“You here? Am I seeing it right?” Sarah asked, her brows frowning in confusion. “I thought you left already. Don’t tell me you are here to insult me again. If that’s the case hurry up and do it.”
“Why are you jumping to conclusions too soon?” I replied. “Chill, I didn’t come here to insult you.”
“Then, why are you here?”
“Thank you, Sarah, For saving me,” I replied, “I forgot to thank you then.”
She paused for a second before breaking into a smile. And it looked wonderful on her.
“Oh, you came to thank me. No wonder. I forgot that you are a noble person with ethics and morals. You’ll never forget the person who once helped you out.”
“You know me so well.”
“Of course, I do. You were my boyfriend remember? I know everything about you from your birthdate to your favorite sports, and clothing to occasions. And also, your allergies.”
“And yet things aren’t how they used to be anymore,” I added, looking her in the eyes. “Why did it all have to change? For what reason?”
Her face became saddened and she averted her gaze.
“Why are you bringing up the past again? It’s not benefitting any of us here, is it?”
“Hm, that’s true,” I sighed. “Sorry for bringing up the past again. Anyway, let’s call it a night. You must be heading home?”
“Uh, hm. Waiting for your dad to come. He’s just busy talking, I can’t catch a glimpse of him.”
“That sounds like him indeed. I’m leaving then. See you at the opening party. Goodnight.”
She nodded. “Yeah, see you. And looking forward to seeing your family too. Goodnight.”
I nodded back and turned away to leave.
“Bye, Dave!” she yelled behind me.
I couldn’t help but smile suddenly. I walked away without looking behind me.
Silly girl. She hasn’t changed a bit. On my way, I met Lancy., She bade me goodnight and went to search for Sarah.
When I got into my car, I checked the time on my watch. It was almost 10.
Guess, I’ll be home in thirty minutes. While driving through the dark night Aileen’s face appeared in my mind.
I bet she’s asleep already. Guess I just have to see her in the morning.
Out of nowhere, I recalled the conversation I had with Sarah in my office before going to the party.
Why did things have to end up like this? And she blamed me on me as well. Couldn’t you wait a little bit? If only you had some more patience and had believed in me then, things would’ve been different than how it is now.
But, we can’t change the past, unfortunately.
There’s only the future in front of us now and the current present.
And my future and present is…. now surrounding Aileen, who’s my mate. Sarah was my past. But, Emilia is my present. Still, my future is only with Aileen only.
Yes, that can’t change, ever!
I already lost Sarah before. I can’t afford to waste the opportunity to lose Aileen as well.
I won’t repeat my mistake twice.
Half an hour later, I was finally back home. When I drove inside through the gate and parked in front of the porch, I noticed a car in front of me.
Whose car is it again? I peeked through the window to see Aileen standing.
What is she doing here at this time, outside the home? I thought she went to bed. I have to see this through.
I went out of the car and then questioned her about it.
She couldn’t answer my questions and stood still dumbfounded.
I didn’t know how to control myself. I kept bashing at her imagining the worst. In the middle of my questioning, someone interrupts us.
“I think I can answer that question better than anyone.”
I looked behind us to see, Marshall approaching us from the direction of the car.
Was he in the car?
“A very late evening, Alpha,” he greeted, with a little bow. “I’m sorry we had to meet up like this. I was originally planning to leave but seeing you questioning her like this, I had to speak up.”
What’s he talking about?
“Was she with you in that car?” I asked.
He nodded. “Yes, she was. In fact”
“Wasn’t she supposed to be back home by the evening? What’s she doing with you at this late hour?” I asked. “W-what’s going on in here?”
“Let me explain here,” Marshall added.
“Let you explain what?” I retorted. “What is she doing with you in your car at this late hour, outside from home? Where have been the two of you at?”
Aileen lowered her eyes.
“At my house,” he replied.
“What? Youryour house?”
He nodded. “Yes, she was there all evening.”
