Chapter 1030: The Meeting

Eliza didn’t dare to look at her. “Besides, I always feel that Yusuf’s actions are strange. He probably has bad intentions, of course, I mean towards you.”
Yusuf’s superior was Jamir, so the truly strange person was Jamir.
Callie had noticed all of this. Someone who could fight their way back to Anbusea from abroad and take control of the family couldn’t be as simple as they appeared.
The elevator reached the first floor, and the doors slowly opened. Seeing Callie remain silent, Eliza felt a bit worried. “Callie…”
Callie snapped out of her thoughts and took a deep breath. “I understand. Thank you for telling me.”
Eliza followed her out of the elevator, saying, “Callie, I’ve heard about what’s been happening lately. I just want you to be well, not to be deceived again, and to live your own life.”
It was sincere.
These words touched Callie’s heart. Her throat felt bitter as she looked back and realized that there were hardly any people around her who hadn’t deceived her.
A world full of deceit and exploitation for fame and fortune was truly rotten.
The next day, she arranged to meet Regan.
In a refined cafe, Regan had reserved a spot but arrived late.
As Callie was drinking her second cup of coffee, Regan finally pushed open the door and entered. “Callie.”
Callie looked over and saw Isaac outside. He impatiently lit a cigarette while waiting.
She withdrew her gaze and calmly said, “It seems your relationship with your husband has improved quite a bit.”
Regan’s expression turned awkward as she sat down. “The Ellison family has been very busy lately. I don’t have much time, so I had to let him drive me. If it wasn’t necessary, I wouldn’t have done it.”
Callie caught the sensitive words.
“Very busy?”
“Yes, you can imagine how difficult it is after Oconnor Group and the Ellison family fell apart. Ahmad… he’s still in the hospital.”
At the mention of this, Regan cautiously glanced at Callie. “You haven’t visited the elders even once during this time, is it because…”
“No.” She knew what Regan wanted to ask. “I never intended to live as Maevelyn.”
“Then why did you…” still do it?
“To seek justice for myself.”
In fact, Regan didn’t know that Callie had long been aware of her true identity. She had thought Callie was only resilient and foolish.
Regan awkwardly tugged at her lips. “Let’s not talk about that. I heard you saved Nelson yesterday, very impressive.”
Callie wasn’t interested in this and continued to ask about the Ellison family’s situation.
Regan paused again. “Like Oconnor Group, they are facing internal and external troubles. My abilities are limited; I can only try my best to prevent further issues. Are you asking because you want to return? Then you should talk to Sienna; she would agree.”
She spoke quickly, eager to know Callie’s stance and seemingly worried about being suspected of something.
Callie shook her head and looked into Regan’s eyes. “I have no intention of returning to the Ellison family. We’ve been friends for two years; you should know my character. Everything I’ve done is not to fight for anything but to ask you to manage the Ellison family on Ahmad’s behalf. You have the ability, and I trust you.”
These words left Regan stunned. She hadn’t expected Callie to say something like this or that she truly didn’t care about the Ellison family.
She was somewhat surprised. “Do you know how much the Ellison family’s assets are worth in dollars?”
“I have a rough idea.”
“Marilyn risked everything to get it, and you really don’t want it?”
Callie shook her head.
