Kael slowed down his eating when he heard my words. He looked at me and asked, “Do you feel sorry for him?”
“No, it’s not that. I’m just looking at it from a human perspective. What Lucian did was wrong, and he should be punished, but no matter how serious it is, it doesn’t warrant death.”
“I see. Then we’ll handle it the human way-lock him up,” Kael said calmly.
“But what about the school? And his parents? They’ll lose contact with Lucian.”
I thought about it. Chances were that no one would ever know Lucian had turned into a werewolf. I hadn’t even had the chance to tell Evelyn yet.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of this. I won’t let you feel uneasy,” Kael said with a sigh.
Hearing his reassurance, I felt slightly relieved.
As I continued eating, I asked Kael, “Will things like this happen more often? I’m a little worried…”
“Let me be clear with you, Seraphina-yes, these things will happen more and more frequently. That’s why I hope you’ll train with me going forward,” Kael said.
His words left me stunned. “We’re really going to keep training?”
“Of course.”
“But look, those things are werewolves. With my human body, how can I fight them?” I found the notion absurd.
If it were humans, maybe I could manage. But werewolves? No matter how strong I became, I couldn’t stand a chance against a completely different species.
“That’s why you can focus on improving your physical fitness-so you can escape when necessary,” Kael replied.
Escape!
I stared at Kael, wide-eyed. I hadn’t expected that. So, Kael didn’t plan for me to fight those powerful creatures at all; he just wanted me to be able to run.
It was realistic, though.
“Alright, if it’s running, I’m willing to train.”
“Good. From now on, we’ll train in the woods every evening. I’ll teach you how to run faster and how to use obstacles to protect yourself.”
I agreed.
Afterward, I glanced at my phone and saw a message from Evelyn. My heart froze.
[Seraph, oh my God! You spent the night with Kael last night? You’re so lucky!]
“Why does Evelyn know I was with you last night?”
Evelyn and I were close, and if I didn’t return for a night, she’d worry about me. Yesterday, I’d been too emotionally drained to respond to her messages.
Kael explained, “She called you last night, but I was worried about waking you, so I answered instead. Sorry, I forgot to tell you.”
I nodded and decided to explain everything to Evelyn when I got back to the dorm.
Then again, there might be no need to explain. Everyone could see the state of my relationship with Kael as clear as day.
After finishing my meal, I decided to head back to my apartment.
Kael drove me there, and before I got out, he gave me a quick kiss. “Seraphina, if you ever need anything, call me. I’ll come to you immediately.”
“I will,” I replied with a smile.
I turned and headed upstairs.
The moment I stepped into the apartment, Evelyn rushed toward me and grabbed my arm. “Seraph! You spent the whole day with Kael yesterday? That’s unbelievable!”
“Yes,” I admitted. “But I had my reasons.”
“What reasons?”
“I ran into Lucian. He’s turned into a werewolf. He caught me and tried to… do something to me. I was terrified. Luckily, my werewolf friend helped me.”
I decided not to mention that Kael was a werewolf. I’d heard that in their pack, it was a strict rule to keep their identities hidden in human society. If too many humans discovered their secret, they could be banished from their pack.
“Oh my God! Lucian has been missing all this time, and he turned into a werewolf?” Evelyn shrieked, her face full of shock. “No, this has to be a dream. I must be dreaming!”
“I wish it were a dream too, but Evelyn, it’s all real,” I said with a sigh.
Evelyn shook her head and collapsed onto the couch, hugging a pillow.
“Does that mean there are going to be more werewolves in town? Are the people we know going to start turning into werewolves too?”
“That’s exactly what it means. So, Evelyn, no matter what, we need to be careful.”
“They’re insane! Lucian was already so outstanding-a boxer every girl liked, and so handsome. Why would he choose to turn into an ugly werewolf?” Evelyn frowned, completely baffled.
“I can understand if some lowlifes want to become werewolves to achieve their goals, but Lucian? I just don’t get it!”
I let out a cold laugh. “He said it was because of me that he became a werewolf.”
Evelyn suddenly seemed to realize something. “When you put it that way, it kind of makes sense!”
She clapped her hands.
I poured myself a glass of cold water and drank it all in one go. Only the icy chill seemed to calm my emotions.
So Evelyn thought the same, huh?
But I refused to let Lucian’s mistakes become my burden.
I wasn’t at fault!
I’d once considered spending my whole life with Lucian, but he was the one who betrayed our relationship first.
As I was lost in thought, Evelyn started cursing.
“That bastard! He made his own mistakes, and now he’s blaming you for them? What an awful person! Seraph, don’t listen to his nonsense. You’re a good girl. You’ve done nothing wrong. The truth is, Lucian doesn’t deserve you!” Evelyn said, her voice filled with anger. “The moment he chose to stick his dick into Vivienne, he should’ve known there was no going back for you two.”
Hearing Evelyn’s rant, I felt much better.
Even as Evelyn kept cursing Lucian, I had to calm her down. “Alright, Evelyn. That’s enough. He’s not worth it.”
“I know, but I just can’t stand his behavior!” Evelyn grumbled.
She opened a box of chocolates and handed me a piece. “Here, eat some chocolate. It’ll make you feel better.”
“Thanks,” I said with a smile.
“So… are you and Kael officially together now?” Evelyn asked.
