Peterson’s POV.
“Are you ready to leave?” I couldn’t hold back myself as I asked her in a husky voice.
Her broad smile soon turned to a frown before she wore that straight face where I just couldn’t say how she felt right that moment.
“Not yet!” She said, “I decided to spend the weekend here.” She responded, making me groan inwardly as I rolled my eyes.
“I…”
Before I could make a complete sentence, the unknown number had messaged me again but this time around, I couldn’t help but get scared.
“Who is he? And what does he know about Liam’s death as well as his beta, Pedro? And what connection is he talking about?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I kept staring at my phone screen.
“Are you okay?” Elizabeth asked as she looked at me.
“Yeah… Yeah, I am.” I said with a broad smile this time before wearing a straight face as I switched off my phone.
I threw it on the bed before taking my night clothes off, leaving myself just in boxers as I walked inside my bathroom.
Today wasn’t just any day. I stepped out of the bathroom after having my shower and I still saw a message from the same unknown number.
{I know Liam’s and Pedro’s killers and I can help you find them but then, you seem to be so much in love with your faction, the same faction that secretly killed Liam and Pedro. You should watch your back now because this comes with a heavy price}
I felt my heart stop for a while as I read through the message over and over again.
“No… No… No way!! This is out of it now!!” I chuckled softly as I looked at the message.
I quickly searched the number up but then, it returned empty.
I drove down to Helen’s house to pick her up as that was the plan since the previous night.
“Are you sure about that?” I saw the shock that also overwhelmed her the moment I broke the news to her.
“Whoever it was, I think that person knows so much about us.” I said strongly as I looked at her.
“So, what are you going to do now?” She questioned as she stared at me.
“You know, he sounded so certain and Jayson? Jayson returned to New Kingston because of Liam. He knows something we don’t know. I overheard him asking Logan about it. I wasn’t sure. I… I couldn’t confront Logan about it if he knew who killed Liam but then, this?” I mumbled as tears swelled up my eyes. “He mentioned that it was someone from our faction. Which means Rex King was never the murderer. He was only framed up.” I stuttered as I turned to look at Helen who now wore a straight face.
“Don’t tell me you want to confront Logan about this?” Helen snapped as she looked at me.
I remained silent as I kept looking at her.
“Oh, come on, Peter, that’s out of it, okay? You can’t confront him!!” She sneered.
From her facial expression it was obvious that no matter what I said right now, she wasn’t ever going to buy my idea of confronting him but then, I still couldn’t help it.
“Liam was a part of us, Helen.” I snapped disappointedly as I parked the car. “So why would someone in the faction kill him and Pedro?” I sneered.
“I think Logan knows something!!”
I wasn’t sure but then, I just felt convinced that he had answers to it.
“You know we have a lot already on the table. You guys have Collins Morgan to take care of. The faction as well, Peterson!!” She shrugged, trying to reason with me.
“Talking about the faction!!” I said as I paused. “Whoever it was, knows about the faction too. Which means, he is not just any werewolf, Helen.” I shrugged as I hit my steering wheel very hard, causing it to make a honking sound three consecutive times.
“What do you mean by “he knows about the faction too?” Peterson?” She furrowed her eyebrows as she turned to me this time around.
The faction was a long dead discussion and the young werewolves knew absolutely nothing about it. And Logan and the rest never got to know about it, because talking about the faction died with Liam, me and Helen who were old enough to remember certain conversations of our parents then. Though, we weren’t more than five years old.
“What if this is actually one of Collins’ stunts?” Helen sneered as she looked at me.
“I thought of that but you know, I don’t think this is Collins, Helen. Why would he come to me? And there is possibly no way he would know about the faction.” I said in defense as I felt there was someone else we never knew yet that was also about to change our lives for good.
“But Edgar did.” Helen snapped as she forced out a smile.
“Fine!!”
I forced out a smile as I exhaled heavily.
“I promise not to make any mention of Liam.” I snapped as I started the engine as I drove down to pick up Patricia and from there, we drove down to the ceremonial hall.
[Present Hour]
“You had just two simple things to do, Peterson!” Helen scowled as she dragged my right arm.
“Two things, Peterson!!” She cursed disappointedly.
“You won’t blame me. I did what I did because I had no other option than that.” I scowled.
“All these months I fought so hard to forget Liam and have you forgotten so much about the time we spent growing up? We were always there for each other. We stood for each other. We fought for each other, Helen. You, me and him.” I sneered as tears swelled up my eyes.
“If I get to find who the killer is, then I would happily do that, Helen.”
My tears blurred my vision as I looked at her.
