His words were pricking into my skin. Why do I have to lie to someone who’s so open about their feelings in front of me?
I wish I could just stop pretending to tell him that there is someone I love. And he’s…. he’s my dad. How many people do I have to deceive yet?
“Yeah, I hope so as well,” I replied, forcing a smile, “Let’s go and get your coffee for now. Then, I’ll give you a house tour. How does that sound?”
“Hm…sounds amazing. I want to see the Alpha’s study and your room as well.”
“S-sure….” Susan, hurry up.
He had his coffee and chatted with the maids for a few minutes. Then, I took him on the house tour and showed him around every nook and corner before finally bringing him to my room.
“This is my room. It might be a bit messy, but don’t mind,” I said, holding the doorknob.
“Oh, it’s okay. My room is messy most of the time, filled with beer bottles and snacks.”
Eh, that’s not good either.
I opened the door and sneaked a peek inside to see if Susan was there. But she wasn’t in so I went inside without any tension.
“Hm…your room isn’t as girly as I thought it would be,” he remarks, folding his arms.
“Sorry to disappoint you. I like to keep my room normal.”
“Yeah, I can see that, plainly normal. Do you have anything interesting here?”
“Nothing except for some story books. If you like to read you can try them. Other than that, nothing.”
“That’s so boring. I’m not interested in your books. Go and tell someone to bring the box I brought with me here. We’ll start playing right away. You do have a monitor, right?”
“Uh, I need to see. Maybe, I had an old one in my dad’s study. I’ll bring it here then.”
“Yeah, then I can do the set-up. Hurry up.”
“Okay, you sit down here. I’ll arrange things.”
“Alright.”
I left the room and went downstairs to tell the maid to bring the box while I went to get the monitor.
After arranging everything I returned to my room.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” I sighed, opening the door.
“It’s okay, I was waiting for you as well,” he replied, standing near the window. “Do you have everything?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay then.”
I kept the monitor on the floor and then he did the setup. I was picking out games from the box he brought and all of them looked so scary.
While he was fixing the wires, the maid brought some food for us. While nibbling on them we started playing.
I rucked at playing so he kept winning. I hated that so I chose a different game. It was hard to keep the controller steady and I kept dying.
“You really suck at it, don’t you?” he chuckled, covering his mouth.
“It’s not fair you keep winning!” I retorted, “I’ll beat you this time!”
“Oh, you can’t. Try it!” he threw a challenge at me.
What? Now, I have to beat him.
I kept my eyes glued to the screen while I took steady steps. All of a sudden I was ambushed by the enemy, and then suddenly he yelled, “Watch out!”
And my hands froze!
He abandoned his controller and came up from behind me placed his hand on my controller and moved the switches as he pleased.
“You have to win in this level and retrieve the chest or you will have to start over. That’s frustrating,” he grunted, right into my ears. I could feel his warm breath on my skin and that was giving me the tingles.
Why am I feeling so awkward about this? It’s not that weird, is it? We are just playing games….. nothing else…. I just need to stop overthinking about this. Yeah, don’t think anything.
His body felt so warm against mine because of how close he was.
He ended up beating all the monsters and he won.
“We won!” he yelled in excitement. “Aren’t you happy? You finally won.”
“It’s not exactly my win when you played in my place,” I replied. “But, yeah, we won. Congrats.”
“Why do you sound so discouraged? This is our victory, isn’t it?” he asked, glancing at me from sideways.
I looked beside me and saw his face. Our faces were close, I could examine his long eyelashes from close proximity.
Oh no, you are too close too close. Back away already. You finished the game. What if someone walks in on us and sees us like this? It’ll be one hell of a misunderstanding.
“Uh…um…. shall we play something else?” I asked, removing his hands away from mine.
“Oh, uh…sure,” he backed away, sitting beside me like he was originally.
Thank god, he took the clue. It saves my breath.
“Aileen, go get me a pillow. I don’t feel comfortable sitting like this,” he complained.
“What? Go and get it from my bed. I’m busy here.”
“Is this how you treat a guest? Fine, I’ll get it,” he slowly got up and went to my bed.
I was busy so I really wasn’t paying him any attention.
“Hey, can I take thisAh!” his voice startled me enough to crash the game.
