Dave
As soon as Sarah left, I went over to Lancy’s side. “Lancy?”
“Uh, yes?”
“You don’t get paid enough to deal with her tantrums? Do you?”
She laughed it off, looking a bit troubled. “Well, at least I have a job to do. With my current skills and education, this is the only job I could find. I’m grateful to her, cause now I at least pay my bills without worries. So, I have to deal with this as it’s also a part of my job.”
So, just because of some money people like Sarah can treat people like shit however they want to? Who made this type of rule? It’s not fair at all.
“You know your worth is more than how much she pays you right? Don’t think of yourself so lowly. It’s not good.”
She smiled, looking up at me. “You think so highly of me, Alpha. I’m not one of your pack members. You don’t have to treat me so kindly.”
“What? That’s not the reason why I told you that!”
“I know. Even though you have a strong exterior from the outside, you are a kind soul within. You think highly of your pack members and treat them with respect. But still, thanks for telling me about my worth. Thanks to it, I feel better, and my self-image is restored.”
“You are welcome.”
“Well, if you pardon, I’d like to go and have something to drink. Do you need me for anything?”
“Uh, no, no. Get going.”
She bowed and left from there.
It’s hard to believe how much suffering people have to go through just because they don’t have enough money.
Aileen and Emilia must’ve felt the same when they were struggling as well.
My heart goes out to people like them. I hope someday, everyone’s sufferings will come to an end.
Cause everyone deserves a happy ending. Don’t you think so, Aaron?
“Hm…that’s true. Regardless of rank and gender, everyone deserves to be happy. And the way you think for others is so noble. And we also think alike. That’s why I like you so much.”
You do? Now, that’s so nice of you.
I should start heading towards the dinner table as well. Who knows when this party is going to end?
I just want to go home and see Aileen and head straight to bed.
She must’ve arrived at home already.
Before the dinner, everyone was talking with a drink in hand. I also talked with some people while having a drink.
But, the center of the attention in the whole hall was none other than Sarah. Everyone was just surrounding her like she was a butterfly in a field of flowers.
Even though the main people were me and dad only, she was stealing the spotlight from us.
Suckers! Why do men have to be a simp for her? What’s so good about her anyway?
They are acting as if they have seen a woman for the first time.
Don’t they have wives at home? I feel like recording everything and put it on display for their women and children to see.
“Aren’t you evil?” Aaron chuckled. “But, that sounds like a master plan. I’m in it.”
Now, that’s like it, buddy. We think alike.
During the conversation, I noticed that my dad wasn’t anywhere near Sarah either and he was at the other end talking with people.
They don’t look like a couple in any angle. Is Dad avoiding her or what?
“Look, she’s glancing in your direction now and often,” Aaron points out.
Who? Sarah?
“Yeah.”
Right after that, I noticed Sarah smiling and glancing in my direction.
What is trying to show by that? I don’t have any interest in her at all. There’s no way I’ll fall for her again.
I sipped on my drink and a few minutes later, Dad came and brought everyone to the dinner table.
We finally sat down to eat and I tried to sit between the investors so I wouldn’t have to sit next to Sarah.
“Oh, is this seat taken?”
I peered over my shoulder to see Sarah standing.
Why is she here?
“Uh, no, not at all,” the man beside me replied who was just about to sit next to me. “Please take it.”
“That’s so sweet. Thank you.” she took the sit and sat beside me.
I could see the devilish smile on her face very well.
She planned all of it, didn’t she? Oh well, I’m going to ignore you from now.
The servants came and started serving. The lady served a bowl of soup with chunks of meat in it, with a light broth it was easy to see through the liquid. It also had a pleasant smell.
But, it somehow made my skin a bit irritant and made my throat itchy at the same time.
I thought it was because of the heat. But the air conditioner was working fine.
What’s the problem with me?
Everyone started eating, so I just picked up my spoon, and right when I was about to bring it close to my mouth someone grabbed onto my hand.
