Aileen
I opened the car door and was about to head out but he said something from behind, “I’m going to send the driver to pick you up. Get back home early.”
“I know,” I replied, before heading inside.
Stupid Dave. You are an idiot.
During the first class I was immersed in my thoughts, but the feeling of someone patting my shoulder drew my attention.
I glanced behind me to see Skylar sitting.
“What is it?” I asked.
“You don’t seem to be paying any attention to lectures. Your notebook is almost empty,” he pointed out, peeking over my shoulder.
I looked down at the notebook and noticed he was right after all. I forgot to write down anything that the teacher said.
“It seems you didn’t realize it yourself, did you?” he remarks.
“Uh…. yeah.”
“No worries, take my notes after classes are over. And I can give you the book which the teacher mentioned as well. It was in the library. You can use it to find the reference material.”
“Oh…. okay…thanks.”
“Don’t let the teacher find out if you are daydreaming. Or else he might make you stand near the board all through the lecture,” he suggested with a laugh. “And that’s going to be pretty much embarrassing if you think about it.”
“Yeah….. that sounds like him for sure.”
“He’s such a sucker. But, he’s good at teaching. He has previously worked in one of the top colleges in our country and decided to move here because he couldn’t see his family more often.”
“Oh…. really? It doesn’t look like he’s that smart though.”
“Well, as they say, appearance really deceives people. That’s why you can’t believe he’s that great. Anyway, focus on the lecture”
“Skylar, what are you doing at the back?” the teacher yelled. “Stop talking and focus on the lecture.”
“Yes, sir!” he yelled, lowering his head.
He just proved his point by making himself an example. Skylar is really something.
Because of him, I accidentally forgot about what was bothering me a second ago. During the second lecture, two boys came over to talk with Skylar.
“Skylar, what are you up to?”
“Me? Nothing much.”
“Are you studying? I rarely see you study and you still get good marks. How do you do that?”
“No, he’s obviously on his phone. Can’t you see that? There’s no way you’ll see Skylar studying. It’s impossible.” The other boy laughed.
“You are right. By the way, you are coming to see the game today, right? You promised you would come.”
“I did? I forgot all about it.”
“WHAT?” both of them yelled in unison cracking me into a laugh but I controlled myself.
“I’m joking! Of course, I would remember it,” he reassured them. “I was playing with you to see your reaction.”
“Don’t freak us out like this! And don’t lie with a straight face. It looks like truth coming from your mouth.”
“You are overreacting! Anyway, do you have anything else to say? The teacher is going to come any minute. Get out of the class before that teacher sees you.”
“What? Is it Miss. Pig’s class again?”
“Yes, so get out of here before she arrives.”
“Yeah, we are leaving. But, it seems you are getting along with someone lately. Is there something you are supposed to tell us?”
“Tell you what?” he asked quite puzzled.
“You know it! Don’t pretend!”
What are they trying to say? Don’t tell me they are talking about me. Obviously, it’s me. There isn’t anyone out here other than me and him.
I can’t believe they are trying to ship us like this. I don’t like this at all!
“I’m not pretending anything at all. And I hope you won’t conclude without finding out about the truth. It’s going to cause misunderstandings, you know?” Skylar replied.
“Huh? Misunderstandings?”
“Aileen and are just friends now, discussing studies. Don’t assume anything is going on between us,” he stated in a serious tone.
I was as much startled as them hearing his response. Did he just tell that blatantly to their face? I don’t believe it.
“And stop trying to make things uncomfortable for someone who already has it worse. None of the girls in our class like her. You know it, still you are trying to make them hate her even more by shipping us together. That’s really low, don’t you think?”
Is he really doing this because of me? I can’t believe my ears or eyes.
“Skylar, believe us, we weren’t doing this on purpose. We really thought that something was going on between you two because of how chummy you were during the class. We are really sorry for making things uncomfortable for you.”
“It’s okay, don’t apologize to me. Say sorry to her.”
“We are sorry, Aileen!” they both apologized together.
“It’s okay, I didn’t mind anything at all,” I replied, glancing behind them. “No need to apologize.”
Not when they have realized their mistake,
