes were more respectful than before.
To be honest, I won’t do anything I’m not sure about, especially in medicine. I am not a person with great love. I save tony not for the sake of fame and gratitude. I just don’t want Zachary and his son to experience the same experience as my mother.
I inserted the other needle into Tony’s skin, and blood instantly flowed through the infusion tube, starting the exchange. Soon, I felt a cold sensation creeping in from my wrist, spreading throughout my body, and I shivered, taking a deep breath.
“Anna, are you okay? If it’s unbearable, stop.”
“Don’t worry; I know what I’m doing.”
Half an hour later, we completed the blood exchange. At this point, Tony was still asleep, but his complexion had regained its rosy color. Due to the mutual attack of toxins in my body, I felt cold all over. As I pulled out the needles, my body weakened, and I fell backward, only to be caught in a warm and sturdy embrace, then lifted horizontally.
I struggled just as I was about to speak.
“Not now. Don’t refuse me.”
Kevin’s deep voice echoed in my ears. He seemed angry, and my open mouth closed again.
His steps were steady and fast. Soon, I was placed on another bed in a different room. Weakly opening my eyes, I saw Kevin’s enlarged handsome face. “Anna, are you okay?”
Our eyes met, and I nodded.
“Liam, go prepare a bowl of blood-enriching and body-warming medicine,” Kevin ordered Liam.
“Yes, Alpha.”
After Liam left the room, Kevin’s large palm covered my forehead. His blue eyes darkened. “Your body temperature is very low.”
Before I could say anything, he bent down and got onto the bed, holding me, who was trembling, in his arms. At this moment, I couldn’t articulate words, my head was dizzy, and when I tried to struggle, Kevin held me tightly, as if afraid I would disappear.
“Don’t move. I just want to hold you like this. I’ll leave when your body temperature recovers.”
His chest pressed against my back, the scorching heat penetrated through the shirt, touching my skin. The coldness in my body diminished a bit. Then, instinctively, I unconsciously leaned into his embrace. Sensing this, he slid both arms around my waist, embracing my body. His head rested on my neck, and the warm breath he exhaled hit my skin. I shivered at the stimulation, and he chuckled softly.
Feeling a bit shy, but with my head spinning, and limbs almost unresponsive, I could only let Kevin hold me. He then pulled the blanket and covered our bodies. In my blurry vision, I met his blue eyes. Unsure if it was my imagination, those eyes seemed full of heartache and helplessness.
In a daze, memories flooded back from many years ago when we were still children. Whenever Kevin went into the forest for training, I silently followed behind him, and he had looked at me with those same eyes.
“My Mate, why do you always make me worry so much?”
He sighed, and as my consciousness faded, I drifted into a deep sleep.
When I woke up, it was already the morning of the third day. I sat up from the bed, and beside me was Kevin’s handsome face in peaceful sleep. His black hair was a bit tousled, and his hand was holding onto my right hand. I gently freed my hand, and he woke up.
“Anna, you’re finally awake.”
I remembered the scene before I fell into a coma and felt a bit embarrassed. I just nodded and lifted the blanket to get out of bed.
“Miss Anna!” Zachary joyfully rushed into my room, embracing me. “Thank you so much. I’m deeply grateful for saving Tony’s life.”
“No need to thank me. As a physician, healing is my duty.”
“But, Miss Anna, I must say you are the greatest doctor I’ve ever seen. You not only saved Tony but also saved me.”
“Okay, fine.” Kevin pushed Zachary away. “Now please be quiet and keep your hands off.”
Kevin stared at Zachary with a gloomy expression. Zachary, feeling embarrassed, took two steps back and awkwardly withdrew his hand. “Yes, sorry, I just got a bit too excited.”
Then Zachary playfully winked at me. “Miss Anna, although your boyfriend is possessive, I have to say he is really considerate. These past two days, he has been taking care of you attentively.”
Taking care of me?
I looked at Kevin in surprise.
“Yes, when you were sleeping, Alpha personally brewed medicine and fed it to you. I’ve never seen him be so caring to any woman before,” Liam added.
Fed medicine?
I remembered the soft touch on my lips in the dream, and my face flushed. I glared at Kevin fiercely, but he just grinned.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” I said.