I looked beside me to see Sarah. She held my hand.
“What’s going on here? Can’t I even eat in peace?” I retorted, in a light muffle as not to catch anyone’s eyes. “Stop with your silly jokes and let go of my hand.”
“You can’t eat this,” she warned, with the deadest expression on her face.
“What? The hell! Why is that?”
“Cause you can’t eat this food,” she replied, letting go of my hand. “Put down the spoon. You’ll kill yourself.”
“Kill myself? For eating food? You have to be ridiculous!”
“Let me handle this,” she said with a calm expression, turning to the lady who was serving a while ago. “Why are you serving him beef? He’s allergic to it!”
The lady’s face became pale the very second. She looked at me in a state of horror from where she stood.
Everyone’s attention at the table now turned to me the very second.
She ran over my side the very minute, “Are you allergic to it? I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware of that,” she apologized.
“Uh, it’s okay. Maybe I forgot to inform that. It’s not your fault.” I apologized back.
“No, it’s not!” Sarah stated. “Dear, you gave them the list of the people dining with us, right?” she asked Dad.
“Uh, yeah, I did.”
“Among that, you must’ve included if there’s any type of food they don’t like or can’t consume I guess?”
“Hm…. I don’t remember, but I did tell my secretary to send that type of a list to the hotel staff.”
“You made sure to do all that and forgot about the most important person on that list? Your son? What kind of a careless parent are you to do such thing? You know it very well, that he’s allergic to beef and clam and scallops right?”
Does she remember about my allergies so much well? Even after so much time? Then, she hasn’t forgotten about anything at all, has she?
Dad thought over it for a minute before answering, “Uh…. he was allergic to all that? How come I don’t remember about it?”
“Cause you forgot obviously, right Dave?” Sarah comments.
“Uh, yeah. I guess so. He’s pretty much forgetful about everything other than money and business.”
“You are making me sound like a bad dad in front of others,” Dad grunted. “Anyway, as that is my mistake, I’ll gladly take the whole blame on me. I’m really sorry for putting your life on risk because of my silly mistake. Please, forgive me if you can.”
The way he apologized so earnestly, I couldn’t stay angry at him. Even though, I wasn’t that angry in the first place.
And it’s all because how Sarah stopped me before the right time.
We may not be dating anymore, but seeing her compassion towards her ex-boyfriend who could’ve died just by drinking that soup is really something.
She’s not as bad as I’ve expected her to be. I shouldn’t think of her as evil.
“Well, let it pass. No one’s harmed and that’s all that matters,” I replied, clearing my throat.
“Now, that’s true.” Dad chuckled. “And it’s all thanks to Sarah, my dear wife. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it.”
“What? You are making me embarrassed. I only did what was right at that situation. That’s all. I’m not a hero or anything.”
“No, you are to us,” Dad replied. “Now, someone hurry up and put aside his plate. Then serve him fresh food and don’t make any mistake this time.”
“Y-yes sir,” the lady stuttered, bowing at me. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. You apologized already.”
She aside the plate, then cleaned the table. Then brought some shredded chicken decorated by fresh veggies and I began to eat with some expensive wine.
We talked some over dinner talking about the day of the grand opening and how my dad wants to make this company to reach greatest heights with all his might.
This might be the only topic he likes to talk about, money and power.
He even discussed about my achievements and how much I’ve worked to run the company that he had build even in his absence.
He never talks good about me unless it’s to impress others. The only type of people I hate in the world is who tries to be fake and dishonest.
But, that’s the majority of the people nowadays. And yet, no matter what happens, I’ll continue to be honest like I’ve always been.
When dinner finally wrapped up, I was ready to hit home.
But before that, I had one final task. To see Sarah.
I searched for her and finally saw her outside the entrance, talking with someone over the call.
I waited for her to finish before approaching.
When she did, I walked over to her side.
She turned around and saw me standing. “Hey.”