“Doing what? And why did she go to your house anyway? Don’t tell me this is one of her old tricks which she used when she was angry at me? She went to your house because she was mad at me for not going to pick her up, right?”
“No, that’s not the matter at all,” he replied, looking a bit puzzled. “On our way from college, I asked her whether she’d like to come over to my house. And she agreed and then”
“Wait, wait, what? Did you ask her to come over to your house? Why would you even ask her that? You were only supposed to pick her up from college and drop her home. It was a simple task. Then, why didn’t you follow it thoroughly and go off the track?”
“When did you learn to disobey my orders like that, Marshall? Have you forgotten your duties?”
Marshall kept his head low and apologized. “I’m sorry Alpha. I didn’t mean to disobey your orders. It’s just, that she treated me the other day. And I wanted to repay her by treating her to something to eat. That’s why”
“If you had to eat, why did you bring her over to your house? There were plenty of places to eat. You could bring her to a restaurant, cafe, or even to my home. Why do you have to bring her to your home? What were you planning to do there? What was going on in your head? Not anything indecent, I hope?”
“Hey, relax a bit. It’s not like you to act like this,” Aaron said, trying to calm me down.
There’s no way for me to relax in this situation. Everything is out of control. These two were definitely up to something. Who knows what they did at his house? And at this time too?
“You, don’t have faith in your mate?” Aaron asked.
When did I say, I didn’t have? Of course, I do. But, I can’t believe in any men when it comes to my mate.
Marshall may have been my beta for a long time, but that doesn’t mean I believe in him blindly.
And when it comes to physical strength, he has way more advantages than her. She’ll have to give in if things don’t turn out her way.
“I brought her over to my house because”
“Enough of this!” Aileen yelled, grabbing Marshall by the hand. “I don’t think this is the right place to discuss anything here. Let’s go inside and talk.”
Marshall nodded in approval.
“But”
“And let someone cool off his head before coming inside,” she said, glancing in my direction with a cold stare.
“let’s go!” she dragged him out of my sight heading inside the house while I stood still watching them go.
She told me to cool off my head, didn’t she?
“Yes, she did,” Aaron replied. “Cool off your head before spouting any other nonsense.”
I should go and see what they were up to.
I ran after them inside the house.
Seeing us all Emilia who was sitting on the couch in the living room became surprised.
“Eh? Marshall, did you come to drop her off? That’s good,” she smiled. “Come, have a seat.”
“Uh, no, it’s”
“David? You are home as well? Don’t tell me all three of you came together?” she asked, getting up on her feet.
“Unfortunately, no. I came alone,” I replied, walking over to her side. “But, these two came together on their way from his home. Can you believe it?”
Aileen looked at me with a frown, and Marshall had no expression on his face.
“Yes, I know about it,” Emilia replied casually, shocking me.
“You knew about it? For real?” I mumbled.
She nodded, “Yeah, anything wrong with it?”
My eyes widened in utter shock. “You don’t find anything wrong with it? What’s going on with your head?”
“Uh, what’s wrong with two people hanging out at home? It’s not like it’s illegal or anything like that.”
“Yeah, it’s not illegal. But, you are ignoring the problem here completely.”
“And what’s the problem here?” she asked, looking at me.
“The problem is”
“Marshall, sit down first. We can talk after this,” Aileen replied.
“Uh, yeah. Please take a seat,” Emilia pleaded. “We’ll continue talking afterward.”
You lucky duck Marshall, you have my wife and daughter wrapped around your fingers, don’t you?
But, you can’t brainwash me. I know you are up to no good. That’s why you agreed to pick her up so easily when I asked you to.
I sat with Emilia beside me and he sat with Aileen. Four of us sat facing each other over the other ends of the table.
After a long silence, Emilia breaks the tension in the air.
“So…. what’s the problem in here? Can I know? All of you seem tensed for no reason.”
“The problem here is, that Aileen was hanging out in Marshall’s house for the entire evening without letting me know about it,” I stated, clearing off my throat. “And you seem to know about it but didn’t bother telling me about it.”
